Gabriel Gomez's Victory Speech

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Tue Apr 30, 2013 at 21:44:00 PM EDT

The following is Gabriel Gomez's victory speech as prepared for delivery.

"Gracias a todos por estar aqui conmigo esta noche.

Just a few moments ago I received calls from Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Winslow. I congratulated them on a spirited campaign, and they both pledged their support.

I'd like to apologize in advance for not having the time to thank everyone individually.

I do want to point out 5 people very quickly, these are the people who have made it possible for me to run for the Senate.  My wife Sarah, my kids, Olivia, Zander, Antonia, and Mad Max. Thank you all for bearing with me and for your incredible support.

I want to thank one other group of people tonight without whom I could not have won - we have had such tremendous support from military veterans across the Commonwealth.  I'm humbled to have their support, as well as the unwavering support from many of my Navy SEAL buddies across the country.

Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno :: Gabriel Gomez's Victory Speech
I'll be brief here tonight; I just have a few things to say.  First, let me take you back in time for a moment....

The year was 1976.  37 years ago.  Gerald Ford was President.  The internet did not yet exist.

8 track players were big.  Boston's first album had just come out.  The first Rocky movie debuted in theaters.

The median price of new homes was 44 thousand dollars.   Our national debt, which today is over 16 Trillion, was not even 1 Trillion. Al Gore had not yet invented the internet.

It was a lifetime ago... I was playing little league baseball. ...it was when Ed Markey first got elected to Congress.

Einstein famously said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Congress has enough politicians.  If we keep sending politicians to Washington we will keep getting the same results.

If you are looking for a rigid partisan, I'm not your guy

If you are looking for a person who will take orders from party leaders, I'm not your guy

If you are looking for someone who refuses to work with the other party, I'm not your guy

If you are looking for someone who will participate in driving our national debt higher, I'm not your guy

If you are looking for an experienced slick talking politician, I'm DEFINITELY not your guy.

But...

if you are looking for a person that will reach across party lines...I'd be honored to have your support.

If you are looking for a person who will put principle ahead of politics...join our campaign.

If you are looking for a person who believes we can turn this country around and grow our economy...it's go time.

If you are looking for a person who believes congress should not get paid if they can't pass a budget...come join with us

If you believe we need term limits for politicians...come on board.

If you are looking for an independent voice, a completely new kind of Republican, take a look at our campaign. I'd be honored to have your support

Let me close with this.

My parents emigrated from Colombia, the year before I was born.  They came in hot pursuit of freedom and the American Dream, and they caught it.

I was raised in a typical middle class family in a small town.  My folks told me that in America, you can do what you put your mind to.

I have been tremendously blessed.  From a kid who didn't know English until he went to school, I've earned everything in my life: From earning my Navy Pilot Wings, to earning my Navy SEAL trident, to earning my way to Harvard Business School and earning a successful career in the private sector.

This election is about the future and not about the past.

But the simple truth is this - I'm running because I'm concerned that the dream my parents came here for will not be available to my kids, and your kids. And that's why it's time that we the people take matters into our own hands.

I need to say one more thing, I want to take a minute to express my appreciation for all those brave Americans who put their lives on the line to defend our freedom.  From the police officers, to the firefighters, to the intelligence community, to the FBI, and countless others...they work hard and they don't ask for much.  And to our men and women in uniform ...these are the people who make it possible for you and me to enjoy our freedoms...these are the people who allow us to live free....these are the people who know that freedom isn't free.  I will do my all to represent them in the United States Senate.

I will approach this job with a military man's discipline, a father's sensitivity and a businessman's experience.

I look forward to meeting you on the trail, I will earn each vote and I will always fight for you.

Thank you and may God Bless you all.

Muchas Gracias a todos y que dios vaya contigo."

Pretty solid speech (0.00 / 0)
But he'll need more than that. The Dem primary map shows our path to victory. Worcester County, Norfolk County, Bristol County, and the Merrimack Valley.

If Gomez can break into cities like Taunton, Quincy, and Lowell then it's very possible but I guess we'll see.

Scott Brown did it in 2010 and I'd be surprised if Markey fairs as well when actually facing an opponent. Hit him hard on being a hyper-partisan career politician.

With certainty, our next Senator supported Obama... (5.00 / 1)
This line is classic:

But...

if you are looking for a person that will reach across party lines...I'd be honored to have your support.

So in the section to describe what he is (after going through what he isn't), his first message is about reaching across the aisle. That really helped Romney and Brown.

It just doesn't work in elections!  The establishment got this one totally wrong. It is unfortunate.

If the choice is between Obama Supporter A, and Obama Supporter B - my guess is people will go with the devil they know...

Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom.

Can we fact check this?
