This Week at Pioneer

Josh Archambault takes a look at the dizzying and expansive responsibilities of the  new mega agency, the Division of Health Care Cost and Quality, created by the House version of health care payment reform.
WBUR's round-up:

Massachusetts Moves Toward Health-Care Price Controls. Is America Next? Read Forbes' Avik Roy; cites Pioneer's Josh Archambault

Pioneer's new book The Great Experiment, received a glowing endorsement this week from former CEO of BIDMC, Paul Levy: "If you read only one book about state and federal health care policy, it should be The Great Experiment: The States, the Feds and Your Healthcare... by the Boston-based Pioneer Institute"

Some of you may have followed the chatter about the Obama campaign's composite character, "Julia" - Here's Heritage's version, with Pioneer's education report cited on slide 3:

Jamie Gass in the New Bedford Standard-Times: Thanks to Common Core national education standards, Massachusetts students are learning 60 percent less about the many great poets and literary figures who hail from the Bay State.

Read why Jim Stergios is not grateful about the much-heralded charter cap lift announced this week, and why Jim calls for charterizing the Lawrence School District NOW: "The state is paying for almost the entire $135 million (soon to be $150 million) school budget. Moving to the New Orleans solution, which has raised student scores and improved a number of school metrics, is a no-brainer."

Steve Poftak asks some good questions about housing authorities in light of recent abuses in Chelsea and Medford. For one, are so many entities really necessary?

What's Pioneer's position? (0.00 / 0)
Hey Josh Archambault, have you done any studies about the long-term consequences of allowing people to attempt same-sex conception? Or other methods of creating people besides joining the unmodified sperm of a man and the unmodified egg of a woman?

What does IVF currently cost us? How about fertility treatments in general? (I guess it'd be hard to get the total cost, including caring for low-birth weight babies, pregnancy care costs, etc, but surely the costs of IVF can be easily ferreted out)
