HATE LETTER SENT TO MY HOME FROM THE CONSERVATIVES

by: David.Rose

Sat Nov 07, 2009 at 19:52:52 PM EST

(I'm a conservative. I don't condone this sort of tactic. This is disgusting and I hope the authorities prosecute to the full extent of the law.  The last time I checked death threats through the US Mail is a Federal Crime. - promoted by EaBo Clipper)

For the people that don't know me, my name is David Rose. I'm the 1st Bristol and Plymouth State Committeeman and also the Candidates Committee Chairman.  Today I was opening my mail and to my surprise I received a letter with no return address but it did have a Boston post mark.  The envelope  contained a very disturbing letter and image.  I don't know if I should be scared or feel sorry for the sad person that created it.   The disturbed author wrote the following:

"Your not as well liked as you think Rino.  Rino hunting season will be here shortly be careful.  Your trusted friends may not be trustworthy."

Folded in the letter was this image.

It is obvious that the individual(s) has a personal grudge against the Mass GOP and why they have decided to personally attack me, I have no idea.

Because of all the crazy individuals and the violent acts that have happened this past week by extremist.  I have decided to take this letter seriously and filed a formal complaint with the Fall River Police Dept.  I have some idea who the author maybe and have shared this information with the Police Department.

At least they got my good side! (0.00 / 0)
At least whichever mentally derranged loon did this got my good side!  That's some photoshopping skills there!

Of course, I've been a social & fiscal conservative all of my adult life but hey, there's always some crazy ultra-far right nut for whom Jesus Christ wouldn't be acceptable.  Now, I'm certainly not the Messiah but I wager that He & I would agree on pro-life, traditional marriage, fetal stem cell cloning, and etc.

I've been called many things but liberal & RINO have never credibly been one of them.

Oh well... it should've been done in color & maybe I'll get my copy in Monday's mail!

"Tomorrow will be better for as long as America keeps alive the ideals of freedom and a better life." - Walt Disney

If they think this about you and Dave - IMAGINE what they think of me! (0.00 / 0)

I get two-three unsigned letters a month - but they are local loons.  They tend to be on small notepaper with pictues of kittens or butterflies, handwritten, and given to MUCH capitalization and emphasis marks.  Elderly liberal women is my guess.

I forwarded one of my 'evil conservative scum' emails to a local guy who replied I was nothing but a RINO anyway, so why did they bother with me?

Can't make anybody happy....

The real tragedy (5.00 / 3)
The real tragedy in this underneath the surface.  References to "RINO hunting" could be seen as political or it could be seen has a physical threat.  I choose to try to laugh it off and take a mocking attitude towards the author(s).

That said, to someone with a wife & kids it's not a laughing matter.  Ironically, I had been in Dave Roses' house yesterday for the first time.  I got the tour of the place & actually noticed his mail sitting on a table by the door.  I suppose that I looked right at the letter in question.  Dave & I had carpooled together to the MassGOP Candidates Academy in Lexington & I had left my car at his house.  Dave is the chairman of the MassGOP Candidates Academy and works tirelessly in that capacity and does s in a manner that is usually off the radar screen.  Dave isn't the loud, perhaps the even in-your-face kind of opinionated person like me.  Makes his targeting all that more interesting.  That said, it was on the drive home when I got back to Dartmouth that Dave called me up with news of the letter.

The real tragedy with the letter & its accompanying cartoon is that it comes from one of us.  It comes from within MassGOP activist circles.  This vile letter which could be construed as a threat was clearly composed by someone with intimate knowledge of the MassGOP.  Surely, the author is a self-professed conservative.  However, let me rhetorically ask everyone here on RMG.  While we know MassGOP Chairman Jennifer Nassour & Republican National Committeeman Ron Kaufman... do you really think that the average Republican knows who the heck Ron is?!  They may not even have an idea as to who Jenn is.  I would suggest that the average registered Republican isn't really aware of the State Committee structure in general.  The average Republican might want to rage against Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin or whoever is in the news... but this letter & it's cartoon is inside baseball.

As such, this incident was created by someone who, instead of going out to register Republican voters, engage in voter identification, raise funds for their local or state Republican committee, or do any concrete steps to elect Republican candidates... these clearly disturbed individuals, perhaps suffering from some severe psychosis, have decided to try to personally attack a good, hard working, conservative Republican activist & State Committee member.  Make no mistake, David Rose is a gentleman who is both a Republican & conservative.  No, my friend, David Rose, is far - FAR - from a RINO.  The difference between David Rose (who may very well agree 99% on the issues with the letter writer) and the author is that David Rose is indeed a gentleman.  David doesn't foam & froth at the mouth with utter vile and hate.  David isn't filled with a poisonous bile deep in his gut that twists & corrupts him and his activity like the writer.  David Rose, and those within the State Committee & larger MassGOP, typifies the hard working activists who simply go about the hard, unglamorous work of party building & simply don't ask for any recognition or reward.

So, one one hand we have a serious conservative Republican State Committeeman like David Rose being viciously attacked by ultra-reactionary far right nuts who are united only in their hate of their boogeyman.  Rather then build the MassGOP - they'd rather tear it down.  Rather than spend their time trying to elect either Scott Brown or Jack E. Robinson for US Senate with a little over 2 months to go - they'd rather waste their time photshopping pictures.

Did a "RINO hunting" letter & ridiculous cartoon help defeat an incumbent Republican?  Did this activity help to elect a conservative Republican?  Heck, did it even help to advance the very agenda that its people profess?  Of course not!

If anything, such shenanigans simply continue to show the utter lunacy of a reactionary rump and its utter desperation and desolation.

As for me?  Sure, I'm a very visible State Committeeman.  It's hard to miss me here on RMG, Facebook, Twitter, editorials, talk radio, etc.  I serve the MassGOP in a few elected & appointed capacities.  I'm an easy target.  Hey, I'm a big guy & that's fine.  I've received crazy letters from liberal Democrat loons over the years and I've laughed those off.  However, this time this attack came from within - from one of our own conservative Republicans.

The difference between me (I won't presume to speak for David, but again - he is a true conservative gentleman) and the letter writers? I can be for traditional marriage.  I can have lobbied the State House during the constitutional convention to define marriage as solely the union of 1 man & 1 woman here in the Commonwealth... yet I can do so without spewing hate.  I can do so without being homophobic.  I can do so without trying to attack, belittle, and ultimately dehumanize my fellow man.  Me?  I'm about a pro-life as you can possibly get.  I'm proud to be pro-life.  The difference between me & them?  Simple, I'm not only merely a single issue voter to the extent that I believe that I can co-exist in the same party with those who disagree with me.  That doesn't stop me from working to change their hearts & minds.  That doesn't stop me from praying & educating on life issues... but it also means that I don't take my ball & run home to the concrete bunker in my backyard.  The Bathroom Bill?  I was up with MFI lobbying against that.  I'm against fetal stem cell research.  I'm clearly pro-Second Amendment Rights.  You name it, and I probably agree with the letter writer on the issues.

The difference?  I am a conservative who doesn't knee jerk hate my fellow Republican or simply my fellow human being.  To wrap up a very long story - I don't have to destroy others in order to build up my self-esteem and prove my conservative bona fides.

How did that Toby Keith song go?  Oh yes, "I'm a man of my convictions, call me wrong or call me right.  But I bring my better angels to every fight.  You may not like where I'm going but you sure know where I've been.  Hate me if you want to, love me if you can."

For some people, well they may erroneously profess to be flying on the side of angels in self-delusion but they're wallowing the the demons in a Hellish political pig sty.  Why not climb on out, shower off, and join the rest of us in the MassGOP - who may not always agree, may not always work as a well oiled machine - but have a common goal to elect Republicans and enact conservative principles into public policy.

Whoever wrote that letter & created that cartoon owes David Rose an apology.  I'm not sure if he wants another letter to his house but you owe Dave a sincere & heartfelt mea culpa.  While you're at it, you owe the Massachusetts Republican Party a public confession - I suggest the next State Committee meeting on Wednesday, November 18.  Of course, I won't hold my breath for a deranged, deluded & disturbed individual to take the high road and do the right thing.  Assuming no "I'm sorry" notes or speeches are coming any time soon... please at least seek professional help.  I promise you, in order to have sent that letter, you desperately need it.

The real tragedy, is the time wasted in creating the letter and the negativity sent out that simply turns off good & decent Republicans from engaging in conservative activism.  You've done the MassGOP & conservative movement a grave disservice.  You should be ashamed.

PS - The MassGOP Candidates Academy, run by our staffers and including presentations by David Rose, Sen. Richard Tisei, Rep. Brad Jones & Rep. Jones Peterson was great.  I took the day off of work & attended just for the informational aspects and several current candidates approached me at the time & later via the net to express their positive reactions.  I'm excited about our future legislative prospects!

Thank you for demonstrating... (0.00 / 0)
...one more time how stereotypes and ignorance govern your intellect.  This mailing refers to way to much inside conservative politics for any liberal to have a grasp of.  And when Brock and Ken concede that it is indeed fellow conservative, you are context to let your slander stink up discourse.

Heart-breaking! (5.00 / 1)
David - this is very disturbing and all the more reason why we MUST have frank dicussions regarding which direction we seek to travel as a Party.  First we must define who we are and what we stand for...I certainly do NOT stand for this type of conduct exhibited by a coward and bully.

