Liberty Caucus releases video to dispel rumors they want to unbind delegates

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Tue Jul 17, 2012 at 07:55:45 AM EDT

The disenfranchised members of the Massachusetts Liberty Caucus have released a video to combat rumors that they want to unbind the delegates going to Tampa.  While there is a national law suit doing just that.  Massachusetts caucus members have stated again and again that they will follow the rules.  Don't take my word for it, listen to them.

Let's get one thing straight.... (0.00 / 0)
Had or if any of the delegates joined the national lawsuit to unbind the delegates, that WOULD justify thei decertification by the Romney Campaign.

That action would have been "just cause" and within the scope of power of the candidate, to decertify any delegate.

The MassGOP and the Romney campaign however do not have the right to make a delegate/ alternate delegate sign an affidavit to pledge an action in the future. In fact, it's illegal.

Somerville Tom, no one is asking you to be civil or like Evan Kenney. We are simply looking for the MassGOP and the Romney campaign to follow the rules and reinstate our rightful status as delegates and alternates.

It's either right or wrong.................. (0.00 / 0)
These delegates followe the ruls put worth by the State GOP-period. They did nothing wrong. he fact that the state GOP decides they want to change the rules after the fact of their massive losses shows just how desperate they are.

If they had brought out theri voters, no problem. But they didn't and were defeated by a superior effort. That effort should be applauded not surpressed.

This may be the last nail in the coffin of the MassGOP as the Zebra's stripes have not changed ....and never will.

I agree their effort should be applauded (0.00 / 0)
I don't know about the last nail in the coffin though. It seems to be a pretty resilient coffin with all those nails in it.
It might help bolster party participation if they stopped turning away enthusiastic newcomers. Especially when they reach out like they did in this video.

I have my forensic blogging team running facial recognition software on the punk ... I'll report my findings tomorrow.

Also - I think esteemed RMG blogger "red" is way too heavy handed with the rating feature on this site.  He zero'd me on 2 comments in the same thread.  That my friend, is known as the "double tap flap" it's like saying 'hey you are so lame that I'm going to take twice as much time out of my day to down rate you ... you should feel like an A-Hole right about now'

Looking Bad (0.00 / 0)
How bad will it look if the national committee refuses to seat the entire Mass delegation which is what it threatened to do back in 2000 if the state party did not subsequently get rid of rule 4.7?

This is what the credentials committee said in 2000:

Whereas the Republican National Convention's Committee on Credentials has had to repeatedly answer contests to delegates from Massachusetts because of their peculiar manner of selection that seems to promote cronyism and defeat democratic elections, the Committee on Credentials urges the Massachusetts State Committee to reconsider Rule 4.7 which allows the winning Presidential Candidate's State Committee to certify delegates and alternate delegates pledged to its candidate."

Ed,

We did attend the State Committee.  We weren't allowed to appeal to the members who voted to throw away the ballots of the registered republicans. You obviously have no problem with that.  You have made it quite clear that throwing away ballots and overturning elections, what Stalin's Russia did, is quite fine with you.

Let's welcome people who want to be involved in something they can believe in (5.00 / 2)
Thank God for people who care about this country, our economy and the Republican Party and who passionately want to be involved in something they can believe in.

Let's be the party of Lincoln, of Reagan and welcome them. Let's be that Republican Party. The MASSGOP made it's own rules. Broke their own rules.

i believe they never intended to count the provisional ballots and said as much. They bounced 17 delegates and then never intended to discuss the matter with our 80 state committee members at their June meeting. This is not fair to our state committee members who could have been blamed, like lambs to the slaughter. To their credit they have worked to inform RTC's and committee members. They are the ones extended the olive branch.

The legal counsel Vince DeVito ruled that the provisional ballots would not be counted. No reason was given. Nothing in writing. He tried to blame the RNC. Yet, the RNC has warned the MASSGOP since 2000 to stop letting campaigns pick delegates because it promotes "cronyism" Now the chosen ones have picked DeVito to nominate to the RNC convention Rules committee.  Isn't that like asking the wolf to guard the chickens?

