Bill Clinton Fundraiser For Coakley Jan. 15?

by: Garrett Quinn

Fri Jan 08, 2010 at 17:19:09 PM EST

Sources are informing Red Mass Group that Martha Coakley is bringing in former president Bill Clinton to host a fundraiser for her on January 15- just four days away from the special election.

BILL.
CLINTON.

The invitation is after the jump.

Hopefully.... (0.00 / 0)
Scott can twist this around and just show everyone how she will be just like everyone else in Washington.

I don't know how much of an impact he will be. I don't think it'll hurt her though.

I Heard Brown Will Counter With Rudy (0.00 / 0)
Can anyone confirm this. Not a bad choice for Massachusetts, as long as we get the charming Rudy.

But I guess they really are paying attention now. Ten days to go. We'll see if its too little too late.

Bill Clinton only shows up to save the dying...... (5.00 / 3)
It has become common knowledge that if Bill Clinton shows up its because the person is in trouble.  Clinton is the last adept liberal politician and he is called in like some kind of relief pitcher to get the inning over with.

Coakley is in trouble - the bases are loaded and there are no outs.  Bring in Bubba.

well (5.00 / 1)
This MA...generally in those situations the home team is at risk of walking in a run.

Lock up the women...Willy is coming to town.

I love this viewpoint (0.00 / 0)
but what do you think his impact will be?

It's like chicken soup (0.00 / 0)
It couldn't hurt.  Tough call at this point.

My take is that it is a net wash...it will pull some on the fence to Coakley and push some off toward Brown.

Money is not the issue for Martha...as someone else pointed out, you can't win simply by spending more, but you sure can lose because you didn't spend enough.

But the VP3N analogy is spot-on....if this were the Yankees...this would be the political equivalent of Stienbrenner calling Torre in the dugout and saying "Cut the screwing around and put the call in for Mariano Rivera".

Clinton will get coverage on TV, and be able to call to mind the sins of the Bush admin, blame the GOP for the mess the economy is in, probably invoke the spirit of Kennedy, and give a big rally call for the DEMS to not let Kennedy's seat fall into GOP hands".  I have no doubt the DEM base will vote for Coakley, but it's those PO'd indies that can't be measured.  The unenrolled who can't be bothered to vote in primaries or midterms.  They outnumber the GOP and DEMS put together.

p.s.  I just got a call from Brown's Wrentham office...they are putting out the call for help for this Sunday.

Lately (0.00 / 0)
I see more like John Wasden!

Still got enough left so it's worth keeping him around for a while, but don't be surprised if he throws up a fat one that ends up on the roof of the parking garage on Landsdowne St.

And speaking of Bill Clinton (0.00 / 0)
I've always wondered why Teddy endorsed BHO over HRC.  If this account can be taken as accurate, I may have an answer

http://www.politico.com/blogs/...

[A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill's handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.

My goodness Bill...Harry Reid apolgizing for calling the president a "Negro", Joe Biden remarking he's "Clean and speaks well" and now you?  Who is it that claims to fight for minorities?  At least Teddy had a little class and enough humanity to take offense.

Jeez, they claim the GOP is full of grumpy old white men...not so sure anymore.
