| It's time to rally round the flag of freedom...
June 28, 2012 -- Westford, MA - Republican Congressional candidate Tom Weaver, a former Navy officer, small manufacturing business owner and pro veterans' issues advocate, today denounced the Supreme Court decision to uphold President Obama's sweeping Health Care legislation in a narrow 5-4 ruling.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, which said that the Commerce Clause of the Constitution does not give Congress the authority to require people to have health care but other parts of the Constitution did. The court's ruling upheld the law's central provision- a requirement that all people have health insurance.
"Now the real work starts. What does Congress do? The Supreme Court has made many bad decisions in the past, so it is up to the Legislative Branch to repeal the legislation in its entirety, if they take the lead," said Weaver.
"The healthcare law was upheld because the Supreme Court says that the government can tax us, anytime and anywhere. The healthcare law was upheld because the Supreme Court used a "living and breathing" Constitution to interpret the law," Weaver said. "If we continue on this path, Justice Ginsburg will have her ideal 1,000 page South African constitution, versus that simple four page document that demands that government protect our rights of freedom," says Weaver.
The Constitution protects and guards our freedom; not only from foreign invaders, but also from within. It was never intended to give unlimited power to the federal government.
"Yet, with the Supreme Court upholding the healthcare law, the Court has said that the government can destroy our freedom through unlimited taxation. The Court has said that unemployment can grow due to the cost of business rising and employers reducing staff to maintain profits. The Court has said that fundamental rule of law has a new definition," Weaver remarked.
"We have less than 135 days to fix this or we will forever change this country. We have an election on November 6th. If we do not unite and replace the Executive Branch with individuals that recognize the greatness of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, we will be forfeiting liberty and freedom for all the generations to come," said Weaver. "We need to elect Representatives and Senators who demand Constitutional Law within the framework of Original Intent." Or we will be witnessing the loss of the greatest Nation in the history of the world, a Nation "conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal," Weaver said.
Tom Weaver is a Navy Veteran and Eagle Scout; Weaver is married with 6 children and resides in Westford, Massachusetts.
