Five Things you should know today August 15, 2012

1. West Roxbury Patch highlights Ward 20 GOP

The background story to this election that has gone untold is what the Boston Republican City Committee is doing to help Scott Brown.  Chaired by Brad Williams with a field game run by Katie Regan, a West Rox native, the Boston GOP has quietly organized almost every ward.  In addition the committee is doing GOTV activity almost every day from East Boston to Allston, and Charlestown to Roxbury.  Patch.com took the time to talk with Regan:

Regan: I have been a registered Republican since I was 18 years old. I do not believe that is has ever been taboo to be a Massachusetts Republican, just rare.  Many people believe and support commonsense solutions, fiscal responsibility, low taxes, fewer regulations and strong work and family values.

Over the past 20 years the Massachusetts Republican Party has failed to run a grassroots effort to register voters and recruit strong Republican candidates to run for office thus giving voters a choice. During the same period of time the Massachusetts Democrats have been able to lock down a coordinated campaign strategy. By running together as a team despite political differences, both conservative and liberal Democrats have been able to coordinate and work together to help elect all candidates up and down the Democrat ticket.

As a result Massachusetts has become a one-party system with Democrats in power - how's that working out for ya? Not good.

With Regan and Williams at the helm, "the times, they are a changing."

2. Have you seen Bill Galvin's ad from Liz's daughter's lawsuit?

I'd show you the ad, but it seems the Prince of Darkness doesn't have a YouTube Channel.  But you've probably seen it by now on television.  The ad, which should just plainly tell people the date to register, is an advocacy ad.  Telling them why they should register. This is not something that should be done with tax-payer money.  It is the same as a city or town spending money on telling people whether or not to support an override.

3. Take your boat to work day

As many of you read this before heading out, please be safe this morning.  The National weather service has issued flash flood warnings and as this is being written, the skies sound ominous.  Take it safe on the way in folks.  We need you to door knock this weekend.

4. Erick Erickson takes Joe Biden to task

So... it looks like Andrew Breitbart was right last year when he told Red Mass Group that this election was going to be all about race baiting.  Joe Biden actually told people yesterday that Mitt Romney was going to enslave blacks again.  Yep, you read that right, he told a crowd that Mitt Romney was "gonna put you all in chains."  I'd rant on this but Erick Erickson at Red State did a much better job than I could.  Here is his rant.

It is remarkable that the party that thinks "states rights" is racist code thinks "put you back in chains" is hot and sexy talk. It is remarkable that the party that heard Sarah Palin had a political target list would think telling people the GOP will enslave them is okay. It is remarkable that the party that screams bloody murder when you say they are marxists is okay with Joe Biden claiming the GOP will put people back in chains. It is remarkable that the party that screams bloody murder the moment you mention a death panel has no problem saying the GOP wants to put you back in chains. In short, if you use Barack Obama's middle name, you are a racist. But if you race bait a crowd by telling them Mitt Romney will put them back in chains, Stephanie Cutter, the President's spokesgal is cool with that. She's also cool with telling people Mitt Romney killed a woman by giving her cancer and is perfectly cool with lying about her knowledge of Joe Soptic.

Actually, it's not really remarkable at all. Inciting racial animosity for political gain has been the Democratic playbook since the Democrats were, well, not to put too fine a point on it, putting black people in chains. But I'm sure we are just, again, taking the Democrats all out of context.

5. ICE arrrests 39 criminal illegal aliens

According to the State House News Service ICE has arrested 39 dangerous criminal illegal aliens recently in Greater Boston.

Federal immigration officers arrested 39 convicted criminal aliens around the Boston area following a targeted enforcement operation than spanned three days late last week, officials announced Tuesday. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, its Threats Against the Community operation netted 35 individuals with multiple criminal convictions including 20 with felony convictions on crimes such as assault, sexual assault, drunk driving and possessing and selling dangerous drugs. One of the individuals arrested was a convicted sex offender, according to ICE. The agency used the Revere Police Department as its field command center for the operation and arrests took place in Boston, Chelsea, East Boston, Everett, Lynn, New Bedford, Revere, Somerville and Woburn. According to ICE, all 39 individuals were administratively arrested for being in violation of federal immigration laws. Thirty-six are being held in ICE custody pending immigration removal proceedings or removal from the U.S. and two individuals are in custody of the state with an "immigration detailer hold." One of the individuals arrested was released on an order of supervision. - M. Norton/SHNS