Whether or not you, they, I, or others agree or disagree with Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, the MassGOP State Committee, the Liberty Caucus or anyone affiliated therewith the abuse you've launched into is absolutely uncalled for!

Yes, sometimes you try to be funny and occasionally I may even get a chuckle out of your attempts but in recent days over several posts you've engaged in conduct unbecoming.

Finally, or all the rancor and hard feelings that may currently exist...YOU'RE NOT HELPING.  The people you're attacking probably aren't very fond of me but dammit, you're wrong & someone needs to tell you to STOP!  It's not funny but rather rude, divisive, and simply wrong.

[ Parent ]
I'm with Mr. Radio (3.50 / 2)
Brock -

Mr. Radio is a very different political citizen than I, but I am with him on this as I think the Paul people are not sincere Republicans and do not deserve sincerity. (If they are working for an RTC for Republican candidates who are not Paul supporters two years from now, I will be wrong - but I am not worried about being wrong.)

However, you are my favorite member of the SC, and have been for a long time, though we have only spoken once in person (the Feb Growing Grassroots conference in Feb. 2011). I have always credited you for being a straight shooter and caring about what the uninformed masses (like myself) think - and for explaining the inner workings of the SC to us.

But where have you been on this awful episode? Yes, you have explained the actions of the allocation committee - which is helpful, and I am grateful.

But on this whole scandal... what did you think?  So Ron Paul's people put the word out months ago that the way to help Ron Paul (not the Republicans, but Ron Paul) is to get involved on the delegate process in lots of ways. People are told to establish or change party registration to Republican and try to become delegates so they can go to the convention and help the cause of Ron Paul - not the cause of the Republicans - but Ron Paul).

So some change party registration, get organized, and in the parts of the state where the party is not strong, they get elected, fair and square. The coup - for the glory of Ron Paul - is partially successful. This to me is outrageous. Someone becomes a Republican who has done nothing for the party before -  and immediately wants to represent the party and the nominee that he did not support? Wow. That takes gall.

But they get elected fair and square because the MassGOP is so pathetically weak that we can't even get delegates who support the guy who is not only the nominee but a former governor and the most well-known and important Massachusetts Republican ever. That is the MassGOP's fault.

Then, the party engages in a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff to get rid of these people. They, as I, must have thought it unacceptable for people who don't support the nominee to go to Tampa and embarrass us. They, like I, must have read the Ron Paul discussions on the Internet and said, "Holy !*&! - these people are planning a revolt."  It doesn't matter that the smiling people in the above video with the charming piano music might not have been on board with that. We didn't know that at the time, and we still don't know that now. (The video is great. It should have appeared months ago.)

But is there no way this could not have been better explained in public? Could Chairman Maginn, whom I like tremendously, not made a video explaining his concerns and why he acted as he did? Could you, who have always tried to be a link between the establishment and the unwashed masses, not have explained what was happening?

Where is the apology from the MassGOP for this whole fiasco? They could have said they were sorry that we were so poorly organized statewide that we were vulnerable to an invasion by people who put Ron Paul above the Republican party? (I know people who like Ron Paul a lot but put the party first. That isn't who ran for the delegate seats.)

I am with the party 100% that these people, who do not support Mitt Romney with an ounce of enthusiasm and have not proven themselves as Republicans, should not be representing us.

But could you  - and the others on the SC and above - not given front-line Republicans like me a little bit of an easier time defending you? It has been unnecessarily hard. You have fed the fears of the conspiracy theorists that dark forces and men with money are pulling the marionette strings in the MassGOP to stop the Paul people. Why didn't someone of principle just step before the microphone and talk about what happened?  Why did they just speak through committee action and affidavits? Why did it happen this way???!

