After seeing emails obtained by Red Mass Group, Wendy Murphy, the lawyer for Stan McGee's alleged victim, told the Cape Cod Times that McGee has violated the confidentiality agreement in a civil settlement. McGee allegedly performed oral sex on an unwilling 15 year old boy in a steam room in Florida. McGee was never charged, despite the top child law enforcement officer in Florida recommending that he be. He later settled a law suit that dragged on for two years with the boy in 2011.
"Stan did indicate to me that there was indeed a settlement, though he didn't say, and I didn't ask, how much money was paid," Schwartzman wrote. "He did say it was not a big number but that it made him sick to pay anything at all. He said that he was advised by counsel that it was in his interest to make a settlement so as to end the nightmare as expeditiously as possible."
But Wendy Murphy, an attorney for the boy's family, issued a statement Friday saying McGee had violated the terms of the settlement's confidentiality agreement and, without saying how much he paid, gave a pretty good indication it was more than six figures. "My clients were shocked to learn that Carl Stanley McGee not only violated the confidentiality agreement that he demanded, but also falsely reported that the amount he paid to resolve the suit was not substantial. Mr. McGee produced documents indicating that he had virtually no assets before agreeing to pay the victim a sum that for many people in this country would amount to more than 10 years worth of income," Murphy wrote in a prepared statement.
The median US wage for a single person in the US is around $27,000 and the Median family income is around $46,000. That means the settlement was somewhere between a quarter million and half a million dollars.
It will be interesting to see what Wendy Murphy and the boy's next move are. |
