Can I Live -

Thirty nine years ago today I was born.  Less than a year after the Supreme Court told my mother she could legally end my life, if she chose.  She didn't make that choice.  Nick Cannon's mother didn't either.  He's made this video about the experience.

Share it.

Women were making choices about whether to have an abortion... (0.00 / 0)
...long before the Supreme Court said they could.  Before Roe v Wade, hospitals devoted entire floors to woman who made the choice to have abortions via botched back-alley means.  No, your mother, my mother and Nick Cannon's mother did not make this choice.  But what if they did?  Not only would we not be here, our mothers could very well have died making that choice, or if you have younger siblings, they may not be here also because back-alley abortions often left woman sterile.

Oh, BTW, happy birthday.

Entire floors devoted to... (0.00 / 0)
I've heard this before about the vast thousands of woman that died from botched abortions, but it's my understanding that those numbers were great exaggeration.  1972 was the year before Roe:
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/previe...

Compared with 1972, the annual number of deaths associated with known legal induced abortion in the late 1990s has decreased by approximately 70% (Table 19). In 1972, 24 women died from causes known to be associated with legal abortions and 39 died as a result of known illegal abortions. In 1999, four died as a result of legal induced abortion and none died as a result of illegal induced abortion. Numbers of legal, induced abortion-related deaths for 1998 and 1999, identified for all 52 reporting areas, are similar to those reported over the previous 18 years. However, national case-fatality rates for 1998 and 1999 cannot be calculated because a substantial number of abortions occurred in four nonreporting states, and the total number of abortions (the denominator) is unknown.

Need another video (0.00 / 0)
Agree, this is a powerful video.  Now we need another one from the happy, much-wanted children, many of them twins, who were born because of in-vitro fertilization.
