The ACORN 8 - Mass delegation votes 1Y-8N-1Not Voting in ACORN defunding vote

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Thu Sep 17, 2009 at 20:37:01 PM EDT

Today the House of Representatives voted 345-75 to strip the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now(ACORN) of all federal funding.  The amendment was offered as part of the Student Loan financing act.  75 Members of Congress voted against defunding of those 75 eight were from Massachusetts.  That means over 10 percent of ACORN's support came from the Commonwealth.  According to the Associated Press here is the House Roll Call.

MASSACHUSETTS

Democrats -- Capuano, N; Delahunt, N; Frank, X; Lynch, N; Markey, N; McGovern, N; Neal, N; Olver, N; Tierney, Y; Tsongas, N.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the ACORN 8

Tierney has a backbone? (0.00 / 0)
Who knew?

Tierney (5.00 / 1)
Has a multimillionaire challenger on the Republican side. Not so much a backbone.

Everytime I see (0.00 / 0)
McGovern's shiny dome I want to barf.  This man just figured out after his last town hall that maybe "Not everyone agrees with him".  I can't wait until someone is able to defeat him.  You know, I agree more often with the GOP (in general), but there are very few DEMS I haven't found some area of agreement at least occasionally (even Barney Frank)...but I have never agreed with this guy once.  He has never represented my views once since taking office.  The GerryMandering that has been perpetuated has some of the most conservative areas of the state represented by this clown.

I received a boilerplate email from him today that explained to me how cap and trade will cost not much more than the cost of postage stamp (according to the EPA).

So glad (0.00 / 0)
to see that my new Rep (Tsongas) supports a felonious entity.

I will remember this next year.

Nikki is easy to keep track of.
If you are for it she is against it and vise versa ... This method of analogy works every time and it saves on a lot of eyestrain.

An interesting question for these Kongressional Klowns (0.00 / 0)
Racist organizations lost their tax status, and their effective ability to do any business, when the IRS ruled that such organizations aren't allowed to have government sponsorship.  No one lobbies to reinstate their tax status, and we all chant "yay! down with racism!"

The worst of such groups in their heyday would never have been doing the scale of illegal actions that ACORN is capable of doing, and doing on a daily basis.  With millions in government money, they are facilitating drug lords, nationwide voter fraud, human trafficking, they are union busters, they violate minimum wage laws, file fraudulent loan applications, pressure banks and businesses to waste millions of dollars for political purposes and do it all under the umbrella of "helping the poor" when the only person they're helping is themsevles, often to the tune of a million dollars such as the founder's brother who embezzled as much on ACORN credit cards.  This entire organization is organized crime with political protection and federal grants.

no justice, no peace.

Ben not after next week (0.00 / 0)
they won't get Federal grants. Tell James THANK YOU. Also would James be willing to do the first Red Mass Gathering as the keynote speaker?  Email me.

they'll still have their tax status (0.00 / 0)
the IRS can revoke their ability to do business, that's what I was referring to

the removal of feds is the denial of money.  the feds could also deny their status as a c3.

no justice, no peace.

which they should also do for la raza, for that matter (5.00 / 1)

Lynch (0.00 / 0)
Disappointing.  And he wanted to be my Senator.

Bob Hedlund for Minority Leader.

Well Put (0.00 / 0)

I had been hoping he would have won the Dem primary.  Now my rose colored glasses are off.

He's got the left breathing down his throat (0.00 / 0)
I actually kinda feel for the guy. He's an old time lunch-bucket (relative) conservative guy from Southie, who's increasingly leftist/radical party has left him behind like a scrambled out fetus.

I think he voted for the ACORN thing to toss the lefties and BMG types a bone. They DO NOT like that he had "the nerve" to even briefly consider himself a Senate candidate, and want this guys blood in a primary. Watch this intensify over the next year, and remember that sometimes an enemy of an enemy is a friend.

They do not like this guy because he's pro-life, pro-military, anti-Healthcare takeover, and anti-Globe. Honestly, they attack him for the things that most of us are in one way or another. Heck, I'd probably vote for this guy over some Republicans, but still I think this shows his times about up. The progressives are in charge of his party now and boy do they not like him, tossing them a bone on ACORN ain't gonna be enough. At this stage he might be better off becoming a Republican its so bad.

Just had a thought... (0.00 / 0)
Could see him running as a possible LG to Cahill. Same area sorta (Southie/Quincy), but this suddenly makes a lot of sense to me.

Who else is going to join Cahill's team? Whoever it is is going to be permanently ending their relationship with their party (Republican or Democrat), so as I see it, maybe Lynch should consider it... the Dems are moving to throw him out of their party anyway.

[ Parent ]
Is LG Better? (0.00 / 0)
Abandoning your safe congressional seat for a chance at being LG?  I don't see it.

As for abortion:

2007-2008  Representative Lynch supported the interests of the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association 100 percent in 2007-2008.

2007-2008  Based on a point system, with points assigned for actions in support of or in opposition to National Right to Life Committee's position, Representative Lynch received a rating of 0.

2007  In 2007 NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Representative Lynch a grade of 100.

http://www.votesmart.org/issue...

Lynch actually is quite a bit better on the abortion issue than the other 9, but he's probably not as "pro-life" as you think he is.

Bob Hedlund for Minority Leader.

Compliant lapdogs for the DNC (0.00 / 0)
At this point it would appropriate to just dress each of these fools up in the leashes and collars they so richly deserve.
This is the representation we so stupidly re-elect election after election.

Where is Bill Delahunt? (0.00 / 0)
We, in the tenth, have been wondering as to Bill's whereabouts as we are still waiting for his Town Hall Meeting on healthcare. Consider it a small blessing that at least he's not in Caracas sucking up to Hugo Chavez and his nuclear ambitions.

John Malloy

Forget Healthcare, where's he been for the past 10 years?! (0.00 / 0)
Having worked down in DC for a couple of Republican Congressman, who EVERY week/weekend were back in their districts no matter how far-flung, it astounds me that I don't think I have EVER bumped into Bill Delahunt at any event or anything on the South Shore. He's the epitome of the absentee Congressman! It's really quite remarkable, and I really have no idea how he gets away with it (well I do) nor that he has any problem with that.

I remember Mike Jones, his challenger in 04, had the line that "he's been to Cuba more times than Carver" and sure enough it was actually true! Its a pretty stunning display of arrogance or just rudeness, not to give them people who elect him the time of day. I have met him subsequently and he's nice enough, but I still have an issue with him not seeming to give to much care to the likes of Plymouth, Carver, and Pembroke.

Of course his staff left me this little gem a while back: When calling to register my opinion on Cap and Trade or whatever legislation it was that got me heated enough to make a call, the staff member answering the phone asked me if "Pembroke" was in the district... ugh... heaven help us.
