Greetings RMGers!
One of the posts breaks out the Brown vote in the 9th Congressional District (Brown won 53.8%-46.2%), but misses the real news. Not only did Scott lose the Boston Wards/Precincts in the 9th by only a 55-45 margin (when normally GOPers get blown out 2 or 3 to 1 in Boston), but the real shocker is that Scott came within 2,000 votes of winning Brockton -- which a Republican has never done (not even Weld).
As you all know, I ran against Lynch in 2006 and got swept out to sea with the wave that allowed the Dems to retake Congress that year. This time, however, it may be Lynch's turn to be swept out on a wave!
Many supporters have suggested that I take on Lynch in a rematch. (More below the fold). |
| I'm actually polling in the District over the next several days and should have the results by the middle of next week. However, I value the honest & informed opinions of RMG'ers more than a general poll.
I see several problems. First, Lynch is the most conservative Dem in the delegation and his Boston Wards/Precincts are way more conservative than Capuano's in the 8th. Second, Lynch has $1.3M in the bank. Third, I saw first-hand back in '06 how he can mobilize his union footsoldiers, of which he has more than Coakley could ever hope for. Fourth, although I was born and raised in the District, I currently live in the 10th (although there's no residency requirement for Congress until election day). [BTW, I have no interest in running in the 10th when I support all 3 candidates that are currently being mentioned -- Malone, Hedlund and Perry -- although in a primary I would have to go with my State Sen. (Hedlund).] And Fifth, notwithstanding the current level of giddiness, it will be tough to raise $$$ for this or any other Congressional race this year in light of the full plate we have in the Statewide, County & Local offices.
The "good" news is that I could probably be competitive with Lynch through self-funding, the voters in the 9th have seen my name on a ballot for this office before, and I know the District very well from 2006.
I have mixed feelings because there are other areas/functions in which I could be helpful to the overall MassGOP effort this year other than standing again for public office. Nonetheless, I would really like another shot at Lynch, especially in the current environment.
So, I ask for your honest thoughts -- and please don't worry about hurting my feelings!! |