Hate has no place in politics.  I keep hoping that the GOP will return to the ideals that once made us great ... the ideals that drew me into the party so many years ago...but more and more I get the feeling that there is no place for me here, especially since we systematically "eat our own" and waste time tearing eachother apart instead of taking advantage of the GOP strides made in N.J. and VA...it will take more than momentum to win back the Governor's office in MA...it will take a team effort with everyone working toward the same goal.  That may mean putting aside old hurts and arguements of the past, forgiveness and foreward-thinking sanity.

Once our GOP candidates are determined in 2010 we must all come together to back whomever it is we nominate...otherwise, we will have sqandered the best chance we will have in the foreseeable future to return a two-party system in Massachusetts.

To para-phrase from the Founding Fathers: we must all stand together or surely we will hang apart!

This is a mailing sent by a individual nut job.

If you want hear from a conservative, talk to Brock.  He's a conservative activist in the party who is being directly, and unfairly, attacked in this mailer.  As a conservative, I would be proud to stand with Brock Cordeiro any day against this nonsense.

making threats against people who are likely to be packing?  BRILLIANT!

Thank you for posting about this here. (5.00 / 1)
I must tell you that 4 times a year I receive a very threatening letter in the mail that really upsets me to the core.  It is from a liberal no doubt and the very text of the letter is sickening.  I am going to call the police the next time it comes to my house.

It starts with the same wording every time.

"PROPERTY TAX BILL"

It should be "You're" no "Your." (0.00 / 0)
It should also be RINO or R.I.N.O, not Rino.

Centurion: What's this, then? "Romanes eunt domus"? People called Romanes, they go, the house?
Brian: It says, "Romans go home. "
Centurion: No it doesn't ! What's the latin for "Roman"? Come on, come on !
Brian: Er, "Romanus" !
Centurion: Vocative plural of "Romanus" is?
Brian: Er, er, "Romani" !
Centurion: [Writes "Romani" over Brian's graffiti] "Eunt"? What is "eunt"? Conjugate the verb, "to go" !
Brian: Er, "Ire". Er, "eo", "is", "it", "imus", "itis", "eunt".
Centurion: So, "eunt" is...?
Brian: Third person plural present indicative, "they go".
Centurion: But, "Romans, go home" is an order. So you must use...?

How to Piss Off a Conservative? (0.00 / 0)
Call him a RINO. It had to be someone who wants to get under Brock and Dave's skin.

Good laugh (5.00 / 1)
I won't speak for David but I roared with laughter when I heard about it and then again when I actually saw it.

As far as who made it... I have a pretty good idea of who the culprit(s) are & unfortunately it would come from the self-professed "pure" conservative wing of the party.

But hey, I won't bother to waste any more time on it than I already have.  I've got much more important things to do... like dedicate myself to building the MassGOP - especially locally & within my region - electing Scott Brown as our next US Senator & doing my utmost to elect Charlie Baker as our next governor.

Let us get back to the business of promoting conservative principles through the election of Republican candidates!

Sorry Dan Brown, it can't be me (3.50 / 2)
I've read all of Dan Brown's books & well I simply could not be the shocking twist in the grand international conspiracy - after all, he always uses the Freemasons as his plot device & I'm a Catholic who belongs to the Knights of Columbus.  I'm automatically excommunicated if I join the Masons.  :)

Then again, Brown wasn't too nice to the Catholic Church in either Angels & Demons or the DaVinci Code.

The problem with whoever made the cartoon is that they think that they are proverbially more Catholic than the Pope!  Forget Traditionalists, they're Sedevacantists!

I can never decide if "lizard people" is serious or not (0.00 / 0)
or if it's just a codeword.

I remember watching some interview with an ADL stooge who kept insisting that they of course didn't mean real lizards, that it was just a codeword, with the guy saying, "no no no, we really mean lizards, real lizards, scales..."

Hilarious.

Personally though, I think the Masons, Knights Templar, Illuminati, Brock, lizards are all part of a grander conspiracy:

also my favorite movie.

DNA language has uber rightwing Fall River leadership all over it. (5.00 / 1)
L.R. can also stand for "Losing Republicans". This is immature, low brow and, I'm afraid typical of what has happened to our Fall River team. Both David and Brock are exactly who we want on the team and instead, we have a small fringe cell in the SE MASS GOP who would prefer a monolithic echo chamber even if they can call for conferences in a phone booth.

Leave the ridiculing of outlandish policy to the experts (me) and try something different; GROW the Republican Party.

I don't care if the proxy used came from the Boston area, only a specific few (2) people call Rose and Cordeiro these things.

Well, it is true that I own over 40,000 comic books in my personal collection (tomorrow is new comic day where I go pump money into the economy at my local mom & pop comic shop).

However, yes I do get involved with several charitable activities throughout the year - both personally & in conjunction with my employment.  However, I don't often like to speak of those, beyond what is required for PR for work purposes, as well... I'd rather give (or do) and not to count the cost.

VESuggestions has been a friend of mine for oh well, probably over a decade at this point and his definition of me using those 3 items was certainly well intentioned & well taken, thank you both VE & Ken!
