Five Things you should know today, August 20, 2012

1. Legislative Fundraising Period Ends

Yesterday marked the end of the first legislative fundraising period of the year for Massachusetts.  Pre-Primary reports are due by August 29, 2012.  Today marks the start of the 48 hour reporting period.  Whereby you need to report every $500.00 donation.  That is what passes for ethics reform in Massachusetts.

Now you may be thinking to yourself, but that's good every $500 donation must be reported.  That way no late money can swing an election.  You'd be right except that's all that needs to be reported, the maximum donation of $500.  What doesn't need to be reported?  A donation of $499.99.  Ah the Massachusetts Legislature.  Paragon of transparency.

2. Bruce Tarr to release statement on Karin Rhoton

Based on the reporting in the Eagle Tribune this weekend that Bruce Tarr declined to endorse Karin Rhoton, Tarr's public relations firm told Red Mass Group that a statement will be forthcoming today.  Stsy tuned...

3.  Baker's ringing endorsement of Rhoton

Charlie Baker, at the same event as Bruce Tarr, gave a ringing endorsement of Karin Rhoton, according to the Eagle Tribune

Baker told the crowd at the China Blossom that Rhoton, who recently completed a three-year term on the North Andover School Committee, will be an "absolutely fabulous representative."

"She is a doer," he said of Rhoton, who worked in Baker's campaign for governor. He also said Rhoton will be "rock solid" on fiscal issues" and will "hold the line on spending." Rhoton said if she is elected, she will work for "open and transparent government." Currently, a conference committee of six legislators - three senators and three representatives - puts together the annual state budget, she said. "They go in and close the doors," she said, noting that the Open Meeting Law that governs local boards, such as schools committees and selectmen, does not apply to the Great and General Court of the Commonwealth.

4. Tim Murray is gonna rack up some miles today

According to the Daily Schedule released by State House News Service, the only person in State Government who is seemingly working today is LG Tim Murray.  Murray's schedule starts at 7 AM on a train ride to Framingham then takes him to Somerville, Worcester, and Westfield.

5. Why Mitt Romney is going to win.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  Well here's one that says why Mitt Romney is going to win this thing.  Historically Democratic voters have finally woken up to the fact that is the policies that their party supports that have killed the economy and their jobs.  Here's Romney in Coal Country.

#5... (0.00 / 0)
that's what happens when you tell a large group of workers that you are going to end their entire industry.....and hence, their livlihoods.

While their Union claims they are "sitting this one out"...their $$$ will end up in Democratic hands.

...but the votes of the workers will speak loudly.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard
