Do you have evidence on Tisei's positions on education issues?  I'm pretty sure he would be for lifting the cap on charters, MCAS, teacher testing and merit pay.  If not, that would be a huge issue for the baker campaign as one of Baker's claims to fame was his involvement with Pioneer and Ed Reform.

Unfortunately, the MTA doesn't have a typical list of issues vs candidates in a scorecard form.  One reason is because some of these issues aren't directly education issues.  For example, they support higher taxes pretty much across the board.  I doubt they would want an easy on the record place for people to use this against their endorsed candidates.

Seriously--you can't possibly be defending this one.  The MTA doesn't give money to people unless they are with the teachers' union.

As an LG you can be all for the most conservative of conservative education policies, but actions speak louder than words.

Even Menino & Obama are for increasing the number of charter schools at this point.  MCAS is already law and teacher testing and merit pay certainly won't become policy because of a Tisei LG--they might become policy in spite of Tisei.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Can public school teachers be Republicans? (4.00 / 1)

As someone who passed the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) a few years back with flying colors, and who holds a preliminary license to teach middle & high school social studies... am I supposed to simply resign the Massachusetts Republican Party & change my party affiliation if I were to land a public school teaching job? :)

After all, accepting the job offer would require me to join a teacher's union.

I have met who are republicans or just generally conservative, but they tend to act a little like the Hollywood types and keep a low profile for fear of being shunned.  But they are few and far between.  It's just assumed that if you are a public school teacher you are a DEM and support the actions of the union...but that is not always the case.

I met a former middle school teacher of mine who retired and has since returned to a parochial school out of boredom (he did not enjoy retirement).  I asked him if he missed the public school system and in his words "For the first time in my teacher career I don't have to fight anymore, and I like it"

A good friend of mine (0.00 / 0)

A good friend of mine is a registered "unenrolled" voter and a Massachusetts public school teacher.  He has never voted for a Democrat in his life and was an officer in the College Republicans.  He stays "unenrolled" for exactly that reason.

A Baker supporter called me one day ...... (0.00 / 0)

I was told that if Baker didn't get elected, the party wouldn't exist anymore. My first thought was what have we got now ? But at least there is/was something there.

But now seems that if he and his "team" does get elected, what's left of the party won't exist anymore.
We are in big pile of doodoo here unless people get up and get involved to stop the leftward path of our party. Take control and take back our party.  Are you fed up enough yet ??
