Five Things you should know today, July 31, 2012

1. As the legislative session ends, look back 19 months to how it began.

As the legislative session ends and the threat of federal indictments again looms on the horizon.  It's fitting then to take yet another look at how the House of Representatives opened its session in January of 2011.  They opened the session with a tribute to three former indicted speakers. Here's the video:

2. Liz Warren is Capitalism's Savior

Elizabeth Warren, the savior of capitalism?  Don't believe it?  Just ask the mother of Occupy yourself, she'll tell you its so..

(via Boston Herald)

Elizabeth Warren's new claim that Wall Street execs are behind her because they believe she'll "save capitalism" had conservatives rolling in the aisles yesterday, saying the outlandish line is as bad as President Obama's "you didn't build that" gaffe.

The Democratic Senate challenger, already under fire for her own remark that "there is nobody in this country who got rich on his own," made her claim that she is a business champion in an interview with the National Journal published Sunday.

"Every now and again, I meet with someone who's been very successful on Wall Street, who says, 'I want to support your campaign because I believe you will save capitalism. I believe in capitalism, and I understand there have to be rules. And they have to be consistently enforced,' " Warren told the National Journal.

3. At 2:15 Deval Patrick joins Mayor Menino for a "Safe and Successful Youth" event in Roxbury, Will Stan McGee be there?

Today at 2:15 Deval Patrick brings his Safe and Successful Youth statewide tour to Roxbury.  He'll be meeting with Mayor "I hate Moist Chicken' Menino.   There is no word yet as to whether Deval Patrick's "close" associate, alleged child rapist, Stan McGee will be at the event.  It is also not known how many violent offenders out on early parole due to judicial discretion will be there.

4. Bills flying out of committee

Since the legislature only has less than 24 hours to be corrupt in their official actions of legislating for almost a whole six months, bills are flying out of conference committees to give them that chance.  Scheduled to be taken up today are Health Price controls, "economic development", among many others.  The legislature is proving you can cram 19 months into one day.

5. Last day of work before the indictments

Today is the legislature's last day of work before Carmen Ortiz gets busy.  As the clock strikes midnight the countdown clock to Ortiz and her rumored indictments of, as Paul Ware calls them "significant names" comes down.  Has anybody put the chances of a DeLeo indictment up on intrade.  I might need to get me some of that action?

OK...let Lizzy (0.00 / 0)
take it.

WALL STREET IS BEHIND LIZZY WARREN!!!

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

This is a better line for her (0.00 / 0)
This is actually a better tack for her to take, and what was missing from her and Obama's attack on the wealthy or the successful or those in business.

However it is amazing how tone-deaf she is, trotting out some hearsay quote from a wallstreeter on how great she is. So she is attacking the generally well-off, the local business owner, but some Wall Street guy is great for saying nice things to her.

She should be focusing on the economy and what is wrong with it, not her and Obama's view of capitalism and society.
