"Voter-gate" Unified Post.

by: Paul R. Ferro

Wed Jan 30, 2013 at 16:27:54 PM EST

There are several different posts branching off of my post last evening.  I created this post as a one-stop shop for all your "Voter-Gate" needs.

You can read my original post, "Kirsten Hughes 11+ Year Record of Non-Voting.' at this link.  It was originally posted at 8:18PM EST on 1/29.

At the publishers request, I edited the post at 10:00PM to clarify the specific accusation, that being that RMG was unable to find any evidence of Kirsten Hughes voting in the state of Massachusetts between her registration to vote in 1998, and 2009.  The post text has not been edited since 10:00PM last evening.

This morning at 7:00AM, after extensive back & forth between he and I via email, the RMG publisher posted an article sharing information provided to RMG by "The Hughes Campaign".  In a promotion comment, I outlined several reasons why I didn't accept the evidence presented at face value.  I have posted those questions in a comment in that diary you can read here.

That post has been removed from the front page by the author as it has been superseded by new information.

Finally, "The Other RMG Editor" Elizabeth Mahoney who has publicly Endorsed Kirsten Hughes has a fabulous, extensive post on the voter registration records of both candidates for Chair.  Well worth a read, but summary,  Mr. Green, as previously disclosed on RMG failed to vote in 2008, earliest registration in 2003.  Ms. Hughes, as stated in the original post last night, failed to vote in Massachusetts between 1998-2009, voting instead in New York City in 2004, and 2008.

Each of the posts are worth a read on their own, but I would be remiss if I did not point out that the the original post, and its charge of non-Massachusetts voting in a 11-year period by candidate Hughes, has been verified by one of Ms. Hughes own supporters.  Food for thought.

Lets face it (5.00 / 2)
they're both new to the MassGOP. So am I. I've been active since 2008. Does that make me unqualified to lead the Reading RTC? It's about the ideas and plans for moving the organization forward that count. Top-down? Bottom-up? I know where I stand. There are so many people "behind" each of these candidates that none of us really knows what either one will end up doing. Each side has an agenda, proposed and hidden. Whichever one wins, I hope it coincides with mine. Otherwise I fear my RTC will be left to its own devices. Again. And we'll muddle along as best we can. Because it's all we can do until the State Party gets its act together. And that's frustrating. Really, really frustrating.

G.O.P. Growth. Opportunity. Prosperity. For all Americans.

How much $$ has Rick rappaport Green given Ferro? (0.00 / 1)
According to OCPF the Green clan has forked over $13,500 to Ferro's Marlboro RTC. Apparently it was money well spent!

Keep plugging away Paul, may be Rick Rappaport Green will put you back on his website

Zero. Not one red cent. Nice try. (0.00 / 0)

Awesome... (5.00 / 1)
While I have no doubt these are two accomplished people, but it is obvious that neither has the skill set to match the level of political sophistication of the Democratic State Party has.  John Walsh spent years learning his craft.  Awesome.

This is fun... (5.00 / 2)
Hey Paul, it might be a little more advanced that 101 politics, but not much.  You learned the hard way that before you use a piece of oppo on your opponent, vet your own candidate on the same issue.  After doing virtually no homework, you splashed on the front page that Kristen Hughes didn't vote in Massachusetts for 10 years.   When the dust settled, Hughes was voting in New York most of the time and it is learned that you guy has been a registered Republican for ONLY TWO YEARS.

The only word to describe this is: Amateur.

God forgive me..... (0.00 / 0)
I just gave Simple two 5's for his insightful comments....

I hate to say that it now appears that both of these candidates, as well as almost all the Republican party are playing wiffle ball while the Democrats are playing hardball....

I should have sought the candidacy myself...

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

um, has Rick Green ever claimed he was a lifelong Republican? (0.00 / 0)
He said multiple times "I got involved in politics when Scott Brown ran for U.S. Senate in 2009."

He's not claiming he has "ten years" of activism in Massachusetts.  There's no letter from Kerry Heally and Ron Kaufman claiming Rick "has lived and breathed Republican Politics in this State".  They said that about Kristen Hughes.  Did they miss that whole "Didn't vote in this state until 2009?"  That's not a whole lotta "living" or "breathing" politics in this state.

Both are correct! (4.00 / 1)
Paul -

Your article was correct about Hughes. But when I read that a lifelong resident of Quincy didn't vote for ten years, I immediately thought, "She didn't vote? Really?" I thought, "This is Jon Golnik all over again." I didn't say, "Maybe she was registered and voted in a different state!" I am sure that nobody thought that. We all thought she didn't vote.

Now, you are also correct that statements by her supporters sure don't make it sound like she was registered and voted somewhere else for several years. I don't know why they said those things or in what context. That's their fault and not yours.

However, Mr. Malarkey is correct about how this worked out for Mr. Green. Lots of people dutifully vote without "getting involved in politics." Lots of Republicans, too. I voted every cycle for 20 years before "getting involved" in politics. So that statement about Rick Green is misleading.

