Where was this picture taken?

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Wed Mar 21, 2007 at 17:19:34 PM EDT

So where was this picture taken?

Hint, it wasn't in the Middle East.  Answer after the break.

UPDATE: Video added after the break.

Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno :: Where was this picture taken?
The picture was taken at an "Anti War Rally" in Oregon.  That's right in the great ole U S of A there are people burning our brave men and women of the military in effigy. So much for the "we support the troops but not the war".

That line is total BS.  The radical left hates the military and everything it stands for.

Need to have the old blood pressure go up some more?  Follow this link for more pictures.

Hat Tip:Drudgereport

"Bye Bye GI, In Iraq you're gonna die."

Nice, real nice

"It's not just Bush, it's the soldiers too, Facist war is nothing new."

Yeah the left loves the military.

sorry for missing that this was your headline..thank you.
Thank you for your "pro American " posts. I read you on the communist blog and am frankly amazed that you haven't been stiffled and censored over there yet.... any time now..thanks again

Believe I don't like war but, (0.00 / 0)
I guess this is what you do when your bored and underemployed.

“The family does not exist for society or the state, but society and the state exist for the family.” "People have no problem trying to influence other people's children, but no one wants someone influencing their own."

Anyone notice the "terrorist" masks (0.00 / 0)
on these cowardly scumbags?

I'm down with dissent. Totally. (0.00 / 0)
But dressing like the (terrorist) enemy, burning an inverted flag, burning a US SOLDIER in effigy, and actively working toward the defeat of the US military in a war?

Well, I call that many things - but these people crossed the line from dissent back somewhere in Kansas.

I agree. (0.00 / 0)
I have no problem with dissent, but I really dislike the unqualified statements from the left.  Sure, dissent can be patriotic, depends on the situation.  Is the dissent in this case patriotic?  Magic 8-Ball says "Signs point to no."

Rock radio, if i may make a request... (0.00 / 0)
would you risk being banned on BMG by simply posting this picture on BMG and asking what they think of how the "protestors" ( terrorists) are attired. Their comments would be interesting..

These folks are the left's equivalent to... (0.00 / 0)
...those crazy Christians that protest at the funeral's of soldiers and blame their deaths on America's tolerance to gays.  Actually that is a lot wackier than the flag burners.

I'll agree with you there. (0.00 / 0)
Those people are disgusting.

Why do you imply I think it's OK? (0.00 / 0)
My point being there are whackos on both sides of the spectrum.  This picture has been used here and on other blogs to imply that all all people that oppose the war can not support the troops and are in fact flag burning extermists.  By that measure, anyone that is opposed to gay marriage should be associated with those whacko Christians who protest at the funeral of soldiers.  That of course is not the case.  Therefore people who oppose the wat should not be associated with these flag burners...wouldn't you agree?  (And if you don't agree, then you would have to agree that those opposed to gay marriage should be associated with people who protest of the funeral of soldiers.)

[ Parent ]
I have no idea what "gay marriage" has to do (0.00 / 0)
with this extremely offensive anti- American  picture of anti American communists defacing MY country's flag or the uniform of MY country's heroes. I have no idea why gays will use any forum or any topic to somehow make "gay" be the "topic".. sick of it.... friggin sick to death of it... go blather the  gay crap on another site. Most people here don't like "gays" . I'm one of them.

[ Parent ]
Lightin up (0.00 / 0)
You obviously are unable to comprehend my point--that there are gross extremes on both sides of the spectrum and that it is not fair to group all people who hold an opinion (like opposing the war) with the extremist.

Photos never lie. Or do they? (0.00 / 0)
Sure, this looks bad. But it's a tight shot. To extrapolate from this photo and say, "The radical left hates the military and everything it stands for" is just crazy.

So here's some context from The Oregonian:

An aspiring journalist, [Rachael] Palinkas snapped them during Sunday's anti-Iraq war rally and march in downtown. In one image, black-masked protesters burn a uniformed effigy of a U.S. soldier as a young girl cuddles up to her father and watches.

It didn't take long for the picture to explode in the blogosphere, with conservatives using it as reason No. 1 to oppose those who oppose the war.

"U.S. soldier burned in effigy," declared the Drudge Report on Tuesday. "What passes for an anti-war protest in Portland," huffed whackynation.com. "Brainwashing the next generation of troop-haters," said Shock & Blog.

