Five Things you should know today October 4, 2012

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Thu Oct 04, 2012 at 07:51:37 AM EDT

1. David Kravitz still hasn't weighed in on law license controversy

Former SCOTUS law clerk, and current Blue Mass Group blogger, David Kravitz still has not weighed in on Elizabeth Warren practicing law in Massachusetts without a law license.

2. Romney absolutely destroyed the President

It wasn't even close folks.  I for one did not think Mitt Romney had that in him.  Or maybe its just so easy to utterly destroy the presidents lackluster performance at the helm of this nation, that anybody could have done it?  But Mitt Romney was on his game last night.  He looked presidential, he sounded presidential, he acted presidential and destroyed Obama with the facts.

The line of the night from me was, you spent 50 years of the so called "tax breaks" for big oil on green energy.  That was a home run.

Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno :: Five Things you should know today October 4, 2012
3. Blue Mass Group: Romney Won but hey it didn't move the polls in the 30 seconds after the debate

Our good friend David, over at BMG, while not finding the time to talk about Warren's committal of a misdemeanor, did opine on the aftermath of the debate.

The consensus on both sides seems pretty clear: in terms of debating points, Romney won the night.  The snap polls say so, left-leaning pundits say so, even kos of Daily Kos says so.  I couldn't watch most of it, but I don't see much difference of opinion on the question of who brought their "A" game and who didn't.

That said, a couple of themes are emerging.  First - and this is quite important - the same snap poll that shows that Romney won the night by a whopping 67-25 also showed that the favorable/unfavorable numbers did not move for either candidate.  If that holds up, it is terrible news for Romney, because he desperately needs to turn those numbers around to have any realistic shot at winning.  Romney's unfavorable rating has consistently exceeded his favorable (while the reverse is true of Obama), and that is a deadly place to be in October.  No candidate since at least 1980 has been upside-down in fav/unfav at this point in the race and come out a winner.

It's hard to be a defender of this President, you almost have to feel for the guy.

4. Will Bobby Valentine last until noon?

Our long national Red sox Nation nightmare is over.  The season has ended.  Now the Bobby V watch begins...

Will Valentine last until noon as the manager?

5. Job's commission full of same old big government recommendations

A state commissioned jobs report is full of the same old Keynesian economic policies that have killed jobs in Massachusetts.  The Lowell Sun reports.

Legislators are praising a report calling for targeted job training and infrastructure investment. But they warn it could cost taxpayers more money to turn those recommendations into reality.

"Wonderful proposal, lots of work, but we need the old-fashioned green stuff (money) to make a lot of this work," said Rep. Jim Miceli, a Democrat from Wilmington, after the release Wednesday of the Legislature's Job Creation Commission report.

Whatever heappened to getting out of the way?

Luntz group (0.00 / 0)
David at BMG said the instant polls didn't move. Well, he obviously didn't see the spots for Luntz's group that showed 24 undecided voters, 13 or whom voted for Obama last time, all say how impressed they were with Romney. Of the 2008 Obama supporters, eight said they will vote for Romney, 1 said Obama and the rest are still undecided.

Regarding the line of the night: (0.00 / 0)
My favorite Romney line was when he said to bam bam, "Look, you're entitled to your plane and you're entitled to your house, but you're not entitled to your own facts."

Got it beat....for me, at least... (0.00 / 0)
"You put $90 billion into green energy. I'm all for green energy but you could have hired two million teachers with that money."

BAM!!  Hit 'im where he sits confidently with that smug smirk on his face.

Teachers, though? (0.00 / 0)
Seemed like pandering, or an obvious touche rhetorical point, like we are supposed to believe Romney would have hired teachers?? If he means those extra teachers are worth borrowing form China, then I disagree, we should I think it's better to hire people to renovate houses and work on railbeds and wind and solar projects. Granted most of it was wasted, but hopefully there are some houses that are better insulated, some railways that are better maintained, some advances in wind and solar. Even if most was wasted on do-nothing workers, it got spent over here somehow, I'd rather do-nothing workers outside working on needed stuff than in schools indoctrinating students into liberalism.

[ Parent ]
Did (0.00 / 0)
you even watch it?

It was a snipe at Obama saying HE wants to hire 100,000 teachers, nothing more.  Note:  he says YOU could hire...not "I would've hired"

I'd rather the government limit itself to its Constitutionally authorized spending.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
Oh OK (0.00 / 0)
That's pretty much my point. He tried to have it both ways, implying he'd have hired more teachers by saying "you could have hired more teachers" but actually he wouldn't do that.

Oh, and "provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States" certainly covers projects to conserve fossil fuels, which we are going to run out of as a country all at once and is a national priority. Threats don't only come from foreign powers, they also come from environmental and social problems that can harm the whole country.

Clause 1 (0.00 / 0)
is the taxing clause....not a spending clause of any kind until the last 80 years.  The Fonders would revolt against your bastardized version.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
Wrong, they wanted a Union and cared about the General Welfare (0.00 / 0)
The founders wanted the federal government to provide for the common defense and the general welfare of the United States. They knew that there would be new threats to the country besides foreign powers, and new national needs besides the list they started with in Section 8. For example, the FCC, the FDA, the EPA, these are all things that weren't important until about 80 years ago.

