If you've had trouble getting to Red Mass Group today, its because of Anonymous, the super-hacker group. They targeted GoDaddy, and, according to ZDNet.com, half of the web with it. Including Red Mass Group which doesn't use GoDaddy for hosting, but does use it as a registrar. The attack affected GoDaddy's DNS engine, which affected websites and email services where GoDaddy is the registrar. My company's email has been sporadic most of today.
GoDaddy, the domain registrar and Web hosting firm, has suffered major outages today, taking potentially millions of sites down with it.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. ET, @GoDaddy took to Twitter to say: "Status Alert: Hey, all. We're aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We're working on it."
The cause and the true scale of the outage is unknown. Many customers and users have taken to social networking sites, such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, to complain that the sites they operate or are trying to access are not loading. Some are complaining that their email communications are affected, such as individual email accounts and servers.
A member associated with the hacktivist Anonymous collective has claimed responsibility for the 'attack.'
While you didn't get to read some commentary and such, this had a real negative affect on our economy. It remains untold how many orders were missed across the economy due to slow email. That has real affects on people's bottom lines. I was able to call my clients to see if they had tried to send me an email, but if you didn't know about the down-time this caused you might not have.
It's amazing how reliant on technology we have all become. |