Palinkas just wants them to stop.

"What they're doing is wrong," she said. "They're twisting my pictures and misrepresenting what happened on that day."

In the past few days, the 19-year-old mass communications major said she has learned the power of a picture. And the power of people with an agenda on the Internet.

Palinkas said she posted to her Facebook site 240 photos from the peace rally and march that reportedly drew 15,000 people. Almost all of them showed "people laughing, talking, dancing, marching" at what she called a "family-friendly" event.

"No one is linking to those photos," Palinkas said.

Palinkas attended the march with a group of college friends. Shortly before the march, she noticed that a group of about 30 black-clad people had broken away from the crowd in the South Park Blocks. Shocked to see them burning a uniformed effigy of a U.S. soldier, she started snapping photos. She also took pictures of them lighting an upside-down flag afire.

Although she is opposed to the war, "I thought what they were doing was wrong," Palinkas said. "I had never seen anything like it. That's why I took the photos."

Only 13 of the 240 images in Palinkas' Facebook album show what she describes as "the extreme fringe."

She said she has received more than 150 e-mails about the photos. After the Drudge Report posted a link, she got hate mail from people who thought she was part of the radical group. Among other things, they said, she "should be tried for treason" and should be deported. In response, she told visitors to her Facebook page, "I don't support this."

Can we please just tone down the vitriol on this site? Not everything that looks like a duck is a duck.

I had high hopes for RMG to be a place where conservative ideas could be shared and people could learn from each other. But it's turned into a BMG-bashing, knee-jerk-reacting, bile-spewing junk fest.

Look into a story a little bit before you bloviate about what you think is going on.

Thanks Kira (0.00 / 0)
Last year I was mischaracterized on my blog as someone who hated homosexuals, I had to shut it down for a week and even still I had random emails even when I asked them to stop because I was 24 weeks pregnant. People weren't even reading my posts, they just assumed I was those few individuals who go to differing places holding up vulgar signage for all I know. I actually had comments and emails from homoseuxals, who even though disagreed with me realize my goal was not to hurt them. They defended me and asked other commenters to stop and first READ.

I suppose these ducks are not ducks (0.00 / 0)
It's time that American's know that communist front groups are the lead sponsors of the Anti-War movement.  I guess the pictures on this site are of ducks that are not ducks as well?

Here are a couple to show you Kira.

Do you actually believe that the radical left (0.00 / 0)
likes the military? or for that matter even tollerates it? Their record of hatred of all things military pretty much speaks for itself..their "exhibitions" at protests ( like this one) all over the country...their all out efforts to ban military recruiting at colleges and high schools.

If you've ever worn a service uniform as I did for 6 years and was spit upon by some piece of garbage like these cretins , then you'd know what I was talking about. I have absolutely ZERO tollerance for creatures like these

Yes! It's a duck!

When the left denounces these people and A.N.S.W.E.R. the radical communist group responsible for sponsoring many of the Anti-War rallies then I will not put the picture up.  Until then, the picture serves a purpose.

Eabo, I respectfully disagree. (0.00 / 0)
BMG is in my opinion, a very closed minded , incredibly intollerant site that does not permit dissenting views .
Let's call"a spade a spade", shall we? Let's put the real differences between "conservative" and "liberal" on the table.
After all, this is the "free speech" site is it not? The "real" first ammendment site? The one where even the left wing communists can come here and say what they want to without being "deleted" by some politically correct censor?

The truth is that the  liberal site is dominated by homosexual gay rights activists who "goose step  in "lock step" and absolutely DO NOT tollerate anything but "THEIR VIEW". There is nothing "open minded" about their site , whatsoever.
What's truly great about the "RED MASS" site is that anybody can express their opinion without fear of "censorship". That's what the true America is all about.
No fear of some "gay lawyer" who censors the "web site" objecting to what you have to say.
Time and again, conservative republicans have been accused of not standing up for their position and what they think is right... this is my humble attempt to rectify that...
Eabo, you are the "gate keeper" here. You can let this statement stand or if you choose, delete it to appease the BMG crowd and all those that think "political correctness" is more important than free speech.

