Republican Caucus stands united against spending

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Fri Jul 27, 2012 at 06:36:27 AM EDT

For the first time this session, the Massachusetts Republican Caucus unanimously voted no on a spending bill, HR4324.  All 33 members, the board was solid red from Jones to Wong.  Here's the pic to prove it.

Here's to a session in the future, where this is the norm, not an anomaly.

A spending bill for... what? (0.00 / 0)
It kind of matters what the spending was for....

1. To immunize children against measles?
2. To build a mausoleum for Deval Patrick?
3. Other?

Yes, I could look it up, but I come to RMG to be lazy.

Supp budgets (0.00 / 0)
I have to say, that the majority party is great at bundling a whole bunch of things you'd prefer not to fund with some things that you really want to fund.  An example is the supp budget that came out after the tornado damage.  The tornado relief was $10M I believe, and the bloat was another 3-4X that.

But who in good conscience can vote against tornado relief?

It puts us in an untenable situation and amendments to reduce bloat regularly fail on nearly party line votes.

A humble suggestion (0.00 / 0)
Someone in leadership should file an amendment to strip the funding for the non-controversial portion of the spending bill.  I.e. tornado funding.  Insist on a roll call.  Then you can vote against stripping the funding, in effect voting for the funding.  Then in good conscience vote against the final bill for the other things.
