We are going to have a Republican Primary for Governor!!!!!

by: Vote3rdpartynow

Wed Jul 08, 2009 at 14:50:31 PM EDT

( - promoted by DD4RP)

"Baker vs Mihos"

I am so happy right now I could cry.

When was the last time we had a GOP primary for the Governor's office?

The state GOP will be on television and radio and in the newspapers and all over the place.  We will get to have the party platform discussed in an open forum with an audience and reporters.  There will be new and exciting things to blog about each and every day.  Quick, pinch me, I think I am dreaming.....

I honestly don't care who wins this thing as either Mihos or Baker would be head and shoulders above the misfit we have as Governor today.

Note: Christy and Charlie - play fair and no bashing the other guy.  A professional, fair, and orderly Republican primary could be the single largest contribution either of you could make to the Republican Party in your lifetimes.  If done right I predict the comeback of the state GOP.  This will also be a wonderful opportunity for Chairperson Jennifer Nassour to be a showpiece for the state GOP.

This is an opportunity that money can't buy.  This is it folks - the stars have aligned and the Gods have breathed good fortune upon us.  This is our moment......

Red Pill Politics - Dr. Gerry Dembrowski (Constitution Party candidate for gov.)
Posted Sunday April 19, 2009 at 1:32 am by Dave Kopacz (district 1)

This week I interview Dr. Gerry Dembrowski, Constitution Party candidate for Governor of Massachusetts. Dr. Dembrowski is a native of the Commonwealth and a practicing doctor for 11 years. We touched on health care, the economy, the general healt of politics and the "Big Dig" fleecing of the taxpayers of Massachusetts.

I saw him once. (0.00 / 0)
It is my understanding (from speaking to a person with him when he spoke) that the Doctor had registered as a Republican in early June, and had been registered with the Constitution Party (the one Pat Buchanan founded in 2000 when he left the GOP over the platform?).Much of his support comes from his 'former fellow' Constitution Party members.

I met him... (4.00 / 1)
...at the State Committee meeting in January, and he spoke to the Mass. Republican Assembly membership meeting late last month, at both of which he said he's running as a Republican.

Now, that doesn't exclude him from running as a Constitution Party Candidate, but frankly, if the Constitution Party wanted to be serious, they should run a candidate in a state wide race without a Republican (I'm sure there will be one) to gain "Major Party" status for 2012, and try to unify the 1-5K Hard Right voters in the state into a "Conservative" Party.

Other than that, Dembroski is probably a non-entity in this race.

Brokton Dave,............ (0.00 / 0)
It's up to us to make the press pay attention to the primary.  We have to think positive about this.  Certainly the GOP has had its fair share of trouble over the years, but right now things are in our favor.  We have 3 good candidates for Governor.  The people are hungry for 'real' change and the elected Democrat politicians have butchered the economy.

Let's seize the moment.....

...should run as an Independent.

If he runs as a Republican, I won't vote for him because that's not what he is.

Been there done that (0.00 / 0)
Isn't that what ushered in Deval as Gov because Christy peeled votes away from Healy?

If you took all the Mihos votes (0.00 / 0)
and gave them to Healey she still wouldn't have won.

If you count the number of times Mihos took the heat off Patrick (0.00 / 0)
by constantly attacking Healey in debates and doing very little against Deval, one can argue he helped elect Deval. You are right, you can combine his votes with her and it wasn't enough.  But Mihos took focus away every time Healey tried to zero on Deval, his issues and background.

I think Mihos should have had the guts to run as a Republican in 2006 and run in a primary against Healey. He chose to skip by that and did more damage than good to the Party.  Now he want us to accept him back with arms open? Not me!

If by some strange alignment of the planets and stars he should beat Baker in the primary, I will enjoy doing what he did to us, and that is go Independent and support Cahill.

[ Parent ]
I get that (0.00 / 0)
I understand the angst....I felt it myself during that painful race that saw the current apologist elevated to the corner office.  I stewed for months and still cringe every time I hear Deval's  voice.  And yes, there is some part of me that hold's Christy accountable for that.

But I'm not prepared to shoot myself in the foot to exercise some form of political justice when the stakes are this high.  That election is over and a new one is coming.  The damage is done and cannot be undone, so I must move on.  If Mihos wins the primary I'll support him.

What you do is of course a matter for you to decide...there's alot of daily stuff that will happen between now and then so the best I can suggest is to keep an open mind.

