MassGOP Chairman Campaign Update from Kirsten Hughes

by: BNCordeiro

Fri Jan 11, 2013 at 16:38:52 PM EST

( - promoted by Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno)

I discovered this email from Kirsten Hughes to all the State Committee members.  As usual, it has been reproduced here as exactly as possible.  Likewise, in the interest of full disclosure I am an endorser of Kirsten Hughes for MassGOP Chairman.

Dear State Committee Members,

I hope you all had a happy New Year and a very happy holiday season. The last few weeks have certainly been exciting - John Philip, the newest member of the Hughes family and a future Party activist arrived in late December. Thanks to everyone for all of your prayers and well wishes.

Running for Party Chair has been a goal of mine since I worked in the field for the MassGOP and after winning my own race for elected office. The decision to throw my hat in the ring was not an easy one, but has proven to be the right one. Over the past few weeks, sharing my vision for our Party and hearing from so many of you about your own experiences and ideas on how we can improve technology, communication and resource allocation has focused my vision for the future. I look forward to further discussing with each of you what we need to do to put us in the best position to add more seats in the Legislature and grow our farm team in preparation for the 2014 election cycle.

Starting with an event tonight in Region 2, I will be hosting regional meetings with state committee members focused on the future of our Party and how we can work together to grow our grassroots and voter base. Your leadership is the foundation for our Party's future success and the next Chair should be a reflection of your dedication and passion. I believe I'm the candidate who can best deliver your message to the voters and am grateful to have earned the endorsements of so many state committee members, Party leaders, and Senator Scott Brown. Just this morning I was honored to receive the endorsements of Minority Leader Brad Jones and 10 other state representatives! Please take a moment to visit my campaign website http://www.hughesforchair.com/endorsements.php and add your name to our growing list of supporters.

Talking to fellow Republicans across Massachusetts, there is growing concern that our recent electoral setback may result in a retreat to a narrow and exclusionary set of guiding principles.  As a member of our Party's farm team, in my capacity as city councilor in the Democratic stronghold of Quincy, I can tell you that exclusion is not a recipe for success. If elected Chair, from day one until Election Day in 2014, my singular focus will be to support each and every Republican candidate running for office.

We have all experienced the predictable byproducts of a one-party state: corruption, waste, and abuse of power. However, our resolve is not weakened by the challenges before us.  Our determination only grows stronger to bring real accountability to all levels of government. If I am fortunate to earn your vote and lead our Party, we will overcome these roadblocks by working together to put our common goal above all else - electing more Republicans to town committees, city councils, to Beacon Hill and Capitol Hill.

I am committed to earning your vote and leading the charge to a successful Election Day in November 2014. Working together, I know we will succeed.

Respectfully,

Kirsten

I'm confused Brock (5.00 / 1)
On her website now, Kirsten lists only 6 state Reps elected in 2010. Rick Green is currently endorsed by 10 Reps or former Reps elected in 2010. On her website, Ms. Hughes states the following:

Legislative Election Experience for the MassGOP:
As Political Field Director for the MassGOP in 2010, Kirsten coordinated dozens of legislative campaigns for the most successful election cycle for the MassGOP in decades - doubling the number of GOP State Representatives.

Why is it that the people she claims she helped coordinate their campaigns for are endorsing her opponent by almost a 2-1 ratio?

Wouldn't these people be the ones leading the charge to see her elected instead of overwhelmingly endorsing Mr. Green?

What does this say about Ms. Hughes and is this cause for concern over her abilities?

"Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others."
-Gabriel Gomez

Sounds like she just wants an AFC and an NFC (0.00 / 0)
She seems to think the only goal is to have a balanced legislature, to reduce corruption and waste that come from having one dominant party. But she doesn't seem to think it means anything to be a Republican. Or probably she just thinks being Republican means being against taxes and for businesses. But it is more than that.  Did she see Lincoln?

I don't know what she means about exclusion, but I can guess it means excluding pro-gay marriage and pro-choice candidates. Again, I point out that we must oppose same-sex conception on the same basis we opposed slavery, it is a materialist view of people as property and believes eugenics instead of equality, dignity and liberty. And we should be pro-life, for the same reason. But we can support Civil Unions and support gay people, and we can oppose Personhood Amendments and not freak out women.

It feels like a contest! (0.00 / 0)
I am glad to see this message and that Ms. Hughes has updated her website some more. I was worried that this wouldn't be a well-fought contest that would be good for the party.

Let the deliberations and debate continue!

Have to agree with Ed. (5.00 / 2)
No matter the outcome, the fact that this is contest and no one is just going to walk in to this, is good thing.

This should be a message to both candidates, whoever should win this thing will need to reach out to the "losing side" (for lack of the better term).  Each of these candidates have something to bring to the table, as does Hope and as did the D&D team.

The message is that we can no longer concentrate all the power in the Chair, all the power in the hands of people that think a certain way, all the power in select few.

I will admit that Kirsten is an effective fundraiser and is energetic. She should play a role in the party if Rick becomes chair.  Likewise Kirsten needs to utilize Rick's skills should she win.

At the end of the, we are having a healthy competition among family members. And a healthy conversation about what our approach moving forward should be. In that process, we are also having sometimes heated family argument. It's sort of like Thanksgiving, when at least one relative says the wrong thing and it blows up into a food fight. Thus far, although some things have been ugly, it's nothing we can't fix.

Wholeheartedly agree with John (5.00 / 1)
Regardless of the outcome, our party will be in good hands. Each candidate has great strengths they will bring to the table and I am confident we will have a strong leader for the party regardless of the outcome.
