Greater Boston Tea Party releases statement on Brown's pending YES vote on Dodd-Frank

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Mon Jul 12, 2010 at 18:43:21 PM EDT

The Greater Boston Tea Party released the following statement on the pending yes vote on Dodd-Frank by Scott Brown.

The leadership and members of the Greater Boston Tea Party, along with tea party and conservative activists across the Commonwealth are greatly disappointed in Senator Brown's announcement that he will vote yes on the Financial Reform Bill.  After weeks of debate and a thorough investigation of the bill and its possible effects on the economy, small businesses, community banks and consumers, we are at a loss as to what redeeming qualities Senator Brown found in the bill worthy of support.

Scott Brown promised in the fall of 2009 to stand up for free markets and constitutional principles.  A yes vote on this bill  - a bill that disregards Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, greatly expands executive authority and reach, creates a perpetual and permanent bail-out system and fosters the creation of even more bureaucracy - defies the commitment he made to thousands of activists and donors across the nation who swept him in to office in January in one of the biggest political upsets of all time.

Tea party activists will continue to independently support candidates and current representatives that adhere to our constitutional principles of limited government, free markets and individual Liberty.  If Senator Brown wants our continued support, he must consider how legislation he supports upholds these principles.

Ugh. (0.00 / 0)

He will vote YES on the Dodd-Frank Bill??? Exactly what is he doing differently than Martha Coakley would have???

This is just another reason I will be voting for EARL SHOLLEY, a true, long-time conservative running against Barney Frank. We need the exact opposite of Barney, not just someone who simply disagrees with him.

Not Good. (0.00 / 0)

This is just not good.  What particularly disappointed me, was the story in the Globe on Saturday about speaking to the Governor and Senate President on Slots in Plainville for a potential vote to bring $700 million to the Commonwealth.  This, if true is another unexpected bad story.

While Disappointed With The Vote (0.00 / 0)
I still get bothered by self-appointed leaders of the "Tea Party"

The tea party is a grass roots phenomenon. I hate it when people appoint themselves leaders and issues statements like this, such statements should be disregarded.

A Yes on Dood_Frank is a NO for small business (5.00 / 1)
Well, Scott, you've done it again. When I worked in your campaign, contributed my hard earned money, and voted for you, this is not what I expected. You seem to fit right in with Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe. I've taken the Scott Brown for Senate stickers off of our two vehicles in protest. I was proud to display them for a while anyway.

Here we have in you another politician who has never run a business, made a payroll, and who lacks the understanding of what that takes.

The fact that you agree with anything proposed by Chris Dodd and Barney Frank makes me wonder about you. I hope you come to your senses, but I'm not counting on it.

How does it hurt small business? (0.00 / 0)
I nothing about the bill, so just wondering.

Small Banks Anyhow .. (0.00 / 0)
I have heard complaints from a number of the smaller community banks that this is going to place a serious strain on the smaller institutions just to remain in compliance with all of the filing requirements.
Their will be the same bulk requiremnts for community bank z as there will be for "amalgamated bank of megopolis" and proportionaly whos resources will be more put out?

W Mass Tea Party agrees (0.00 / 0)

"Scott Brown bought his ticket home today" has agreement. Mention must be made that this effects all Mass GOP insiders as they will be seen as traitors. Brown used up the "anyone but" campaign and there will be much less compromise on conservative positions, and we do check backgrounds and voting records. Especially on the far right that already had a poor opinion of the local GOP it is now much worse.

FW; "Scott's message box is full, so we have to resort to faxes or email to reach him on this financial bill.  I sswear to God if he votes for this, I will do whatever I can to see him on a slow boat to China with Kerry"

Threats and ultimatums never work (0.00 / 0)
They just make it harder for those who are trying to get a politician to change his mind.

Not a threat or ultimatum (0.00 / 0)
This is opinion within the Tea Party, it would have to be sent to Brown to be a threat or ultimatum. In my opinion, some of the messages Brown may be receiving are much worse but the majority are respectful.

Ever Once .. (0.00 / 0)
Have you ever once heard of an example where a politician has "changed his mind" after announcing a decision?
My take is that this "decision" was made long ago and the only actual deliberation that occured was related to the timing of the announcement.

Strike the King---Strike to Kill (3.00 / 1)
Barbara's right, these kind of threats, especially when huffed and puffed by the far left or far right minorities without the power to "blow the house down", so to speak. You could make it impossible for long time leaders like Barbara with a proven record of delivering a loyal constituency to be believable to a Scott Brown, who treasured her endorsement.

Can't you hear him saying "Why should I change my mind on this issue? Those tea bagger purists will still be banging me cause I didn't change it fast enough or go far enough.............I can't win with you people."

Thanks for the back-up, Startedout (0.00 / 0)
There's also a concern that someone who is threatened, but would like to change his mind, wouldn't want it to appear that he responded to the threat.

I did talk with the senator's staff today, and I don't think I'm getting anywhere with changing his mind. We need another obscure yet outrageous provision that has just been discovered. If anyone finds one, post it here!
