Obama, The Media, & The Media's "Rape Of Reality"

by: The Angelic One

Mon Sep 17, 2012 at 09:45:56 AM EDT

Town Hall contributing columnist Derek Hunter calls out the mainstream media's "rape of reality" on its latest dereliction of duty with regards to investigating President Barack Obama's response to the recent assaults against US embassies:

I am here to report a rape. To protect President Obama from the failure of his administration to anticipate or respond appropriately to the attacks on our embassies in the Middle East, the media has absolutely raped the truth.

Americans were targeted and murdered by radical monsters around the globe. The president did nothing about it. The White House had at least a 48-hour advance warning this was coming. It told no one. It didn't warn the diplomats or increase security at the embassies. It didn't warn the complicit governments - and they are as involved in this as the mobs and murderers themselves - of potential consequences.

And when the attacks were over? The president took all of one hour of out of his busy fundraising/campaign schedule to address this matter. Then, it was off to Las Vegas and back to his rich friends to shake the money maker.

The media's spin will work on idiots, but the rape of reality can't and won't work on anyone with more IQ points than teeth. People, Americans, YOU, need to spend time every day between now and the election talking to anyone with at least one working ear who hasn't yet decided how to vote and explain to them what is really happening. Donating money is great. Planning to vote yourself is key. But spreading the word to those open to hearing it and making sure they cast an educated vote is crucial.

Sycophantic Media (0.00 / 0)
Michael Knox Beran of National Review Online posits in his latest NRO column that the media's sycophantic regard for Obama will not only further degrade its professional status but will also "trivialize" the 2012 election - & the country itself.

And Your Point Is...? (0.00 / 0)
That there's media sycophants for Romney as there are for Obama? Duly noted. The only difference is that right now Obama is an incompetent president whose policies regarding the Muslim world have gone up in the same flames that have reduced the American flags at the embassies in Egypt & Libya to ashes. Rather than hold him & his administration accountable, the media is encouraging viewers to look the other way & blame a low grade film trailer for the chaos that now engulfs the region. Hey. Ho. Way. To. Go. Obama.

This post proves Rick Santorum's theory perfectly. (0.00 / 0)

Rick Santorum: Conservatives Will Never Have "Smart People On Our Side"

WASHINGTON, DC — Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked the media and "smart people" for not being on the side of conservatives in a speech to the Values Voter Summit on Saturday.

"We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country," Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel. "We will never have the elite, smart people on our side."

At least he got THAT right.

How So? (5.00 / 1)
Santorum was neither sarcastic nor facetious in his comments so therefore one takes him at his word that he prefers the company of ignorant people over smart people. He ignores smart people such as National Review founder William F. Buckley, Jr. If other social conservatives like him follow suit, the Republican Party will shrink into irrelevance. Santorum represents a disturbing trend within the GOP that it's better to shut off one's brain & blindly follow leaders more than happy to bark out orders than it is to educate oneself & question authority. Not all social conservatives support Santorum's observation; in fact, some of them argue that it's important for conservatives in general & Republicans in particular to make serious inroads into those elite areas dominated by liberals/Democrats/Socialists such as the academies, think tanks, Hollywood, et al. If conservatives/Republicans accept Santorum's fatalism that our side will never have "smart people" & won't even bother to try to cultivate such people, then the party - if not the movement - will wind up in the ash heap of history.

But I thought when reality is raped... (5.00 / 1)
...the mind shuts that whole thing down and nothing happens.  I know that's what happens when I listen to Rush Limbaugh.

Seriously, what kind of metaphor is "rape of reality"?  At the very best it is a silly and cheap illusion designed to draw in a reader.  At it's worse, it is completely insenstive to real victims of this violent act, as it equates this crime to literally prose.  Angel, I'm surprise and disappointed that you got sucked into this tactic.