Ted (0.00 / 0)
You are confusing the ownership of BMG with posters.  I have never been banned on BMG by the ownership of the site.  I've talked, via email, with the owners of the site and they are very open minded.  They don't agree with me on a lot of issues  but they are open minded.

As long as you don't go over there insulting people, which I don't, you'd be fine.  Now others may insult you, but I've got a pretty thick skin.

Personal Experience (0.00 / 0)
Kira, one final thing.  Your comments have been eating at me all weekend.

I wanted to share with you my experience at an anti-war rally.  This was the first Anti-War rally, sponsored by A.N.S.W.E.R.(a communist front organizaton) in Boston right around the start of the Iraq liberation.  At that time protestors got into the face of a wheel chair bound disabled Vietnam Veteran from the veterans homeless shelter, who was counter-protesting with me.  When they ran out of logical things to say to him, they called him a baby-killer.  And their friends all laughed and cheered.

So for you to tell me that the left loves the military I have a hard time believing it.  Based on personal experience and what I've read.  It's like John Kerry coming back from Vietnam and accusing his fellow soldiers of war-crimes.

Look (0.00 / 0)
All I was trying to do was point out that the way the photo was characterized misrepresented the majority of those at the rally. Sure, communists and anarchists hate the US military. But liberals don't necessarily go that far, as my family members who are Marines and hate what our government is doing in Iraq would tell you.

The extreme left will demonize veterans just as easily as the extreme right will demonize veterans by protesting at funerals.

That doesn't mean that everyone who opposes the war is a communist or radical. It doesn't mean that everyone who is to the left of Bush is unpatriotic.

[ Parent ]
And Conservatives have repeatedly called the Westboro Baptist Church on the Carpet (0.00 / 0)
Conservatives have repeatedly called the Westboro Baptist Church to the carpet for their actions at funerals.  In a very public manner.  Where is the same outrage.  Many progressives, who I would not characterize as communists, go to rallies sponsored by A.N.S.W.E.R. By attending the rallies you are endorsing their message.

I don't see mainstream conservatives grabbing a placard at a Westboro Baptist Church protest.

Why didn't those at the rally do something about it? (0.00 / 0)
Don't you find creatures like that abhorrent and unnaceptable?
Why doesn't the left object to such unspeakable behaviour? As I recall the "funeral protestors" were soundly denounced and driven off ( physically) by conservatives. Why didn't the "lefties" show this kind denouncement when these communists appeared in their midst? with terrorist masks on? burning our flag and the uniform of the marines you claim are your relatives? As long as you tollerate such behaviour at your "rallies" you are no better than they are.

On the Update (0.00 / 0)

The video describes them as anarchists, not the left.

It seems they were there to disrupt the protest itself.

Real live trolls it seems.

“The family does not exist for society or the state, but society and the state exist for the family.” "People have no problem trying to influence other people's children, but no one wants someone influencing their own."

Renee, if they are not a "subset of the left" (0.00 / 0)
and are "stand alone anarchists",why do we NEVER see them at a so called "right wing" rally?

[ Parent ]
because they're cowards (0.00 / 0)
If they did that let's say during Veteran's Day honor, you would have 80 year old men kicking their behinds.

“The family does not exist for society or the state, but society and the state exist for the family.” "People have no problem trying to influence other people's children, but no one wants someone influencing their own."

[ Parent ]
But NO reaction from "left wing" (0.00 / 0)
members at such a "left wing"  rally?.. in other words, approval by a lack of action
My point exactly. You WON'T see an 80 year old kicking their behinds at a left wing rally because they approve of such a disgrace by reason of their lack of any action against it.

[ Parent ]
Well said Ted K's Liver (0.00 / 0)
The military gets shit on by the left. period.  And this is just another fine example of it.

burning a soldier in effigy, real nice guys, real nice.

Yeah Renee

Nice try.......

Blame it on the Anarchists

Well I would of loved the irony.. (0.00 / 0)
if the peace protestors used physical force to prevent them from disrupting the rally. The left doesn't realize that some things are worth defending. The enemy doesn't care about peace, and if the left want to have a party in the name of peace rather then defending the nation that allow us to live as a safe civilized society, then the enemy will take advantage of their misguided ideals.

Believe I shake my head at individuals who call themselves progressive, they claim to have values, yetthey value nothing. Since they value nothing, they don't see a reason to sacrifice themselves for anything.
