US Senate hopeful and Congressman Stephen Lynch (D, MA) has been referred to as a "conservative" Democrat by many people. But what does this really mean? To be as objective as I could I did a little blogging "legwork" to get his rankings from various groups. In my estimation Stephen Lynch isn't really a conservative. He's just more conservative than the other 9 members of the Massachusetts delegation. You can decide for yourself.
On the plus side, Lynch did vote against H.R. 1424. This was the famous bank bailout bill that created TARP. http://clerk.house.gov/evs/200...
American Conservative Union: 15.7% lifetime , 8% in 2008. He is by far the most "conservative" of the Massachusetts delegation, but Delahunt had a 2008 rating of 10%. While Lynch may appear conservative when being compared to Barney Frank, he is actually less conservative than many other Democrats including Harry Reid at 18.96%. http://www.acuratings.org/2008...
Planned Parenthood: 20% Lifetime, 43% in 2008. This issue is probably where Lynch gets his reputation as a "conservative" most. An interesting thing about the way planned parenthood does it's ratings. Only if you agree with their entire agenda with a 100% rating will they call you "Pro-choice." If you agree with them 99% of the time your record is "mixed." The same logic does not apply on the other end of the scale. If you support them 49% of them time you are labelled as "Anti-Choice." This is an important lesson to Republicans. Unless you support spending federal money on abortions in foreign countries THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU! 99% is not good enough. You are not "pro-choice." http://www.ppaction.org/ppvote...
