Jack E. Robinson makes ballot for US Senate.

by: Mike "DD4RP" Rossettie

Thu Oct 22, 2009 at 08:20:58 AM EDT

Um... I... um.... what?  According to The Boston Herald:
Republican Jack E. Robinson is making a last-minute bid for the U.S. Senate, filing 10,900 signatures with the Duxbury town clerk just before the Tuesday deadline, according to a source close to the campaign.  Robinson, who coughed up $100,000 to collect the signatures, will challenge Wrentham state Sen. Scott Brown in the Dec. 8 GOP primary.

I for one am thrilled to hear the news because I think this helps Scott Brown.   Donate to Scott Brown for US Senate!

  •  Jack E. has no chance to win this primary.  None.  After Scott Brown mops the floor with him the very nature of a landslide victory will create a feeling of momentum for the campaign.
  • It will cause the media to give the Republican primary some attention.  This attention will help raise Scott Brown's profile and Name ID.  Avoiding the Kerry Healey media blackout is important.
  • Many newspapers will endorse.  They can't endorse Jack E. or they might lose credibility.  This forces them to endorse Scott Brown.  More momentum for Brown.
  • He might even get a televised debate out of it.  Ogonowski got one for his 90% victory in the 5th against his also-ran.

All good things.

If You remember back in September, Eabo broke this story right here on Red Mass Group: http://www.redmassgroup.com/sh...

10,000 signatures (5.00 / 1)
I would have got him the 10,000 signatures for 89,000.

Ha! (0.00 / 0)
I know really! Geez Jackie, you got hosed dude!

That makes no sense at all. Maybe the reporter doesn't understand the process (0.00 / 0)
The signatures have to be certified by each city ot town clerk in which they were collected, then submitted to the Sec State for approval or challemges no ? If I were the Brown cmapign, I would challenge all of them.  My info has it that tons of them are not eligible as they are democrats or signed petitions in the wrog town.

Something odd!?!?!? (0.00 / 0)
Either the reporter got this wrong, or there's something fishy about this. I can't see how Jack E. got 10,800 GOP and unenrolled signatures in Duxbury in order to make the ballot. I think that the story should read that he's from Duxbury and he got the 10,800 signatures into the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office to make the ballot.
We'll know in a couple of days as the deadline to get certified signatures into the SoC is in a few days. My bet is that one of the major candidates didn't make it. We know Scott Brown did!

I thought he lived in Brockton...  Or was that just a carpetbagger move to get on the ballot here.

Robinson's signatures (0.00 / 0)

1. Does sound like the reporter does not understand the process.

2. $100,000 for signature gathering seems really high.  If he got 10,900 raw, that's about $9 a signature.  If he got 20,000 raw and 10,900 good, that's still $5 a raw signature.

I agree (0.00 / 0)
I know some people that do signature gathering and the "normal" rate is $4 raw.

Actually.... (0.00 / 0)
That's pretty much the going rate.

In 2002, I worked for a state-wide GOP candidate, and the paid signature gatherers wanted $4.50 per Raw signature.

So, seven years later, not surprising that they're now charging $5.

Could be an opportunity (0.00 / 0)
Aside from the additional spending that Scott will now have to with the entrance of Mr. Robinson, this could be the perfect solution to keeping him in the minds of the undecided while the Democrats have their food fight in the battle to capture the flag of Leftism. So, if Brown can reload with at least enough $$ to be heard in the general election, you have to now examine how this can be useful.

Kerry Healey was almost an after thought by the time the general elections came in 2006.

Senator Brown will appear much more competent and reasonable than Robinson if both stay true to form.

All one can do is go forward with the hand one is dealt. Lemonade, I say.

Memories of Jack E. Robinson (0.00 / 0)
I remember trying to campaign for Jack E. Robinson back oh, nearly 9-10 years ago when I was a college student in UMass Dartmouth (2000-2001).

I met Jack at the Dartmouth Town Hall, nearly forgetting to put my car in park so it started to roll out of its space, and then having him jump in my car and taking him to the Dartmouth Mall.

The entire way I kept telling him that the Dartmouth Mall is a ghost town & that the local Walmart has a much more active customer base (seriously!).  Anyway, we ended up going to the mall and walking around for awhile.  I recall trying to shake hands in a nail salon and the two of us, dressed in suit & tie, walked into Victoria's Secret.  Yes, I wanted to die.

However, the worst had to be when I, as chairman of the fledgling UMass Dartmouth College Republicans, and at Jack's request, obtained the largest lecture hall possible at UMD and had been advertising a speech by Jack that evening.  Luckily, I didn't pay for the campus police detail as I think we had 6-10 people in attendance.

What can I say, I learned a thing or two between then & my Dartmouth GOP BBQ of last August.  :)

I have no animus or bitter memories of Jack E. Robinson and as such, I'll wish my fellow Republican all the best.  However, my support - time, effort, and blood, sweat, & tears if necessary - this time around goes towards my friend, Scott Brown for US Senate.

Under Promise, Over Achieve (0.00 / 0)
Good Story.  Anyone who has been involved in politics knows to book a smaller room than you need so that it looks full.  When we brought conservative speakers to speak at UMass we would do exactly that.  There were some great rooms too that could be divided for the space you need.  If only 20 people show up, you're fine.  If 60 show up you open another divider.  If 100 show up, open the other one.  Also, you could have standing room in the back or bring in extra chairs.  No matter what the turnout, the room always looked full.

Get me the biggest lecture hall you can find.  HA!  That's right up there with not going door to door because people don't like it when you bother them at home.  While you're at it, don't raise any money because people are turned off by money in politics.

Bob Hedlund for Minority Leader.
