President Obama took to the rostrum at State of the Union last night and called upon Congress to pass legislation to prevent Congressional Insider Trading. The notion is a rare instance of something that should rightly attract bipartisan support. Our Senator, Scott Brown, was the first member of Congress to author a comprehensive bill on the subject, and last night President Obama expressed his support for Brown's measure. After finishing his State of the Union Address, Obama expressed to Brown in the well of the House while on national television that he'd tell Harry Reid to "get it done".
Will the President and Majority Leader Reid make good on their promises of bipartisanship and support the Brown bill as promised? Will the press hold them to this commitment?
UPDATE Official Transcript:
U.S. SENATOR SCOTT BROWN: My insider trading bill is on Harry's [Majority Leader Harry Reid] desk right now. Tell him to get it out.
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: I'm going to tell him. I'm going to tell him to get it done. How's your daughter?