[ Parent ]
The problem is "They" (0.00 / 0)
The "they" of the party (which never in my 25 years of involvement has included me)thought it unacceptable that pro-lifers be in the delegation to San Diego in '96 or that rank-and-filers (rather than McCain partisans who were, believe it or not, the Paulbots 12 years ago) should go to Philadelphia in 2000. If the relevant committees follow through with their threat of 2000 the whole delegation should be canceling their hotel reservations for Tampa.

[ Parent ]
Decency vs Agreement (0.00 / 0)
Ed, thank you for the kind words.  You & I aren't very far apart in our opinions but I simply couldn't condone the commentary of RRRR and yes indeed you are "a very different political citizen".  Personally attacking those who (may profoundly) disagree doesn't advance anything.

I've already waded into these matters far more than I probably should and certainly more than almost any other.  I don't intend to go any deeper into the fine details.

I understand the desire to reward party veterans who have been deep in the trenches for years & decades.  Hell, I didn't put my name into nomination or delegate 4 years ago because I considered myself too new to the State Committee.  This time, I thought that the time may be right.  That said, I cannot fault any group of any Republican perspective from maximizing their opportunity by strong organization, all as permitted by the rules.  Rather, it was impressive.  Kudos.

As RRRR was inappropriate I've seen plenty of other inappropriate things and some make RRRR look like a choir boy.  There's plenty of blame to go around.  I did think that the video in question was much more effective then other protest or appeal attempts. Passions have flared, and understandably so. Some actions have been beyond the pale, most have been reasonable. We all need to be guided with our minds and not our hearts, as hard as may be to do.  One had a philosophy of wide publicity versus a personal approach (even if I grant for the sake of discussion that it was inadequate) that attempted to deal with matters professionally and not publicly.  I prefer to minimize those instances and keep my gaze focused forward.  That future, hopefully, is ultimately more unified - at least in purpose if not in camaraderie.

I appreciate your recent defense, I even understand that in his own way RRRR meant well but the execution of that action was atrocious. You're asking for apologies and information over a "fiasco". Well, I don't think that you'll be satisfied.  Again, we have had two competing philosophies. Some people who preferred to keep matters between those who were impacted, and their representatives, & thus in the need to know and others who preferred to make a public view of it.  I'm not saying either is right or wrong, but there were two defend approaches.  I'll grant that perhaps one is more instantly and personally satisfying.

I'm not saying that things may not have been better handled by all parties, after all hindsight is 20/20 but there was a delegate selection process and is now at an end.  Four years from now we probably should take a very hard look at re-writing the rules to radically change how we select delegates.  Perhaps letting each presidential campaign have their prioritized list of would-be delegates is a better way, as other states do.  At the very least stitching up the holes and reinforcing the weak areas of the historically used rules is the very least that urgently needs to happen.  What must occur next time is an avoidance of what has transpired this year.

I may not always entirely agree but I do not reject members of the Liberty Caucus, Tea Part, MA-RA, or any other faction here in the Commonwealth.  Each has something valuable to contribute to the Massachusetts Republican Party.  Rather, as I've said repeatedly over the years, I'd rather build a viable - if not always perhaps comfortable - coalition to defeat the common enemy - and that is liberal Democratic policies and the politicians who would/continue to implement such disasters.

Even if members of the aforementioned don't return the gesture, it is incumbent upon us as Massachusetts GOP activists and party officials (even more so) to extend a welcoming, open hand of friendship.  We don't have to be best of friends but we cannot ridicule and heap cruelties upon those who should be our political brethren.

As I finish my coffee and my Cheerios, I'll simply conclude with what I believe is wise advice for those that publicly comment, be via blog or else: "but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man."

