Dunkin Donuts Forms A PAC

by: Garrett Quinn

Sat Feb 20, 2010 at 17:39:41 PM EST

Has anyone seen a Dunkin Donuts restaurant close or go under? Apparently some have a tough time dealing with burdensome regulations that hurt job growth and strangle small businesses so they started a political action committee in Massachusetts. Or something.

This is not a joke.

Leveraging Our Combined Resources to Promote & Protect Your Business Interests
Created in 2010, the Dunkin' Donuts Franchise Owners MassPAC creates an opportunity for Dunkin' Donuts Franchise Owners to provide financial support to candidates for Massachusetts State office. Massachusetts is the home for over 1350 Dunkin' Donuts locations as well as Brand Central.

A robust PAC means contributions to candidates who understand small business issues and who will promote a legislative and regulatory climate favorable to small business operators.

Supporting DDFO MassPAC ensures that we can help elect candidates who support free enterprise, expand Dunkin' Donuts Franchise Owners allies and supporters on Beacon Hill by building relationships with pro-business candidates, enhance the visibility of Dunkin' Donuts Franchise Owners on Beacon Hill, promote awareness of Dunkin' Donuts Franchise Owners, and educate the legislature about the critical role of small businesses in our state economy.

if I ever run for office, I'll seek out these guys first for an endorsement! :-D

These guys could be huge (5.00 / 1)
I think that an endorsement from the PAC for Dunkin Donuts could be huge! They pride themselves on appealing to the "working man" and salt of the earth types. They are originally from MA, and they are literally everywhere. I used to work at a dunks when I was in High School and loved it.  I mean I literally have "Dunkin Donuts" specifically labeled in my personal budget for each month. Last month alone I spent $152.88 at dunks, so I know they have the money to support the max donation. (2.73 for a large black ice coffee * 2 * 7 days * 4 weeks. Also want to give a shout out to my boy Sean in Davis Sq. you are the man & Billy at the Beacon St. location next to FOX 25 kicks ass!)

I prefer DD to Starbucks by a huge amount (0.00 / 0)
...and you are right, they really are everywhere.  After Citizens United USSCT, also, they have the same free speech rights and may spend an unlimited amount.  You are correct.  DD could be a huge player.

The biggest threat to Dunkin Donuts franchise owners... (0.00 / 0)
...appears to be Dunkin Donuts, the company

And what "burdensome regulations that hurt job growth and strangle small businesses" are you talking about...?  Are you referring to the "regulation" that they can only employee US Citizens of legal aliens...is it the oppressive law that pay workers $7.15 an hour (or whatever min wage is now a days) and creating an underclass of $16,000 year workers that rely on a host of government programs such as subsidized housing and food stamps to live.  Of is it the onerous laws that robs Dunkin Donuts franchisees $300 a year per employee to help pay for health care insurance--while we the tax payers pay the rest (because you can't get water out of stone and that's what its like to get money from someone making $16 grand a year).

Sure they make good coffee, but their donuts are at best mediocre, but they're business model sucks resources out of the productive aspects of society and makes the taxpayers subsidize their business expenses.  And their wage strategy is driving the increase in illegal workers who will take the wage jobs that Americans won't take (unless you're 16).  What is so awesome about that?

Typical (0.00 / 0)
anti-businessrantings of a liberal and dishonorable liar.

Suppose someone pouring coffee should make $50k a year with a cadillac plan....in Absurdistan.

Given the indirect govt support we provide these low cost workers... (0.00 / 0)
...maybe it us costing us $50 grand.  I'm surprised you thinks it's OK for a company to pay it's workers $16,000 a year and then has govt subsidize housing, health care insurance and food stamps.   That sounds like the business plan of a liberal...not a conservative.

Let's see if your Smply Festus mind can wrap around this (0.00 / 0)
If the government didn't provide those free services driving up the cost of goods, housing, and services by subsidising them. Perhaps the person could live on 16,000 a year much easier. No?

Typical (0.00 / 0)
liberal projection....not surprising coming from a known dishonorable liar.

Market value, Dippy.  The market value of pouring coffee is $16k with shitty benefits.  Market value for one of my subordinates with a BS in biology and 2 years experience is about $45k with good benefits.

Pouring coffee is a bad career choice to make a living, dishonorable liar.

This is a positive thing. Employers must start uniting to promote a free market agenda and fight the union/statist agenda. For too long, many in the business community were hung up on social issues.