As to addressing any substance, there were plenty of conservatives that  rushed to the defense of W. for ignoring months of far more definitive intelligence reports predicting a massive terrorist attack on American soil by Bin Laden, just prior to 9/11.  W.'s people ignored scores of warnings over months and defenders said it was difficult to get a clear picture of the future based on vague reports.  Yet, the administration gets one report 48 hrs prior to the mod attack, and suddenly the President is irresponsible.  This is the real rape of truth...and Angel, you are showing your partisan hypocrisy here.  Frankly, I'm not surprised, given your attempt to commit voter fraud by trying to vote in a community you no longer live on.  I once thought you had integrity, but the few times you have peeked back into MA, you have really sunk to a moral low.  And just to be clear...I was once known as Festus.

And I love this line from the article... (1.67 / 3)
"The media's spin will work on idiots"...it fits well with the new video out that catches Mitt offering disdain for 47% of Americans that will vote for Obama and are dependent for food and health care from others.

But this writer and Mitt are showing the true hatred the rightwing shows for there fellow americans.

But don't let THAT stop you from wallowing in left-wing hatred, my man!

"Reunited, And It Feels So Good...." Well, At Least It Used To! (0.00 / 1)
Hey Festus! Que pasa, my man! Long time, no communicado! Oh, wait. That's right. You hate me now. I can't be nice to you.

As an artist who appreciates both the traditional & the modern, I have no problem with Hunter's use of "rape of reality" as a metaphor for the larger point he was making. And as the person who rightly defended the First Amendment rights of the creative team who made the classic film satire,"The Life Of Brian", I'm surprised at your knee-jerk reaction to censor a writer who sought, in your words from another yet similar topic, to "provoke discussion". By your critical yardstick regarding rape, American society should ban "Clockwork Orange", "Death Wish", Straw Dogs", "The Accused", The Virgin Spring", & so forth. By that kind of critical yardstick, you sound more like the right-wing Santorum than the (old) left-wing Festus.

No surprise there, though. The extremes at both ends of the political spectrum share a LOT in common which is why normal people (& even us creative free spirits) abhor them. The media have shown the public that most of its acolytes will sacrifice America's First Amendment rights in order to appease our enemies and curry favor with powerful people like Obama.

Regarding Bush & 9/11 - hey when you're right, you're right! Bush fucked up by not taking Clinton's warnings about Bin Laden seriously just as Clinton fucked up when he had several opportunities to take down Bin Laden - & choked. On THAT score, Obama got it right & power to him for taking out the man who planned, carried out, & exulted over the deaths of thousands of our fellow Americans. But Obama's pivot towards the Muslim world as a way to ingratiate himself to it has been a disaster & last week's debacle underscores the failure of this part of his foreign policy. Blaming a grade Z video for the riots (without asking WHO continues to fan these flames as the video goes viral) is standard operating procedure for someone like Obama who wants the public to be distracted from the fruit of his failures.

As for the personal invectives you've thrown at me.... Well, the Festus I thought I knew had a little more class when we sparred back in the day. I'm sad to see that he's gone but I'm not surprised. Modern liberalism as defined by the New Left has morphed into a quasi-religion that instills a burning rage in the breasts of its adherents even as it lobotomizes them, leaving them brain dead & incapable of being free citizens in a constitutional republic. I'm holding out hope that the Old Left will soon wake up & prevent its rivals from destroying the Democrat Party, destroying our constitutional republic, & destroying our country. I was hoping you'd be a part of that noble struggle -  but alas! - you sound like you're now part of the New Left Borg. Farewell, O Blogger Formerly Known As Festus! May heavenly angels sing thee to thy rest!

Where do I call for censoring this writer... (0.00 / 0)
...just exercising my free speech to express my opinion about his word usage.

In terms of the personal invectives...hey it's been a while and we had fun.  But you did step in some big doo-doo that appears to have crossed a legal line or two when it comes to voting and when you get all haughty about moral superiority (vs Obama or the vast New Left's quasi-religion) it's a bulls-eye target that is hard to resist.  So while I appreciate your rhetorical flair, given the moral glass house you occupy, you may want to tone down the holier than thou spiel.

Are you just visiting from RI, or hear to stay?
