How Card escapes the association with Bush is beyond me. Follow me on twitter @garyrlake
Second, Brown's rationale for endorsing Andy is: Andy has the "contacts" with "lobbyists and media members" to "bring home the bacon"? Are you kidding? Andy must have loved that....
Just awful. Dems will be saving that footage.
Scott admits he has met and "had talks throughout" with Card -- and Card's position has never changed from what he said last night (essentially the same as what he said in his original interview last week). So everyone I've spoken with is officially very confused about why Scott goes on Howie Carr and says he is "90% in", starts signing up volunteers on Facebook and all but saying he's "in" to everyone he knows, etc, the whole time knowing his decision rested on Card's decision. Why not just say that up front?
It makes everything Brown has done of late look like a giant publicity stunt to raise his name recognition at a time we actually needed someone to step up and lead.
Very disappointing. Scott has tremendous potential, but his actions of the last week, and speeches like this really make it tough to get excited about his future.
Even operating with a fraction of the money Card will raise for this race, Brown would have likely made a better showing at the polls than Card will. Aside from the fact that Andy presently lives in Virginia with his family, Mass voters will think he is George W. Bush by the time elction day comes around. I've included an excerpt from a previous post I've made regarding Card below:
Card is a great guy. Loved by Ds and Rs when he was in the statehouse. Selfless public servant. One of the truly nice guys in politics, and probably the most qualified candidate for this seat -- that includes Dems and R's by the way -- on paper. But with all due respect to Andy, he would just get destroyed in this Massachusetts U.S. Senate race. Andy was the longest serving COS in history to....George W. Bush. Can you imagine the field day the Dems would have? I mean, they would literally hang every negative incident from the entire Bush presidency around his neck. Voters would think he was GWB by the time the Dems got finished with him. And while those of us on this site might not mind, he just couldn't pick a worse state in the U.S. than Mass to run as GWB's COS. I don't care how many books he writes saying where he disagreed with W's policies. He wouldn't even crack 40% in this race on a good day. I could see a scenario where he could win a Gov's race down the road if he actually moved back to Mass given the odd dynamics of statehouse/Gov politics. But Teddy's U.S. Senate seat? No way. ........ This isn't a Governors race where some Dems are ambivalent about the outcome and will sit on their hands or cross over. This is the United States Senate (and Teddy's seat to boot) and Dems/Unions will rally around the flag and do anything, anything, it takes to win. They're expecting a coronation....It will take a larger than life figure for the Republicans to win Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate Seat.

All of this being said: I'm still in the Schilling camp (I or R) because he's the only one with a chance of winning and keeping the Dems from 60 seats, but since that isn't looking like its gonna happen, Card is my man and I'll work for him. Just hard to get excited about this turn in events.
I disagree that Andy has no chance though, although clearly if he let's himself get painted as Bush, he has no chance here in Mass. I'm sure Andy will raise a tremendous amount of money for this race though. Between all of Andy's contacts with Bush donors and the Washington Republican establishment, he'll be able to raise big dollars from outside Massachusetts like no other candidate could. This is important given Card will have to compete for Republican dollars in Massachusetts with Baker/?.
I think Andy will keep this thing close, particularly because the Dems will have to spend alot of money trying to win what's looking to be at least a 4 or 5 way primary. Card can save most of his money until late in the race and then use it down the stretch. He'll need it to defend himself from what will be a huge onslaught of Democratic money nationally if this thing is even remotely close in the last 30 days.