Last - there has been some mitigation! (0.00 / 0)
I also thought he should have run in a primary and told him so to his face at the time (and I DID think he'd get his 15%, but I can see why he did not - it wasn't a paranoid fantasy).

That said - and I say it here because I havn't seen it mentioned - at the last SC meting he announced that he would take NO money from MA GOP, and said they should dedicate ALL their fundraising to Lege and other state-wide offices.

He also wrote a check and retired all the MA GOP debt (Which Nassour had brought down considerably via hard work, but still...).

He's trying to give MA GOP a clean slate for 2010, and remedy some damage.  Let's let him and Baker square off and use that clean slate to choose a nominee.

(OR are we going to have a re-play of all the people who sat on their hands and refused to work for Healey because she beat Jim Rappaport?)

Yr. Obedient Servant, Peter Porcupine, Republican

[ Parent ]
Wow...retired debt with no strings! (0.00 / 0)
I have to admit, it says alot for him to retire the MA GOP debt (no strings attached??)...BEFORE a primary.

He's not gonna get that money back if he loses.  I don't know how much it was, and I'm sure it didn't break him, but the symbolism should be recognized.

It may not be enough for some people to completely forgive, but I would hope it makes a dent.

Marc

I give Christy a lot of credit (0.00 / 0)
He's done his due dilligence in mending bridges and truly wish him the absolute best in his run.

I'm leaning Baker, but regardless we all need to give Christy some credit for what he's done in the past couple years in helping the party and in committing to running. A primary is going to be an amazing thing for the party, both candidates deserve our support and respect!

[ Parent ]
Did he actually? (0.00 / 0)
Did Mihos actually do that?  I remember the comment at the State Committee meeting but I hadn't heard or read that he actually had done so.  I haven't exactly called HQ to verify.  Honestly, I thought perhaps he may have had a slip of the tongue in the heat of the moment.

If Christy did indeed do as claimed...then THANK YOU!

If not, well... here's hoping!  :)

[ Parent ]
Christy Mihos did NOT retire MassGOP Debt!!! (0.00 / 0)
In an effort to be entirely clear & precise I emailed MassGOP Finance Director Lyndsay Jones about the matter of Christy Mihos supposedly retiring the remaining $10,000 or so debt owed by the MassGOP.

I received an email just a couple of minute ago noting that this is not the case.  NO such check from Christy Mihos has been received by the Massachusetts Republican Party.

Now, perhaps Christy intends to send the check.  Perhaps the check is in the mail.  However, as of earlier this evening the MassGOP has not received such a check.

[ Parent ]
No, Muffy screwed that campaign up herself. (0.00 / 0)
What was the first thing she did?  Went negative.  Going negative is the last thing you do.  The highlight of her campaign was that "Inmates for Deval" stunt.  Not unlike the "Billionaires for Bush" stunt from the other side.  So what was the end result? Polls (such as the Suffolk poll) indicating that the voters agreed with her stances on the issues but that they were still going to vote for Patrick.  She didn't establish herself as a credible candidate until it was too late.

Bottom line: She didn't differentiate herself from her boss, Mitt, and Mitt PO'd a lot of people with his national Republican posturing in an attempt to get votes for president.  All Mitt did was bash the Commonwealth in an attempt to suck up to the SoCons; he may have had some valid points but the voters don't want to hear that.  Then when Kerry Healey decides to lead off with a boilerplate campaign straight out of the RNC playbook, it was all over.

I voted for Christy while campaigning for Republican state representative candidates, not necessarily because I agreed with his positions, but because Kerry Healey was an atrocious campaigner.

Garylake, you are one of my favorite bloggers here..... (5.00 / 1)
but right now the GOP needs to drive by looking through the windshield, not the rear view mirror.  Forgive Christy for his past indiscretions.  Like many of us he was searching for the truth, and a party aligned with that truth.  He has found it, and returned to the GOP to run for Governor.  If you don't like him then vote against him.  But remember this - now is when we need to unite.  Now is when we lead.  It is easy to lead when things are good, but only the Republicans can lead when things are bad.  We have 3 good candidates ready to take on the mini Obama.  Let's embrace the opportunity and make the most of it....

I wasn't suggesting (0.00 / 0)
He shouldn't run...oh no not at all, I was suggesting he shouldn't run as an independent as he did before, and divide a finite number of voters that share his views.  By all means, I'd love to have him run as a Republican against Baker and whoever else chooses to run in the primary.  People outside these circles are not very familiar with Baker.....a primary would be a great avenue to get his name and face out.

