Tisei: Breaking the Republican Mold Since 1984

by: republicanvoices

Senator Tisei was first elected to the State House of Representatives in 1984, at the age of 22. TruthSeeker tells an interesting anecdote of how Tisei had to commute from DC each weekend, as an undergraduate at American University, to campaign for the House seat.

Earlier on this blog, I posted the following, "I think Richard Tisei epitomizes the policy prescriptions of Ross Douthat (in Grand New Party), Rod Dreher (in Crunchy Cons), and Sam Tanenhaus, all in one." I explain here.

Tisei: Breaking the Republican Mold Since 1984
By Andrew Ryan, Globe Staff

Richard R. Tisei first won elected office at age 22, defeating a Democrat in 1984 for an open legislative seat. The victory made the Wakefield resident the youngest Republican ever elected to the state House of Representatives.

"I broke people's preconceived notions about what a Republican is," Tisei told the Globe in a story published on Feb. 2, 1986. ". . . We have to go on breaking the stereotypes."

That comment 24 years ago looked prescient today as Republican Charles D. Baker tapped Tisei to be his running mate in next year's gubernatorial race. Last week in an interview with the Globe, Tisei publicly acknowledged that he was gay, which has long been an open secret on Beacon Hill.

"It is not exactly a news flash,'' Tisei said in the interview. "I don't think people really care these days.''

When? (0.00 / 0)
He has championed the bread-and-butter GOP issues of cutting taxes

When exactly did he do this?  Was it when he voted against the income tax rollback?  Was it when he actively opposed question 1?  There will likely be a ballot question in 2010 to cut the sales tax back to 3%.  Where will Tisei come out on this issue?  I'll bet he will oppose this too.
Tisei will provide some balance for Baker

How, exactly?  Tisei isn't balance, he is of the same mold.  There is no balance here in either ideology or geography.  They are both liberal Republicans from the north shore.

Bob Hedlund for Minority Leader.

Good point-thye just gave Cahill a huge adnvantage if they win ! Same, Same. (0.00 / 0)

Really?
