Five Things you should know today, August 1, 2012

1. Welcome back party for Joe Sheehan

Red Mass Group is organizing a welcome back gathering for Spc. Joseph Sheehan, ANG at the Red Hat on Thursday August 2, 2012 at 6:00 PM.  Feel free to stop by.  We'll be upstairs.

Here's the Facebook Invite https://www.facebook.com/event...

2. Session ends with a flurry of activity

Formal legislative sessions ended yesterday with a flurry of activity.  Bills flew out of committees and bounced back and forth between the chambers.  Including a bill to ask Congress to gut the First Amendment to the Constitution, by passing a constitutional amendment to gut the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.

3. Have any lawmakers received grants of immunity?

Red Mass Group is hearing rumors that at least one lawmaker, formerly in leadership, may have been offered immunity to talk with the grand jury.  Is anybody else hearing that?

4. Humor in the small things

As the clock strikes 9PM in the House, the rules state that a roll call vote must be taken in order to meet past that time.  This is always a party line vote, the GOP always votes no as a unified block.  Last evening two representatives, one who likes Skeets and the other from the Cape, gave the chamber a chuckle as they kept changing their vote right up until the end.  As their lights vacillated from red to green gasps and cheers rang out in the chamber.

5. Videographers beware, when compiling a video about America, use scenes from America

The Scott Brown campaign is seemingly the victim of some rushed videography.  It seems that in his wildly popular "Let America be America Again" video there are some scenes places not America.  The stock footage used was shot in foreign countries.  Let this serve as a warning to budding videographers, when making a video about America, please try to confirm where the footage was shot.
