Steven Levy for State Representative

by: Mike "DD4RP" Rossettie

Wed Jan 27, 2010 at 09:00:00 AM EST

Steven Levy is running for State Representative in the 4th Middlesex district.  Democrat Fresham Danielle Gregoire was first elected in 2008 with just 48% of the vote and is arguably the most vulnerable Democrat incumbent in the entire state.  According to OCPF, Steven Levy already has a sizable money advantage.  Gregoire has just $2,783.88 and Steven Levy has $12,249.88 according to their 2009 year end reports with OCPF.  He'll need this and much more as Gregoire will again receive extensive funding and outside support from special interest groups (see below).

Steven Levy is serving in his third term as as At-Large city councilor in Marlborough.  He currently represents 14 of the district's 16 precincts.  In 2009, Steven Levy finished in 2nd place out of 8 candidates trailing only City Council President Aurthur Vigeant.  In 2008, he was defeated by Jamie Eldridge for State Senate in the closest Senate race in the State.  Steven Levy won his Rep district in that race by a 54.1% to 45.9% margin.  Levy has been a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility, controlled spending, lower taxes and smaller government at the local level and is probably best know for drafting and passing Marlborough's toughest-in-the-state sex offender ordinance.

Steven Levy works as a public accountant and has an MBA.  He has served as President of the Friends of Marlborough Seniors and as a coordinator and fundraiser for the United Way.  More information can be found on his campaign website StevenLevy.org or his facebook page.

In 2008, Gregoire defeated Vigeant by a 48% to 44% margin.  Unenrolled candidate Joe Valianti spent $0.00 during the general election, moved out of the district, and received 8% of the vote.  Danielle Gregorie was a top priority for Beacon Hill special interests.  Her campaign received $6,922.58 from the Massachusetts Teachers Association and $15,289.81 from the SEIU in third party independent expenditures alone.  Since then, Gregoire has made a number of unpopular moves.  She voted for indicted speaker Sal DiMasi, took a pay raise, voted for Deval's tax hikes, and changed the rules to create the Kirk appointment to the United States Senate.

The 4th Middlesex district is a very good district for a Republican.  It consists Marlborough, Berlin and Southboro precinct 1.  Scott Brown carried each town in the district by at least 15% and won every precinct.

MORE BELOW THE FOLD....

Steve is a class act, and this absolutely has to be considered the one of the (if not number one) top prospect for the Mass GOP going into next years election.

Steve is a workhorse, great candidate, and will do all the work necessary to get elected. I'll be donating as soon as I am possibly able to. You should to.

this guy may actually win (0.00 / 0)
It's nice to see a Republican come out of the gate in a serious way. Will voters feel they haven't given Gregoire a chance though?

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Wow, this should be one heck of a race! (0.00 / 0)
Although I'd assess it more as a "toss-up" than lean-R at this point...it's often a lot harder to unseat an incumbent than it is to pick up a vacant seat. Like it or not, people in this district voted Gegoire in two years ago for a reason.

I did hear from a friend who works on the hill though that there seemed to be a consensus up there that Levy was the strongest possible nominee you guys could throw at Gregoire. So, kudos on the recruiting success!

"toss up" (0.00 / 0)
Danielle Gregoire would give ANYTHING for this race to be labeled a toss up. About 3000 more people voted in 2008 for this race that will vote in 2010. Guess who a large majority of these voters were? Democrats who never vote, will never vote again, but came out for Obama, and voted for the democrat "just because"

If Steven gets the same # of votes Arthur got, he wins by 10%.

This is the single best pick-up opportunity for the State House. (0.00 / 0)
Steve is a hard worker, has an established reputation, and has the willingness to raise the funds needed to win.

And yes, I am biased.

And yes, that is my arm in the photo!