The response was because someone said they wouldn't vote for him is he ran as a republican, which is of course their choice.  "The been there done that" was referring to him running as an.  I just thought it was poor timing and not in the best interest of the GOP at the time.  It's not that I don't like him, I just didn't like what he did at the time.  But that is the past, and I wouldn't want to see it repeated.

I've heard Christy speak numerous times....I like his message and welcome a real GOP primary for change.  Truthfully I know more about Christy than I do Baker or Dembroski (sp?).

Follow me on twitter @garyrlake

[ Parent ]
Why do you say that? (0.00 / 0)
Geo - please elaborate as to why Christy 'isn't' a Republican.

Yr. Obedient Servant, Peter Porcupine, Republican

[ Parent ]
Mihos was a Republican (5.00 / 1)
...who threw a tantrum and left the party to run for Governor as an Independent.

It was a selfish, vindictive act intended to harm the legitimate Republican candidate. And it worked.

I don't buy the argument regarding the combined votes of Healey and Mihos, because it can't factor in intangibles such as: what might have been the outcome had he thrown his support to, and campaigned for his party's nominee, instead of playing the spoiler in a calculated ploy to give himself the opportunity to return four years hence?

It is obvious to me from his past candidacy, that for Mihos, it's all about Mihos.

[ Parent ]
So he just up and left after losing the primary to Healey? (0.00 / 0)
That's terrible.  What prevents him from doing it again?

[ Parent ]
There was no primary (0.00 / 0)
I've seen it mentioned a few different times, but let's clarify.  There was NO PRIMARY in 2006.

Mihos left the party under the same conditions that Cahill is leaving the Dems.  Mihos claimed he was going to be shut out of the convention, and wouldn't get the 15% because Healy people controlled the process.

This is the large part of Cahill's argument.  He is convinced that the Patrick people will find a way to ensure he doesn't get 15%, which means he wouldn't be on the ballot.

If there had been a primary, he wouldn't have been able to switch after losing.

Marc

Come on Patrick..... (0.00 / 0)
Right now you need to decide what side of the fence your on.
Christy has given us cause and time to reflect.  But, the state GOP is faced with the biggest opportunity in a lifetime.  We have 3 candidates for Governor and any one of them could win.  Everyone blogging here has had a chance to speak their unhappiness with the party - but now is the time to lead.  You are not doing any good being indifferent.

Patrick, support your GOP candidate with all the energy and passion you have.  But let the others support theirs.

Think about this - one day very soon we will get to say that we helped stage the greatest political comeback in history.  We got a 'Red' Governor elected in the 'blue-est' of blue states.

This will be the biggest election in the last 25 years in Massachusetts.  Which side of the fence are you on?

It's more important that he be present to create a party primary and force public discussion of the issues and the Republican Party platform.  Vote against him for all I care.  Be passionate about it as well.  But encourage his running and let the Democrat majority know that we have something to believe in.  The state GOP is back........

Let the DEMS kick the crap out each other.  We don't need the distraction and drama.  Cahill and Patrick have a very contentious relationship (haven't even spoken to each other in months).  Let them spend their time and money duking it out in the press.

Michelle McPhee supposedly has some big scoop involving either Cahill or Patrick (or both) coming out with a reporter in the Herald tomorrow.  I didn't hear any of the details but I'm waiting with baited breath.  Anyone else catch any of the details on 96.9 tonight?

a couple of things (0.00 / 0)
First off, I wouldn't necessarily mind a slugfest primary. as long as both sides can act like adults afterwards and support whomever the candidate may be, then it should be encouraged.

Second, I'll ask my friend Rich about Dr. Dembrowski. Rich is the Chairman of the Constitution Party. I do think that if we have a statewide position in which we run no candidates, that we should support the CP candidate over any Dem, Libertarian, etc.

Mihos vs Baker - keep it REAL on the issues please (5.00 / 1)
I - for one - am looking forward to a lively Primary next year.  I respect BOTH Christy Mihos and Charlie Baker and look forward to the debate between these two titans.

Both bring real-world experience to the office of Governor and I am proud to share the Republican Party with both men.  Christy, I know personally, Charlie - I only know from what I have read...this is a positive uplifting time to be Republican, let's not squander the opportunity to win back the corner office.  Either man will be a huge improvement over what we have there now!!!

Thank you to both Christy Mihos and Charlie Baker for offering themselves up in this race.