Corruption Has Been A Way of Life in the US for too long (0.00 / 0)
Talking about corruption...The financial markets have been totally corrupted - In the 80s the Saving & Loan bankers at least were imprisoned...It's become normal operating procedures - change the regulations, procedures and rules as you go along. The corporate cronies get away with it...So now the Massachusetts GOP is doing it. What don't you understand about the word corruption?
We're working with the Mass GOP. But don't pretend that breaking your own rules and contracts isn't corruption. If you can't abide by a contract or your word, we're just another banana republic. That has always been the thing that made us different from other nations. Granted there's always been abuse, but there just is no honor anymore!

Completely agree Strawberry (5.00 / 1)
I attend my local RTC but am registered independent despite pressure from my RTC to register R.  The posts here exemplify why I will not.  The MAGOP is a joke.

RRRR:  you comment on the 'snot nosed punk' playing in the sandbox and take every opportunity to insult him, and by association anyone who might agree with him, yet in doing so you display the maturity of someone much less capable that he.  Grow up.  Honestly, the crap you have posted here is why I don't bother with this site much.  You are extremely immature and not helping anyone.

But this type of divisiveness is representative of the party as a whole.  Instead of embracing those that agree on most issues, The Party has decided to shun the Paul folks, TEA party, etc.  This is why the GOP is getting it's a$$ handed to them; old school thinking and inability to change with the times.  There are alot of young people that are sick of the old D vs R game.  The R's missed a huge opportunity to work with these enthusiastic folks and instead just sticks to its old boys network.  BNC, you may not reject all the different 'factions' , but The Party has.

edfactor: your blind devotion to The Party actually makes me sick to my stomach.  You sound like a mindless drone accepting whatever The Party choses to feed you.  I'd like to remind you it is not who The Party choses, it is who the people chose.  Re-read your post from this perspective, it is really scary.  It is not about what RP has done for The Party, it is about the people he represents.  I am sorry to be insulting but you sound completely brainwashed.

For me this fiasco IS the final nail in the coffin.  I will never ever be a D, but this fiasco and the way The Party has acted has completely alienated me.  And I know I am not the only one.  Way to go GOP.  You and the media have forced this less than mediocre candidate on us.  The effect it has had will unfortunately be felt by other R candidate such as in the Senate.

My interest in the treatment of the LP delegates is what brought me back to this site.  Sorry, maybe this thread was a bad example and does not represent RMG as a whole, but what a bunch of idiots you look like.

I'm not involved with the MA GOP but if I was I'd tell this guy to get the hell out of my office!  I'd figure out his name and put him on my "10 Most Unwanted People" list and pass it around to every RTC in MA.

If these guys think that emailing Rachel Maddow and appearing on her show to call some members of the MA GOP "Corrupt" is helping the party ... then their help we can do without.

Quotation (0.00 / 0)
I should've noted that my final quote was from Mark 7:15.  Since I'm clarifying that I'll leave one more New Testament quote for adaptation to political consideration.

1 Corinthians 1:10-13:

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Now, this Catholic firmly & fully understand that the Republican Party isn't a church and certainly not God but I think that the lessons of division are still words of wisdom.  It's past time to say that we are of Ron Paul, even that we are of Mitt Romney.  Rather, we are all Republicans!  To mix Biblical metaphors and to cite a parable of Jesus Christ, let us not be like the son who always stayed with his father and was jealous of and angry with his brother, the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32).

What can I say, I didn't have time to look up Federalist #10 and James Madison's perils of faction.

MAGOP Screwed (5.00 / 1)
Republicans who were able to get their voters to the caucus sites, and win seats at the REPUBLICAN National Convention. Someday our party is going to realize that 30% of the other party can win every election, despite our party turning out 100%. I found out firsthand that the old guard didn't want anyone upsetting THEIR applecart when I tried to join/organize my RTC. It took me 2 months.
MAGOP also screwed itself. I am going to constantly remind everyone. I will do my damndest at the 2014 state convention to do that too.
2016: MAGOP needs to be totally revamped. All 80 incumbents need to be removed. Only this way can we possibly ensure that our party is composed of US. Sorry old guard, you screwed with the membership once too often.
