Veteran of many political wars and a worthy candidate.  Best Wishes.  You can do this Guy----

Jim McKenna is the Attorney General Candidate - Its a No Brainer (0.00 / 0)
I too was supporting Guy until he was no longer running.  He wasn't campaigning - no where to be seen.

I dont want a token candidate to run against Martha.

I want someone who is better qualified than she is and who is independent enough to go after all of the public and Government Corruption we have witnessed.  Enough.

In 10 days, Jim McKenna has accomplished more than many folks already running statewide.  100+ volunteers, 2600 Facebook Friends, Website, Twitter and instructions on how to vote for him on his website.

He has been all of the place.

Folks - this is the upset race of the decade.
Jim McKenna will get on the ballot - and he will upset Martha.  He's the real deal!

Good Luck Guy (5.00 / 2)
Disclosure: I am going to do whatever it takes to make Jim McKenna our nominee for Attorney General. I will have no problem with distributing both candidates stickers.

Hey, why the hell not? (5.00 / 3)
(What the world needs is a font for sarcasm in subject lines).
Instead of working to elect Congressional, governor, Senate and House candidates who actually had the foresight to get on the ballot, let's run around in circles getting 200,000 people to put stickers on ballots. You can even raise money to mail stickers to all state Republicans instead of contributing that amount to a viable existing campaign! (Then most of them will forget to take the stickers with them on primary day, if they vote at all).

Or you can pass them out at the polls, remembering to stay 150 feet away from the door, as voters walk in wide circles to avoid you or insist on asking "who is this person and why didn't he just get on the ballot earlier?" so that ten more voters walk past you while you try to answer the questions.

Now I'll ask again: has anyone out there who is pushing this cockamamie idea of a sticker campaign for AG ever worked on a sticker campaign? Has anyone EVER gotten on a statewide ballot needing 10,000 stickers? If they tried, how close did they come? I know I'm the first to say that this year is different from other years, but that just means that the things that had only a small chance to work in the past have a good chance to work this year, if we all stay focused on the prize: saving Massachusetts, saving the country.

Hey Nelly! (0.00 / 0)
As in negative. Sorry Brock, the cuss words might spill out. A little thing you may have forgotten: we're Republicans! First: we're polite folks! (Ok, not me, but I'm trying!) Secondly: You get ten Republicans in the same place, at the same time, someone called a meeting. And last, but most importantly: we're going to be out there anyways! Supporting our other candidates. So you go on supporting your candidate whats-his-name, that guy next to Jill Stein, and his wannabee democratic formerly in red clothing running mate, and let us tilt at our windmills. Have you given these pearls of wisdom to the third CD candidates. Frankly, I just don't see them beating the guy who runs around thinking he's Hillary Clinton. You know him, the guy with terrorists on his speed dial.

Sarcasm appropriate (0.00 / 0)
Still, it seems to me that McKenna could run a low-overhead sticker campaign that would not draw energy from other Republican campaigns and drum up more interest in the primaries. Then if this extreme long-shot succeeded it would be a political earthquake almost as big as the Brown election.

TWO guys running sticker for the same primary, however, is beyond ludicrous.

Difficult task (0.00 / 0)
I first heard about McKenna here on RedMass and was glad to at least have a name to write in.  Knowing nothing about him and knowing it was a long shot to get 10,000 write-ins, I was none-the-less willing to put in some effort to help get 100 people to write him in.  If other people did the same, we could possibly have a candidate to challenge Marcia in November.

Then Thursday night I met Carbone at the Greater Marlborough Tea Party meeting.  He's a hot shit and I was really impressed.  I hadn't seen anything about him prior to this but he says he has been running since early June when he met with Nassour.  I liked what he had to say and why he wants to be AG.

The dilemma is that now we have two people seeking write-in votes.  As difficult as the task was before, there's no way we will have a candidate succeed if we aren't agreed on which one we are asking people to write in.

So? (0.00 / 0)
What did you think of Sam Meas?

[ Parent ]
Thanks for back-up, Edward59 (0.00 / 0)
But I do have to ask: why would it be a political earthquake? the Brown election was big because he replaced Ted Kennedy, and because he became a vital 41st vote in the U.S. Senate. Who "out there" cares who is Massachusetts AG? Republicans have won statewide offices here recently-- and could win for Auditor and Treasurer this year -- so it's not even unusual.
I loathe Martha Coakley and would love to see her defeated for anything, but viable Republican candidates must have had reason to think it wasn't worth doing the right way or someone would be on the ballot already.

