Brownsberger Proposes Grad Tax

by: Garrett Quinn

Fri Jul 24, 2009 at 11:53:52 AM EDT

According to State House News, Rep. William Brownsberger (D-Belmont) has proposed a bill that will create a graduated income tax in the Commonwealth. It will raise the tax rate to an outrageous 7.5% for the "wealthiest" Massachusetts residents. Anyone who makes over $140,000 will be hit hard with the new tax rate and those who make under $20,000 will see an increase in their exemption.

This has been tried several times in the past and has always failed. Let's hope this stupid idea fails again.

According to State House News several Democrats are planning on a fall listening tour around the state to discuss changes to the tax code.

A proposal to create representation without taxation.

Just what beacon hill needs, yet another mechanism to tweak in the tax policy.

Should we just start waving to the affluent as the head out Massachusetts?  The state appears to be doing everything short of "Get the hell out!"
