Bummer..Breaking News

by: Purple Mass Group

Thu Jul 02, 2009 at 12:38:50 PM EDT

(The Hacks are talking over the corner office. Also @massdems have been talking a lot about the Patrick Murray administration lately........... - promoted by EaBo Clipper)

Patrick's chief of staff to step down
Doug Rubin, Governor Deval Patrick's chief of staff, is stepping down. He will be replaced by Arthur Bernard, a top Patrick aide who served as chief of staff to former Senate President Robert Travaglini.

From Boston.com

The rats are leaving the (sinking) ship.

Would anyone be shocked if we saw Doug Rubin working for Cahill sometime down the road ?  Or is is that just me engaging in wild speculation again.

I missed this little nugget (0.00 / 0)
I skimmed over this part when I read the article

Rubin, who has been rumored to be leaving for months, said he is resigning now because the "agenda that the governor ran on has been successful." He cited three major reform initiatives -- the transportation, pension and ethics bills -- that have all recently been signed into law.

I can think of alot of words to describe the evaluation of Patrick's platform vs his results...successful is not on the list.

he is resigning now because the "agenda that the governor ran on has been successful." (5.00 / 3)
Outstanding!  Will he leave now?  Since his agenda is completed!

Let's get him the name of some nice portrait painters....

in that Disneyland state of mind called Liberalism/Progressive could THIS statement be made.

"agenda that the governor ran on has been successful."

REALLY!!???????????
How'd that property tax reduction thing work out??
Peachy!! huh?

Walt Disney (0.00 / 0)
I must object to your phrase "Disneyland state of mind called Liberalism/Progressive...."

Walt Disney was a conservative Republican!

YES (0.00 / 0)
Walt may have been a conservative, but that wonderful park he created was based on PURE FANTASY.....lol

Walt is rolling in his grave seeing that Liberals have based policy on his cotton candy booth.

Not exactly (0.00 / 0)
Here is Walt Disney's dedication speech for the grand-opening of Disneyland on July 17, 1955:

"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here, age relives fond memories of the past... and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." - Walt Disney

Walt was indeed conservative.  Read up on his activities in regards to Communists in Hollywood, Nikita Khruschev, and Lyndon Johnson.

Personally, Walt's original plans for E.P.C.O.T. (the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) were one of a conservative visionary, imho.

Here is a 56 second clip of that day in July.  I was going to post a shorter, 27 second clip, that was just Walt & his speech but well... you may notice a very familar conservative Republican face that ended up to be perhaps our greatest president of the 20th century.  Yes, Ronald Reagan covered the grand-opening of Disneyland on July 17, 1955.

I wonder what old Walt would have thought of this ? (0.00 / 0)
Disney adds robotic Obama to attraction

Odd timing

Just fine (0.00 / 0)
I doubt that Walt Disney would have had much of a problem with adding presidents, even if they are Barack Obama (who I do suspect that Uncle Walt would've objected to greatly).

The Hall of Presidents was based upon Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (Walt's favorite president) which was created for the 1964 World's Faire.

Walt had a tremendous urge to "plus" his attractions.  Adding every president, even those he may have disagreed with ideologically, is an example of "plussing" Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Furthermore, considering Walt was a pioneer of audioanimatronics and since President Obama's AA is one of the most advanced humanoid AA's ever made... I suspect that Mr. Disney would have been rather pleased.  Indeed, the soon-to-be-open version of the Hall of Presidents features speeches by George Washington & Abraham Lincoln.  Even with a liberal Democrat in office, my bet is that Walt Disney would be pleased.

Over on BMG (3.00 / 1)
Rubin got a B+ grade form one blogger citing the Marian Walsh caper as the only negative. That's like saying the 85 year old that just ran over the 5 yr old child as she was crossing the street was a good driver but for one accident.

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

Winston Churchill

Wow B+...they're nuts (0.00 / 0)
Only negative was Marion Walsh?  They must be suffering selective memory loss, or haven't been living in the same state the rest of us have.

Here's what I come up with the top of my head:

  • No property relief
  • Cars for welfare recipients
  • Raises taxes and fees across the board
  • Cut local aid
  • Failed to freeze wages and hiring
  • Hired his neighbors and friends at 6 figures
  • Caved to Unions on Police details
  • Left the state when important votes were being taken, and takes his state police detail with him to the Bahamas.
  • Had a press secretary for his wife (who works in the private sector),
  • According to small government's published info before question one, grew the state payroll by 6k jobs since assuming office (I can't vouch for that number)
  • Proposed everything from taxing soda to a "Big Brother" mileage device in inspection stickers.
  • Carbon tax for Massport
  • BioFuel mandate
  • Didn't care Aunt Zetuni was living in public housing in S Boston (not my problem)
  • Watched 3 Speakers of the House get indicted and was "Troubled"
  • Exhalted reform bills that are little more than window dressing
  • Is pushing a 3 Million dollar patronage scheme to address the counterfeit cigarette tax stamp problem that does not exist
  • Put in 70 million dollars into the budget for services for people (who through no fault of their of course) find themselves without proper documentation to establish they are citizens (i.e. over stay their visa and work permits)
  • Never once held Beacon Hill's feet to the fire on any major issue

B+ ?  They must be grading on a curve...the same one that has Jimmy Carter starting at A-.  If this guy was supposed to be doing damage control for the Patrick admin, he failed miserably.  B+...Ziooooks (apologies for the Scooby Doo reference)

You forgot a couple things.... (0.00 / 0)
- Denied a vote on the gay marriage issue
- Never got his 1,000 police officers
- Didn't bring change we could believe in.
- Didn't change the 'Big Dig' culture on Beacon Hill
- Never created transparency in government.

To name a few.....

[ Parent ]
True (0.00 / 0)
That is just what I could come with off the top of my head without the aid of Google.  But thanks for the additions.

B+, yup "Mission Accomplished" is the best summary.

Now you'll excuse myself whilst I take a shower to wash the "ick" off.

Anybody else want to add to the list?