Re: Thanks for back-up, Edward59 (0.00 / 0)
A statewide sticker win (10,000 write-ins)in a primary would seem to indicate that the Republican tide was rising so high and so fast that it might just swamp any Democrat in the general.

I mean it's difficult to justify the effort if it would divert any resources away from more viable campaigns but I'm not sure it would have to.

Right now, where I live there is only one reason for me to go to the polls on September 14, and that is to choose the candidate for auditor. Other places in the State people have some interesting choices for Congress. During the Brown campaign we were trying to gauge enthusiasm by comparing the primary vote totals in pro-Brown areas to pro-Coakely areas.

Question (0.00 / 0)
Why are we now just hearing about Mr. Carbone.  Why hasn't he made his name known before now.  Now that Jim McKenna has announced and making the splash why is Mr. Carbone trying to ride the wave?

To be fair to Guy Carbone... (0.00 / 0)
...he did announce his candidacy prior to Jim McKenna.  At least that was my experience.  I received a phone call from Mr. McKenna last week or so.  I returned it after several days & I have not yet heard back from him.

As far as Guy Carbone goes, he contacted me - and the vast majority if not the entirety of the State Committee - prior to the last meeting in June.  Guy introduced himself, explained his reasons for candidacy, and noted that he would be unable to attend the upcoming meeting.  He was seeking support for an endorsement vote in his favor, under the argument of needing it to obtain ballot access.

During the State Committee meeting there was a rather heated discussion & debate upon the merits of Mr. Carbone and his endorsement request.  After 2 votes, the first by voice and the second by a show of hands, a motion to fulfill Mr. Carbone's request was denied.

Therefore, I knew of Mr. Carbone's AG sticker candidacy before I knew of Mr. McKenna's.

AG primary (5.00 / 1)
I haven't met either candidate yet, but I recently found out that Guy has been a "candidate" now for months and yet he hasn't made any press releases, has no website, no facebook, etc, and basically the only people that know are his neighbors. Like I said, I haven't met either one just yet (will soon though), but it certainly appears that Jim McKenna has put forth more of an effort on the campaign front in less than a week than Guy C has in months.

I'll hold my judgement until I meet them both, but I'm already leaning towards McKenna. We'll see.

And... its better late than never. It should be a crime to let Choakley run unopposed!!

Another One (0.00 / 0)
Guy Carbone is another classic "perennial candidate." As I said before, if we are going to lose, can't we at least lose with fresh faces? I mean, I liked Carbone when I saw him and heard him speak--which was, what, ten? fifteen years ago?

And I seem to remember he was running for AG then.

I Missed Mr. Carbone (0.00 / 0)
At the GMTP meeting last Thursday. No shit, really. And we were in the same room!

Yes Bill (0.00 / 0)
If you would have stuck around after Sam Meas spoke you would have heard Guy.  Guy stood right beside you the entire time Sam was speaking.

He Was Right Next To Me (0.00 / 0)
If I had known who he was, I would have stayed to listen. I think a candidate for office has to be just the wee bit outgoing.
There were 19 people at that meeting. I knew Millie, Sam Meas, Jack Roy, Mike Farquhar, Mike introduced me to his wife (how did that old cuss get so lucky?), Jack introduced me to the cameraman and his wife, of course everyone knows the great and powerful Eabo (nice chatting with you and Brock today), about 5 more members introduced themselves to me. But the guy running for office never said a word to me. Is he painfully shy? Doesn't like disabled people? I think you can agree I was on my best behavior that night. I really don't think I appeared threatening.

JimForAG - Jim McKenna Campaign now in full swing (0.00 / 0)

Thanks for your support.  The Jim McKenna campaign has accomplished quite a bit in its first week of operation and we have much more to do.

Some quick background on Jim:

Jim worked as a prosecutor for 10 years, gaining perspective and experience by serving in three different offices. He prosecuted public corruption and organized crime in Boston for three years while serving as an Assistant District Attorney in the Organized Crime Division of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Jim also served for six years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Worcester County District Attorney’s office, which work included two years as supervisor of the Grand Jury Unit. He began his work as a prosecutor by serving in the Civil Division of the Franklin County [Ohio] Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Just to be clear... (0.00 / 0)
...both this guy "Guy" and Jim are a day late and a dollar short.

This very informative announcement is about as much more work he was willing to do to get elected.  One sentence.

Better do better than that Rip Van Winkle.

Guy Carbone for AG? (0.00 / 0)
Good grief! Carbone is not only a perennial candidate, but he is also a perennial loser. Why in the world would anyone endorse or support his candidacy?