Your position is just stupid. We are a country, and we wouldn't hamper our ability to contend with important national issues by requiring a constitutional amendment for every federal law that we need. What a dumb thing that would have been, and they weren't dumb. They "reserved" other powers to the states, so that states would still be responsible for them and couldn't demand the federal government do them for them. But the word "reserved" implies a "for now" not a "forever", just as reserving a table at a restaurant doesn't make a permanent reservation that lasts forever, just a temporary one until they decide to give the table to someone else.

Do you (0.00 / 0)
understand how much of a raving lunatic you are?

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
As in, you loon.... (0.00 / 0)
Note to the casudal RMG reader:  This is to benefit only those that maty wander in here and be miseducated by the incorrect rantings of this lunatic.

a)  the FCC, FDA, and EPA weren't important until about 80 years ago because the "general welfare" clause didn't exist until "about 80 years ago"

b)  We don't require a Constitutional Amendment for every federal law that we need....that's just JHoward here lying about me.  We require a Constitutional Amendment for every NEW POWER that the States or the People want to GIVE to the federal government....like...the power to define what a state must call "marriage"

c)  The term "reserved" means one thing...."kept by"....those powers not given TO the federal government BY the People/States...THROUGH ratification and Amendment of the Constitituion....are KEPT BY the States or the People...."kept by" because they keep these powers until they "give" them to the Feds........not kept "forever".....kept until a time arises that the People or States see fit to GIVE the federal government new powers by passing an Amendment, as the Constitution dictates.  This lunatics "reserved table" analogy is a pathetic insult to the Constitution and the powers reserved to the States or the People.

d)  JHoward's asininely incorrect view of the Constitution has given ALL power to the federal government.  He has retained not one power for the States or the People if the federal government can just deem anything "good for the general welfare" and take it as one of their powers.

Fabulous job giving ALL powers to the Feds, lunatic......your Federal Fascistii have deemdeed it good for the general welfare of the country that YOU are rounded up by the Fascistii and summarily executed.

Doooooooooohhh! Man that was awesome! (0.00 / 0)
You guys have to check out the vid Strawberry just linked to!  You can see it on Al Gore's face ...

I'm going to say something controversial here - Al Gore

Right there you can tell by the look on his face that he isn't comfortable floating this shitty excuse.

Obama arrived in Denver at 2:00 p.m. today, just a few hours before the debate started.  Romney did his debate prep in Denver. When you go to 5,000 feet and you only have a few hours to adjust - I don't know, maybe ...."

"I don't Know"? "Maybe"? What is he talking about?  30 seconds ago it sounded like he had a theory why Obama got his ass kicked and he ends it with 'I don't know ... I'm an idiot.'

My favorite part was when the chick says "mmmmmmm that's interesting" the altitude ...

You've never heard that? (0.00 / 0)
Everytime the Pats go to Denver we hear about how they have to deal with the altitude and lack of oxygen. The Broncos are used to it. I bet Romney got there a few days before Obama did, and probably does blood doping, sleeps in a special pod, has nanobots reconfiguring his brain, connecting him to some neural network, etc.

[ Parent ]
Dude.... (0.00 / 0)
I was born and lived in Denver, visited many times.....and even a "peak of fitness" guy can't run for shit going into Denver.  I couldn't make it a mile without sucking wind...and I was used to running 10+ per day.

We're not talking athletics here.  People don't get stupid because they land in Denver.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
The brain is affected by lack of oxygen (0.00 / 0)
There are oxygen bars where people breathe oxygen to improve their concentration.

I wonder it Obama didn't plan it, so that he'd have a strong comeback in the next debate, rope a dope style.

[ Parent ]
Suuuuuuuuure (0.00 / 0)
it does.  That's why everyone in Denver is dumb as rocks.  They covered this Denver stupidity in my physiology classes.
Ever actually been to Denver?   Did you get stupid upon landing?

That a moron like you buys into this nonsense is telling.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

Seriously? "I bet Romney got there a few days before Obama did, and probably does blood doping, sleeps in a special pod, has nanobots reconfiguring his brain, connecting him to some neural network, etc."

You sure sound like you need some of that desperately. As for Romney, he rocked it.  Deal with it.

[ Parent ]
Those were jokes (0.00 / 0)
But if anyone were to do stuff like that, it'd be Romney.

I don't mind that Romney won the debate at all. I hope he makes Obama really worried so that he has no choice but to win all the social conservatives by coming out against Transhumanism and same-sex procreation and same-sex marriage, and let Mitt have the gay vote.

[ Parent ]
David Kravitz still hasn't weighed in on law license controversy (0.00 / 0)
Forget it dude.  David has bigger issues to worry about these days.  Like his world for instance ... IT'S FALLING DOWN ALL AROUND HIM!  PWA HA HA HAAAAAA!  PWAAAAAA! HA HA!.  David Kravitz ain't coming back fellas, he "lost it" if you know what I mean : )
