D'ohBama don't need no stinkin' Constitution (0.00 / 0)

U.S. Constitution

Article 2 - The Executive Branch Section 2 - Civilian Power Over Military, Cabinet, Pardon Power, Appointments

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

Even Robert Byrd raised the BS flag on the D'ohBama Czarmania.

You don't get the government you want, you get the government you deserve

ok (0.00 / 0)
So who is going to push the issue when it says?

whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law

That's sounds generic enough that it might pass the sniff test

Not that I'm in favor of it, and certainly not this degree. It sounds like potential for a bunch of loose cannons, but haven't other US Presidents appointed czars before?  Didn't Reagan have a "drug czar" and Bush a "war czar"?  I didn't hear any complaints then.

As I said I'm not advocating for him (God please not that) but if this were a legit "cause of action" I would think it would happened long before BHO even showed on the scene.

I will say, I don't remember any advice and consent of the Senate (or anyone else for that matter)

Not that generic (0.00 / 0)
Since none of these czars were established by law.  This is just D'ohBama's attempt to circumvent the legislative branch and consolidate power in the executive branch.

Any of the duties these czars may be performing could be carried out  by numerous cabinet secretaries who have been appointed with the advice and consent of the Senate. That is of course, if D'ohBama would actually nominate people to these positions who could actually pas a friendly Senatorial sniff test.  There are dozens of unfilled positions at the under secretary and other lower cabinet levels that D'ohBama simply hasn't filled.  As a result a number of departments are undermanned.

You don't get the government you want, you get the government you deserve

Hey I'm with you (0.00 / 0)
This is just a way to have some not be accountable to anyone and be able to assert executive privilege.  All it does is add opacity to the administration.

As much as I agree....who is going to push the issue?  Doesn't seem to be getting traction with anyone (other than Byrd, and he's on his last legs).  It may be a point for the midterm elections, but no one will push the issue anytime soon.

Questions for the left: (5.00 / 1)
If there are no WMD's, why does your President need a WMD czar?

What would you do if Bush or any Republican actually created a "Faith-based czar?"

"Victory is Mine!" - Stewart Gilligan Griffin.

Are we still looking for WMD? (0.00 / 0)
I thought Olberman said Cheney had them in his basement?

Seriously good questions though....seems a bit hypocritical.

1. There are no WMDs in Iraq. Key little prepositional phrase there. I have yet to hear that the thousand-missile arsenals of the major nuclear powers, along with a bunch of smaller ones here and there, are entirely fictional.

2. Be just as annoyed as I am right now. It's a bad idea.

No disagreement here on either point (0.00 / 0)
The comment I'm sure was facetious....but to the original question... why do we need czars?

Don't we have, CIA, NIA, NSA, DOJ, State Department, an entire diplomatic core, DOD, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, Joint chiefs of staff, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Gaurd, Peace Corps, a hundred of congressional committees, and a President (and Jimmy Carter of course) to deal with WMD's ?
Why do we need a this czar or any of the others?

Seems to add opacity to the administration that claimed a new era of transparency.  Not often I agree with Robert Byrd, but he has a point.  And pointing to the failings or shortcomings of other president(s) doesn't make it somehow less troubling.

Everyone on the left is hailing the President with accolades, but when you look at the actual nuts and bolts of his foreign policy, it's 90% of what Bush did everyone screamed about.  In fact other that being much more visible and have a much different domestic economic policy I don't see a whole lot of difference.

Never agreed with the concept of czars even when other presidents have done it.  There is plenty of room to appoint or designate existing personnel with advice and consent of congress.

The Hill

Misspellings continued to plague the Obama administration on Thursday, after two more releases containing errors were sent to reporters in the last 24 hours.

After misspelling the president's name as "Barak Obama" yesterday on an official document sent to reporters, the General Services Administration messed up another message when announcing it had awarded an $18 million contract to redesign the website keeping track of spent stimulus dollars.

"Recvoery.gov Version 2.0 $18 Million Contract Awarded," the release's subject line read. ("Recovery" was spelled correctly in the body of the email.)

The White House also sent out a release containing a typo in its joint statement from White House and the spokesman for U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown about the leader between Obama and the British PM today.

"The Prime Minister wlecomed the President's plans for a nuclear security conference in 2010," the sentence read.

Ummm.... (0.00 / 0)
how about the fact that they have a contract for $18 MILLION DOLLARS to redesign a website????????????

My girl does exactly that for a prominent university on a budget that is less than one percent of $18 million.

The beauty of big government (0.00 / 0)
It always 10, 15, 20 times more expensive than it needs to be.  We usually end up with some small segment of folks working, and 4 or 5 supervisors and "approvers" for the process.  It's maddening.

That how we ended up paying $500 for a screwdriver or toilet seat a few years.

Add all those people, levels of red-tape and associated bureaucracy and price goes up rapidly.  Usually takes ten times longer to get anything meaningful done too.
