Five Things you Should Know Today June 27, 2012

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Wed Jun 27, 2012 at 06:46:34 AM EDT

As you get ready for hump-day, here are the five things you should know in Massachusetts politics today.

1. RMG News launches

Today, Red Mass Group starts a straight news project, RMG News. Starting today, a series of journalist interns will write non-opinion news articles under the username RMG News.  Our first intern is John McKenna, a student at Fordham University.  John Provided a biography to RMG:

I am a Brighton, MA native going to Fordham University in Bronx, NY. I started blogging with my own blog The Boston Conservative before moving on to Silver Underground for the summer of 2011. Currently I'm the editor-in-chief for The Fordham Gazette, the official blog of the Fordham College Republicans and also writes for Young Americans for Liberty and The College Conservative. I am currently pursuing a degree in Economics.

2.  Massachusetts Department of Education promulgates lax regulations regarding gender identity in sports.

Yesterday the Massachusetts Department of Primary and Secondary Education promulgated new rules regarding gender identity and interscholastic athletics.  Critics say the new rules are lax on what defines gender identity and are afraid the rules will allow anyone to try out for any team.  They point to stricter, NCAA rules which say you need to actually be undergoing hormone therapy or be post-operative.

3. Hooray for Devnswood

Pretty soon your best shot at seeing a movie star may be Tony's Pizza in Downtown Ayer.  The former Army Base, where Colin Powell was stationed when he met his wife, is set to become Tinseltown East.  Ground was broken, yesterday, on the multimillion dollar project.  There is no word on whether a rumored film starring Deval Patrick, "Nightmare on Evergreen Street", has been greenlit for filming.

4. House formal session - It's Electric

No that's not a wedding you year going on in the House Chamber today.  The "Electric Slide" is just the house taking up legislation that is supposed to help lower electric rates, but in reality is a green energy bonanza that outlaws further coal electricity generation.  According to the House calendar Health Care cost control may be coming out of conference committee as well.

5.  Hack awards today

Starting at 2:00 PM various managers from State Government, including Deval Patrick, will be handing out Performance Recognition Awards to deserving Payroll Patriots, in the Great Hall.

1. Great idea to have interns adding to the conversation in a 'non-opinion' way.  I look forward to hearing their take on things.  Can I continue to be completely biased though?

2. Massachusetts is just so creeeeeeppppy.  Boys=girls, white=indian, GOP=Racist.  Massachusetts is the most backward, illogical place in the world now....

3. The movie studio will probably have to close down as the state continues to relocate wild bears to the region.  Yesterday there was a brown bear spotted in neighboring Groton, Massachusetts.

4. Nothing the state does lowers costs.  If the state wants the cost of something lowered they should get away and let private enterprise get involved.

5. Amazing.  At a point when the state is losing population, jobs and hope the Governor and his minions step in to hand out awards for public union workers.  Please Deval - GO AWAY!!!!

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.
