I'm shocked!/sarc.

Damn (0.00 / 0)
The Paulist are even hijacking the straw polls now.

Ron Paul (5.00 / 2)
Because we were against big deficits, new government entitlements, and corporate bailouts when Bush was President too.

I agree (0.00 / 0)
Ron Paul gained considerable credibility since the collapse. He started building his network back in 07. He is doing it the right way through the party activists and grassroots.

This has not been an overnight move to Paul. We'll see how far he goes or expands his base.

Knock, Knock. Who's there? Reality... (5.00 / 1)
Ron Paul is never going to be POTUS.

Period.

He's already older than McCain was in 2008, and frankly, he frequently comes across as a kooky old man..

It's great that the Paulists adore him so much, but let's be clear here.

Ron Paul is never going to be President.

That's just reality.

It won't matter. (5.00 / 2)
If the GOP adopts his issue set our country will have already won.

I doubt anyone will will the GOP nomination without pledging to:
- Oppose all new entitlements.
- Oppose all bailouts.
- Oppose any new taxes.
- Oppose any Keynesian style "stimulus."
- Support auditing the federal reserve.
- Support a pro-life position on abortion.
- Support Constitutionalist judges.

...and so on.

Here's hoping.... (0.00 / 0)
...but as we have discussed many times, Mike, my issue is that many Paulists are NOT like you.

They can't separate the issue profile from the person.  It's "Ron Paul, or Bust!"

This was a Presidential Preference Poll, i.e. who they want to see as President.  It's all nice and good that Ron Paul won.  You view it as a reaffirmation of his issues.

But how many  of those 31% actually think Ron Paul can be elected President in 2012?   I would guess a fair number, and that is not a realistic proposition.

I was just pointing out the movement Paul has made. (0.00 / 0)
You gotta admire his network to pull this off at CPAC.

Hey i'm not a rabid Ron Paul guy. Never was. I look at the issue of each candidate and electability

But every candidate needs a base to start with. This poll Paul shows there is a base out there for him. Granted this is only one straw poll. Many more to come.

I still favor Romney for now. Paul still has a lot to prove. But I wouldn't count him out.

I agree with DD4RP on this one its the reaffirmation of issues here.

I hope your right Mike (0.00 / 0)
After seeing how incompetent the GOP was to nominate John McCain, the most unelectable disabled war veteran since Bob Dole, nothing would surprise me.

Do I think the party leadership would ever let Ron Paul be nominated... no

The party is dying the slow death, marching around in circles.

Ron Paul 31% - (Never be nominated)
Mitt Romney  22% - (Is the front runner)
Sarah Palin 7% - (Will cause Obama's 2nd term)
Tim Pawlenty 6% ( maybe)
Mike Pence 5%  ( congressman hence no chance)
Newt Gingrich 4% (a running joke)
Mike Huckabee 4% (another joker)
Mitch Daniels 2% ( who?)
Rick Santorum 2% ( never be nominated)
John Thune 2% (who?)
Haley Barbour 1% (who?)
Other 5%
Undecided 6%

Surprised David Kean let this happen (0.00 / 0)
Little inside secret, but this poll is rigged by campaigns every year.

Yes! (0.00 / 0)
Regardless of what happens, at least I'll get to vote for Ron Paul in one more presidential primary before I die.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

You hope.... (0.00 / 0)
...for a guy of 72, Ron Paul looks like crap.

He looks 92.

IF there is another Bilderberg selection (0.00 / 0)
process in 2012.
I am with Prof Igor Panarin myself.

Ron Paul Republicans (5.00 / 1)
If we experience stagflation or any of the economic doomsday scenarios, Ron Paul will be the only one on that list with any credibility left on the economy.  Gary Johnson is already campaigning as the Ron Paul candidate - he should have been on there.
