Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno :: Kiowa Tribe Member on Elizabeth Warren's "Shockingly Offensive" Behavior
Transcript:

My name is Cole DeLaune. I am a proudly enrolled member of the Kiowa tribe, and a Native of Oklahoma. Like many voters today, I am an ideological independent frustrated with the partisan gridlock in Washington. I rooted for Hillary Clinton in 2008, and have supported candidates from both political parties during the current election cycle.

Recently, Senator Scott Brown incurred criticism for remarks he made during the first debate in the Massachusetts Senate race. However his words have been decontextualized and mischaracterized, they pale in comparison to the shockingly offensive conduct of his opponent, Professor Elizabeth Warren, since late April. In defending claims of Native American heritage that remain unsubstantiated to this day, Professor Warren said in early May that she has, "high cheekbones. . . like all the Indians do." Clearly, the professor has no problem with invoking external signifiers of race or reductive superificial stereotypes whenever they bolster her dishonest narrative.

However, one of the most important and alarming aspects of this controversy has remained largely overlooked. Since her decades-long history of ethnic self identification first came to light in late spring, Professor Warren has refused to speak to Native American newspapers and websites, including Indian Country Today, the largest Native news outlet in the nation. She rebuffed attempts by Indian delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte to establish lines of communication. Additionally, she accused four liberally inclined Cherokee women who traveled across the country to Boston to request an audience with her of advancing a Republican conspiracy. Generally speaking, when a person so deliberately and repeatedly refuses to engage with members of a specific minority group, we call such behavior racist and prejudicial. African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, LGBT men and women, Catholics, and members of other cultural communities should wonder exactly how Professor Warren will advocate for their interests in the Senate when she treats the members of the community to which she says she is so "proud" to belong with such contempt and disdain.

Native Americans understand that Elizabeth Warren is no friend of ours, and we also realize that every earnest progressive should be appalled by her behavior and refuse to legitimize it come November. I'm a proud Native American, and I'm proud to support Scott Brown for the United States Senate.

If you want to talk racism, Elizabeth Warren is guilty as charged.

I wish (0.00 / 0)
he'd read that statement at about half the speed.

Interesting. I wonder what he thinks of this? (0.00 / 0)

The current chief of the Cherokee Nation had this to say:

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief denounces offensive actions by Sen. Scott Brown staffers

The Cherokee Nation is disappointed in and denounces the disrespectful actions of staffers and supporters of Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown. The conduct of these individuals goes far beyond what is appropriate and proper in political discourse. The use of stereotypical "war whoop chants" and "tomahawk chops" are offensive and downright racist. It is those types of actions that perpetuate negative stereotypes and continue to minimize and degrade all native peoples.

The individuals involved in this unfortunate incident are high ranking staffers in both the senate office and the Brown campaign. A campaign that would allow and condone such offensive and racist behavior must be called to task for their actions.

The Cherokee Nation is a modern, productive society, and I am blessed to be their chief. I will not be silent when individuals mock and insult our people and our great nation.

We need individuals in the United States Senate who respect Native Americans and have an understanding of tribal issues. For that reason, I call upon Sen. Brown to apologize for the offensive actions of his staff and their uneducated, unenlightened and racist portrayal of native peoples.

-Bill John Baker, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation

I wonder what Bill John Baker thinks of someone that falsely claims to be a Cherokee to get an affirmative action position in an Ivy League school.

That would be interesting (0.00 / 0)
I'm sure if it ever actually happens in the real world, he'll offer an opinion on it!

Problem is (5.00 / 1)
in the real world, this happened for a current candidate for the United States Senate.
See, in a time of hyperdiversity...when people like the current President of the United States were actively protesting Harvard Law School for their sheer lack of diversity....their lack of women and minority law professors.
Harvard chose to get the double-whammy in hiring a female minority named Elizabeth Warren.....a native American female who went to a 3rd tier law school.  They then were able to claim in federal EOC filings that they had a native American woman as a professor......making EVERYONE happy in the matter.

Until she chose to run for a seat in the United States Senate.....

In Absurdistan, none of that ever happened.

Now prove it

I don't have to. (0.00 / 0)
The truth needs no defense.  That's exactly what happened and everyone but Lizzy lapdogs know it.....even when they're posting DNC delegate's selective outrage.
Stick with the faux outrage...

Interesting. (5.00 / 2)
Chief Billy here just so happens to be a DELEGATE TO THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION

Not all Democrats get to attend the Democratic Nation Convention to nominate the party's presidential candidate. Even fewer get to announce his or state's delegates vote during the convention's roll call. However, Principal Chief Bill John Baker got to do both during this year's DNC held Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C.

Baker said he represented the Cherokee Nation in his official capacity and that during the vote to re-nominate President Barack Obama for president, he announced Oklahoma's vote.

"I was honored to attend the convention as principal chief of the Cherokee Nation and on behalf of the Cherokee Nation's federal interests," Baker said. "To stand on a national stage as principal chief of the Cherokee Nation and cast my delegate vote for President Obama on behalf of the state of Oklahoma helped shine the national spotlight on the Cherokee Nation."

Somehow, Baker's selective outrage doesn't surprise me one bit.

Hadn't Elizabeth Warren already shined the spotlight on the Cherokee Nation?

The problem with letting talk radio define the issues in this campaign (5.00 / 1)
is that things usually turn out badly for conservatives and, in turn, the state GOP ticket. Excuse the pun but banging the drum on Professor Warren's heritage and whatever benefits she might have derived from same is becoming stale and a major distraction. Led by Legal Insurrection, RMG is leading the ticket down a rabbit hole. The heritage issue is now throwing the Brown campaign off message./ Is that what everyone around here wants?

Believe it or not the issue has run its course. The Suffolk University Political Research Center poll is especially illuminating on this issue. When asked if they knew about Elizabeth Warren and her Native American heritage,79% of the respondents said they did. Only 20% did not. More importantly when SUPRC asked likely voters if they believe Professor Warren benefited "by listing herself as a minority hire", 55% of respondents said THEY DID NOT BELIEVE SHE BENEFITED, a more than 20 point spread (55-32%).

This is not what voters are interested in folks. They are interested in other matters. To wit, when SUPRIC raised one of the Warren camps favorite meme's that Senator Brown is "one of Wall Street's favorite senators", the likely Massachusetts voter by a 55% to 34% margin said THEY DID NOT BELIEVE SENATOR BROWN was in Wall Street's pocket.

On both questions 11 percent were undecided.

There is a tendency among conservatives to live in a cocoon, which creates an alternative to reality. Much of the Senate race hinges on economic issues which as the Senator demonstrated in his debate last week, the GOP is capable of winning on even here in MA. By discounting the Native American controversy most MA voters are signaling for a more substantial debate in the race for U.S. Senate.
The independents are not going to be moved on this issue.

I agree this is now a distraction - stop (0.00 / 0)
and it is  getting absurd, but Warren's representation  of LTV steel - completely breaks her narrative of being for the little guy - this is the issue.

[ Parent ]
Good issue (0.00 / 0)
for Browns surrogates to hammer, but we need to keep this away from his lips.  Brown needs to focus on economic issues and his work in congress, while maintaining his liability.

Let the attack dogs do the attacking, otherwise the campaign gets off message and will start having to answer for the change in focus...

pretty much politics 101...

Just wait (0.00 / 0)
for the next debate and use it like a jab when she's pimping herself as "for the little guy"....as in, he doesn't have to make it his platoform for it to be useful.
