Thats the plan.  BUT, his last round with Warren is going to make that very, very difficult.  He didn't exactly run a competent, statesmen like campaign.

This does give him time to repair his image.  Hopefully he uses it wisely, and comes out swinging (and with better advisers).

what the hell was last night for? 41 people voted to give him what he wanted and the next day, he says he's not running? WTF? I bet if there was anyone who voted for Hughes out of fear Brown wouldn't run could have their votes back now.

Last night was our quarterly meeting of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee and its main purpose was to elect our next Chairman.  The MassGOP is not, should not, and must never be a cult of personality surrounding any one individual - candidate or elected official - the Massachusetts Republican Party is not defined by former US Senator Scott P. Brown and last night's election was some backdoor coronation.

No one should have voted for Kirsten Hughes out of any fear of Scott Brown's candidacy or for any other reason.  I certainly did not and I voted, as is well known here on RMG, for Kirsten Hughes.  Did I respect Scott Brown's endorsement of Kirsten?  Absolutely!  I greatly value Scott's opinion.  Similarly, did I respect Jim Rappaport's endorsement of Rick?  Absolutely!  I greatly value Jim's opinion.  I've supported candidacies of both gentlemen - who knows, I may do likewise in the future - but ultimately I base anything on anything other than my own judgment and fully formed conscience.  I don't always agree with Scott on every issue, and I do weigh his opinions strongly, but I didn't - and I don't - take any marching orders from our friend in Wrentham.

During the period between the two rounds of voting last night I had a good conversation with a guest who was in obvious support of Rick Green.  As I told that gentleman, my support, endorsement, and vote for Kirsten Hughes was never in any way contingent or predicated upon any action or activity of her former boss, Senator Scott Brown.  My vote was based solely upon my personal history with Kirsten rooted in my first hand knowledge of her experience and qualifications. Similarly, my vote shouldn't have been interpreted as a negative reflection upon Rick Green, but I digress.

I was one of a great many taken by surprise this afternoon and I'm still a little shocked.  However, I absolutely do not regret my vote and as such I wouldn't change my vote from last night. I voted last night for Kirsten Hughes for MassGOP Chair and not some proxy for Senator Brown.  

I look forward for the next two years of the administration Chairman Kirsten Hughes and Deputy Chairman Rick Green.

Scott probably got a job in the dreaded private sector.

It's kinda like what I was saying - we put all our hopes and dreams into a single candidate that will let us down.  Not because they aren't good enough, but because we expect too much.  

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

Brown Has Screwed the Republican Party, Period!! (5.00 / 2)

Why did Scott Brown wait so long to announce he is not running? In doing so he has just screwed the Republicans in the State. It now leaves any Republican who might run just 30 days to get the 10,000 signatures need to get on the ballot. He could have announced this couple of weeks ago ending all the speculation and given someone else more time on getting the signatures and to put together an organization.
If Mr. Brown is considering a run for the Governor's Office he should forget it. He turned his back on the Republicans in the last race by refusing to say in any of his ads he was the Republican candidate. He is now quoted as saying he is upset on what people think of the Republican Party. Well, Mr. Brown when Edith Bunker Warren made the statement during one of the debates it would be real bad for the Republicans to take over the Senate, Brown choked and refused to stand up to this kind of Democratic Party garbage.  Mr. Brown turned his back on the Conservatives in the state, both Republican and Independents. The vote total showed this in his loss when the Independents went for Edith Bunker Warren, and Brown ran on, he was an Independent candidate.
We have some outstanding Republicans who hopefully will come forward and run as the Republican Candidate for the US Senate and defeat the left wing socialists from Malden or the I'm Mr. Union man from Boston.

1) GOP in the Senate who gave Kerry a pass to be SoS.
2) State Committee members voting for Kirstin thinking they were securing a Brown run.
3) As you mentioned, other candidates.

I wonder if the ill will generated will hurt him if he runs for governor.

Honestly, I'm starting to think his hearts not in it anymore.  His last run wasn't anything like his first, was it?  It felt like he was out of steam, and taking the old, easy street method of running a campaign.  

Not inside the campaign so I can't say, but that's the way it felt on the outside to me.  It was more Coakley, less Truck.  

I don't know, but the more I think of it the more I'm getting mad at this and the way Nov played out.  Maybe he's just not the up to be the reformer I thought he could be.

Brown really hurt Kirsten (0.00 / 0)

First of all congratulations to Kirsten our new Chair, congratulations and thanks to Rick for running.
Thanks also to Bob Maginn. I had the pleasure of meeting him for first time Thursday. I told him that I didn't start out as a fan, but he won me over.  So while I was a critic of Kirsten's and Rick supporter, I honestly hope that I can say the same thing to Kirsten.

Now Senator emeritus Brown royally screwed Kirsten by pulling the stunt he pulled. Last Sunday he told State Committee people on the North Shore he wouldn't run if Kirsten didn't win. Twice in the Herald this past week we read that Brown would not run if Kirsten didn't win. Once from minority leader Jones and once as "sources."

Then on the day after Kirsten is elected Brown announces he's not running. Boy isn't that a great way for Kirsten to have to start off her tenure.  Were I her, I'd be ready to string Honorable Senator Emeritus up by the thumbs. For one thing it's going to give conspiracy theorists (of which I'm not one) all kinds of fodder. That's just a cloud she doesn't need to start under. Secondly she now has to get someone, who will be supported by the base, who is credible as a candidate, and who can gather the needed signatures in 26 days.  

If the party tries to recycle old news or people who endorsed Obama in the past, it's done for. So she's in a horrible situation, not to mention that the people on the S.C. that voted for Kirsten out of fear that Brown wouldn't run, are now ripped. And yes there are some.
It's really not fair. They shouldn't have voted for that reason. But life and politics aren't fair.

The good news is that every crisis is an opportunity. She has an opportunity here to show us what she can do. AND we need to support her in finding good candidate that meets the criteria. If she succeeds we succeed. That needs to be the attitude we ALL MUST move forward with.

I happen to think the nominee for the Dems is going to be Lynch. I think Brown knew that and he knew he couldn't beat him. Lynch claims to be pro-life. He sure as hell isn't. Brown to his credit has a better record on the issue. In fact, for someone who says he's pro-choice, Brown has a great record on the issue. The man held up a military appropriations bill because it allowed military women to pay for the own abortions in military hospitals. Lynch votes pro-life when it doesn't make a difference. But the electorate doesn't know that. Hence the Reagan democrats will stay home, the conservative independents with vote for Lynch, and some Republicans will too, especially if we try out-flank him on the left with someone who is very socially liberal.

So Scott Brown found yet another way to shaft the his fellow Republicans.  If the convention were held today, I don't know that he could get 15% of the delegates to get on ballot for Governor. That might change if he starts doing the right thing, like campaigning his @$$ off for all the candidates in the up coming election. But if the base was pissed at him before, now he's got the base and half the establishment pissed at him.  

Kirsten didn't need this, we didn't need this. He should have opted out month ago and given people chance to get their act together in order to run. He still could have supported Kirsten. In fact that might have made it easier for her to get elected in the first place.
