Teachers Union Wants You To Report Sales Tax Petition Gatherers

by: Garrett Quinn

Mon Sep 14, 2009 at 18:08:29 PM EDT

( - promoted by Garrett)

Sure, the attempt to repeal the state income tax went down in flames but that doesn't mean future tax cut petitions won't work. It certainly hasn't deterred the same group from trying again, except this time they're challenging the state sales tax.

The Center for Small Government is organizing to put a question on the November 2010 ballot that would cut the state sales tax to 3%. They need help with gathering signatures to put it on the ballot. Check them out here.

In the meantime the forces of waste and inefficiency are already organizing to stop the petition from even making the ballot. The Massachusetts Teachers Association sent out an email calling the potential sales tax cut a "Threat To Our Communities" and contained the usual bullshit about how the world will stop rotating and puppies will die if we cut taxes. Read it for yourself below.

Garrett Quinn :: Teachers Union Wants You To Report Sales Tax Petition Gatherers
What is interesting about this email is not the blabbering about services and "working families." We've come to expect that type of boring rhetoric. The reporting and monitoring part is really intriguing. Are they orchestrating a union intimidation campaign? Maybe they think Carla Howell & Co. aren't serious.

It is legal for them to send out hired goons to discourage people from signing the petition. It is not legal for them to call stores and make up lies that petition gatherers are harassing customers.

Remember if you see something say something.

Subject: HELP NEEDED - To Protect State Revenues
                                                              A Threat to Our Communities

A small group of individuals are threatening to jeopardize Massachusetts working families by seeking to qualify a number of initiative petitions. One these would reduce the sales tax which would cut state revenues by approximately $2.5 billion.  This would result in cuts in our communities to education, health care, public safety and other programs that we all depend on every day.  If you see or have seen any petitioners carrying this or other petitions in your community, please call

THE PETITION HOTLINE

508-556-0796

We need your help in being able to track what's really being circulated and where these petitions are being circulating.  Basically, we need your help in being our eyes and ears on the ground in your community.

Petitioners usually go to grocery stores, libraries, events, and other places that YOU usually frequent. All we're asking you to do is call the PETITION HOTLINE, if you see a petitioner anywhere in public.  Again, that number is:

PETITION HOTLINE:

508-556-0796

If you receive a voicemail please leave a detailed message including the time, date, and location of where you encountered a petitioner.

Thank you for your support and remember to think before you ink!

KEEP the Hotline number with you - 508-556-0796.

Sounds Like Fun .. (0.00 / 0)
I requested a few of those petition sheets for myself. Make my flipping day ...

Should I turn myself in? (0.00 / 0)
I was one of the 10 official signers of the Ballot Question. Maybe I should report myself.
