Jim Stanton for State Representative

by: Mike "DD4RP" Rossettie

Sun Feb 14, 2010 at 11:29:33 AM EST

Jim Stanton is running for State Representative in the 12th Norfolk district against 9 term incumbent John Rogers.  Jim Stanton has $11,582.32 and John Rogers has $28,873.20  cash on hand according to their 2009 year end reports with OCPF.

Jim Stanton is a member of the Walpole Zoning Board of Appeals and is a former prosecutor for the Department of Justice.  He later co-founded the law firm Stanton and Flaherty where he still practices.  More information can be found on his campaign website JimStanton2010.com or his facebook page.

John Rogers was the former Democrat Majority Leader under Sal DiMasi until his unsuccessful fight for speaker against Robert DeLeo.  Now he is nothing.  While Sal DiMasi is now gone, John Rogers still has scandals left behind.  According to the Boston Globe

Rogers has been dogged by his own ethics scandal: He has been accused of paying a consultant with campaign funds, who in turn made mortgage payments on Rogers's Cape Cod vacation home.

John Rogers has been fined agreed to a settlement of $30,000 with OCPF so far.

The 12th Norfolk district is a very good one for a Republican.  Scott Brown won the district by nearly 25% and Walpole was won by both Kerry Healey and John McCain outright.  It consists of the town of Norwood and precincts 1, 2, 6 and 7, of the town of Walpole.

John Rogers had no general election opponent in 2008, 2006, 2004 or 2002.

How different will Jim Stanton be... (0.00 / 0)
...I suspect he'll be like all the rest--Dem or Rep--and take is roughly $70,000 state rep package (pay, per diem, office allowance) and keep a thriving law practice on the side...or will he be different and promise to give up the law practice...that would be a breath of fresh air.

When are activists on both the left and right stop touting politicians that tell them what they want to hear and then proceed with business as usual?

I disagree, I think more of them should KEEP WORKING (5.00 / 1)
While in the Legislature.

Scott Brown kept his practice I believe.

Part time (0.00 / 0)
This groups clearly has too much time on their hands on Beacon Hill....follow NH on this one.  Part time, pay them $100 bucks a year and remove "legislator" as your occupation.  Then you might actually get public service.

Legislature should be part time (0.00 / 0)
Cut them all down to $100 a year.

...but how different will he be from John Rogers?  Very.  It won't take too much not to be fined $30,000 by OCPF.  By simply having the letter (R) after his name he has already avoided being part of the Beacon Hill corrupt party of power.

Bob Hedlund for Minority Leader.

Norfolk County State Rep's (0.00 / 0)
Currently, the GOP holds 1 Norfolk County Seat, that of Richard Ross (R-Wrentham). Ross is giving that seat up whether he wins in May for Brown's seat or not. However, I'm pretty sure Town Moderator Dan Winslow (R-Norfolk) will hold this seat for the GOP in November or in the Special Election to follow Ross's victory as he will be a great candidate, in Massachusetts' most Conservative State Rep District.

I'd Rate that one Safe Republican Hold.

The Democrats hold 14 of the 15 Norfolk County Seats, of which, as far as I know today, the GOP has challengers for 4 of the Incumbent, including Stanton, who you described above. The other three are:
Doug Ness (R-Weymouth), who is challenging Rep. Murphy in the 4th.
Jason Stanley (R-Dedham), who is challenging Rep. McMurtrey in the 11th.
And Joshua Levy (R-Needham), who is challenging Rep. Harkins, win or lose, in the 13th.

The other 10 Districts at the moment have no Challenger (Despite the fact that Rep's Mariano, Driscoll, Galvin, and Vallee would all be vulnerable Incumbents) and thus are as of today, Safe Bets for the Democrats.

At the moment, I would probably say Rep's Murphy and McMurtrey are safe as well, but Levy, and even more so for Stanton, would definetly have a shot for a pickup. Levy thanks in part to the potential for an Open Seat in Liberal Needham, and Stanton for his visibility in Conservative Walpole and the troubles of Rogers ethically of late.

"Jolly" John Rogers (0.00 / 0)
Looks like ol' Jolly John is in some seriously deep doo-doo.

I will Mr. Stanton well. Looks like the message is already written for him here.

If I could not go to Heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all. -Jefferson
