Conscience Cause Senate Voter Guide released for MA

by: CVarley

Tue Oct 23, 2012 at 18:17:26 PM EDT

( - promoted by Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno)

Conscience Cause, a non-partisan grassroots organization comprised of leaders of various faiths, today released voter guides for 18 U.S. Senate races to remind people of faith of the Obama Administration's requirement that religious employers provide no-cost contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization to their employees, even when those so-called health benefits contradict that religion's fundamental beliefs.

With the statement "Vote your conscience on Tuesday, November 6th," the guides spotlight the Obama Administration's disregard for religious freedom and highlight whether Senate candidates support or oppose the mandate.

"The threat the mandate poses to religious freedom needs to be discussed, and discussed at church while we still have churches to attend," said Christen Varley, executive director of Conscience Cause. "As voters make up their minds about who to support at the polls, our guides can be shared with family, friends and fellow parishioners - with all to whom religious freedom is important."

While Obama's Health and Human Services Department has offered an exemption to houses of worship, the controversial mandate still is required of religious hospitals, universities and charitable institutions as well as individual employers.

Conscience Cause is collecting signatures on a petition addressed to Congress seeking a legislative fix. There is widespread, bipartisan support for amending the mandate in the U.S. House of Representatives. The guides specifically target seats in the U.S. Senate, where a February vote to amend the mandate failed.

Mary Matalin, a political advisor and CNN Political Contributor, is on the board of Conscience Cause. She has been an outspoken critic of the mandate. "America doesn't have a birth control problem. It has a government out of control problem," said Matalin.