For someone to run for state committee of a party after only having been a Republican for a matter of months must be some sort of unique occurrence, eh? Seriously, Paul, how many SC members have we had that weren't long-time party members? Did the Republicans who voted for him in 2012 know this? No freaking way. They probably heard the same line about "getting involved" and just assumed he was a Republican beforehand.

Now we know that while Scott Brown supposedly changed how Green felt about Republican politics in the fall of 2009, that he still remained unenrolled until 2011. Now we are poised to make a guy chairman of the party who has incredibly limited party history. In fact, if you told me that someone in any state in America became leader of a political party with less than two years of being registered in that party - I would find that a laughable idea. So Mr. Malarkey is correct - Hughes comes across as the victim here and suddenly Rick Green is discovered to be a newcomer.  Wow.

Don't get me wrong, perhaps someone new to the party is exactly what we need. We certainly don't spend enough time figuring out how to talk to unenrolled voters, and if Mr. Green can get whatever sparked him to register Republican to spark others - he will be the best thing that ever happened to us.

But I think the voter record issue ended up being a winner for Ms. Hughes, which I wouldn't have imagined yesterday. :-)

Fine ignore my point... (0.00 / 1)
Which has nothing to do with what Green claimed or didn't claim.  The point was you screwed up.  You attacked Hughes on an issue that exposed a weakness with your candidate.  Your attempt to deflect is pathetic.

You Should Be Ignored (0.00 / 0)
You are the least credible, not believable person in the blogosphere! And you know yourself it's true.

Do you even read my post? (0.00 / 0)
I did a post on there being no record of Ms. Hughes voting in MA from 98 (when she registered) to 2009.  100% factually accurate, confirmed by Elizabeth.

Lets compare apples to apples.  Green registered in 2003 and voted in every election, save one ( which I have heard he was out of state, and didn't request an absentee ballot in time).

Hughes, whom surrogates have said "lives and breaths politics in this state" has demonstrably NOT done that.  She registered and didn't vote at all for 6 years.

Rick Green hasn't tried to exaggerate his resume, political or otherwise.  She has.  She couldn't just run on her actual résumé!  No, she had to fluff it up.  She doesn't work in politics in MA, she LIVES and BREATHS politics in this state!  Except for, ya know, actually voting here.

She not Just a City Coucilor.  She the First Woman City Councilor!  Ever!  In the history of Quincy!  Except, well, she's not.

What has Rick Green said?  I got involved  because of Scott Brown in 2009.  Here's what I've done in politics since.  X, Y, Z, etc.  Before that, I started a business in my garage that now has sales of $50 million, and employes 100 in MA.  Simple.

He's not fluffing his résumé. She has.  And she got caught.

You still keep digging... (0.00 / 0)
This is not about what Hughes or Green say or said.  This is about YOU Paul.  YOU did a small amount of research and without doing proper diligence, attempted to expose Hughes as a fraud.  YOU misfired...turns out YOU didn't do enough research on Hughes.  With that misfire, others did their own research and found out that your guy--running for state party chair--has been a Republican for only a couple of years.  Sure Green never said he was a long time R.  But because of YOUR misfire, you shined a light on Green's less than stellar history as a Republican and other people wrote about it.

Keep spinning Paul (she said she lives and breaths politics in this state...but, but, but she once lived out of state!!!).  It confirms my original charge I made last night: You're an amateur.  If Rick Green loses tonight (and it does appear to be down to one or two votes) I'm sure he'll have enough class to thank you and tell you not to worry about things.  But in your feeble attempt to throw mud has back fired and if Green loses, your actions will be to blame.  But given that your still spinning about how "right" you are, it is obvious that you can't accept the reality that a Green lose will be YOUR FAULT.  Typical of many of the conservatives I see around here.  You bitch about people not taking "personal responsibility", yet you are unable to take responsibility for your own actions.  Instead, you whine.

I'm new too (0.00 / 0)
I too just "enrolled" Republican in 2008, from unenrolled aka independent. That does not mean I am no less an activist now, than any other person.
I decided it was time to work within the party to make the changes I felt would be needed to fight the Regressives.
I am supporting Rick Green because he shares my values. Values that the GOP does not seem to share with me.

This kind of crap is exactly why the GOP is at 11% (0.00 / 0)
I will admit that I do not frequent any Dem blogs (Bluemassgroup, etc...), but I am betting this kind of internecine bickering about who is going to lead the party doesn't happen.

I am not a "party activist".  I am not a political operative.  I'm just a guy who wants to see the GOP do better.  I don't have all the answers, I may be wrong in a lot of what I think.

What I DO know, for certain, is that this kind of garbage will keep the GOP at 11% and falling for as long as it goes on.

The squabbling I have been reading here lately; from who said what to whom about web-sites, social media, marketing the GOP, etc... to who will be the head of the MAGOP has made me want to puke.

It makes me sick to my stomach that one of the voices of reason in all this seems to be the resident liar/jackass Simple J. Malarkey.  If HE can figure it out, and the rest of you can't, we are DOOMED.

"Gee, I had no idea..."  Simple J. (Festus) Malarkey
