Five Things you should know today, October 18, 2012

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Thu Oct 18, 2012 at 07:49:59 AM EDT

1. David Kravitz still silent on Law License

David Kravitz is still silent on the practice of Law without a license by Elizabeth Warren.

2. Margery Eagan learns the secret that Richard Tisei is a Liberal Republican

Margery Eagan is in with breaking news in today's Boston Herald. Apparently Richard Tisei is a Republican that Moonbats could love.

Tisei, meanwhile, is the sort of moderate Republican Massachusetts loves. He may be the only GOP candidate in the entire country "who supports gay marriage and who's prochoice and who wouldn't sign the (Grover) Norquist no-tax pledge," he told me yesterday. "I have a history of being bipartisan and a problem-solver."

Tisei, 50, a longtime lawmaker, ran on Charlie Baker's ticket as lieutenant governor in 2010. "The problem in Washington right now is too many ideologues voting straight party line and as a result nothing is getting done," Tisei said.

I'd say a problem in Massachusetts right now is that every single politician who represents us in Washington is a Democrat, save Scott Brown, who is in a very tight re-election race. How about a little more diversity around here?

Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno :: Five Things you should know today, October 18, 2012
3.  Apparently the much vaunted ethics reforms passed by Democrats are a joke.

Again from the Herald we learn that the much vaunted ethics reform, touted by Democrats, is a joke.

The Bay State's ballyhooed ethics overhaul isn't passing the "smell test," according to government watchdogs, as a Herald review found a whopping two-thirds of newly promoted chief probation officers in the scandal-ravaged department have relatives on the state payroll.

All told, 81 of the 320 staffers hired or promoted in the patronage-ridden trial court in the past year have at least one relative who works for the state, as did 10 of the 15 newly promoted chief probation officers.

"Those numbers would indicate that the old adage of it's not what you know but who you know is still alive and well and operating in our one-party state," said House Minority Leader Brad Jones (R-North Reading).

4. Debate night in the Andovers

Two towns, and three big time debates last night in the Andovers.  First was the Tierney-Tisei slugfest in North Andover, then concurrently was a League of Women Voters series of debate with two main events. A debate between Jim Lyons and patronage job-seeker Barbara L'Italien and a debate between Paul Adams and Barry Finegold.  The Eagle Tribune has the story.

"My opponent as she had pointed out wants to say that she works together," he said. "And she is right. The Democrats have worked together to raise our taxes, they have worked together to cut local aid to our cities and towns and they have worked together to restrict the budget process and to close it up."

L'Italien said she hasn't been afraid to stand up against her party when she thinks they are wrong, saying Lyons "has a very narrow ideological based agenda."

Lyons said he will continue to fight to end the "tax and spend" mentality of Beacon Hill and railed at L'Italien for voting to raise the sales tax from 5 percent to 6.25 percent while in office.

After last night's performance, L'Italien will be seeking another Patronage job in the not to distant future.

Disclosure: Both Lyons and Adams are clients.

5. Obama Campaign reminds voters to bring an ID to vote in Massachusetts.

No this is not a joke, The Barack Obama campaign is reminding you to bring an ID to vote.

Vote.BarackObama.com:

If this is your first time voting in a federal election in Massachusetts you may be asked to show an ID before you can vote on Election Day. Identification may include (but is not limited to):

A current and valid Massachusetts driver's license
   Another valid photo ID
A current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or other government document that shows your current and complete name and current address.

2)  Well, d'uh.......and I'm STILL voting for him.

3)  Ayuh....double d'uh

5)  Since when does a utility bill in-hand identify you as the person you're claiming to be?  Illegals have electricity too.

Federal election requirements: (0.00 / 0)
Perhaps the big ZerO should show some ID to even be on the ballot. Wouldn't matter though. The MA members of the Electoral College will give him the win anyway.

Tisei is a fiscal conservative (0.00 / 0)
He is a social liberal, and fiscal conservative - so presumably that makes him a liberal Republican. But the fiscal conservatism is vital.

Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one's government is not necessarily to secure freedom.

Fiscal conservatives should oppose gay marriage (0.00 / 0)
Gay marriage will lead to unprecedented government interference in reproduction and huge expenses for subsidizing and researching and regulating same-sex reproduction. Tisei is a Libertarian, not a fiscal conservative. Conservatives oppose "fundamentally transforming the human condition" in ways that completely blow away all the history and tradition of life. But Libertarians believe we should not prohibit genetic engineering of designer children or making genetic offspring for same-sex couples, or changing sex and reproducing as the other sex, they have a materialist science fiction detached belief system that is fascinated with creating "better humans" and replacing the natural family and morality.

I wonder is Tierney is really fully committed to Transhumanism and Postgenderism that comes along with gay marriage, or if he really only thinks that gay couples should have the security and protections for their committed relationships and federal recognition, but not the same right to conceive offspring together that a marriage should still have. Is Tierney a Transhumanist, or is he going to be more of a fiscal conservative than the Republican?

Fiscal Conservatives should help promote the Egg and Sperm Civil Union Compromise that keeps reproduction natural, preserves equality, and stops expensive entitlements like enabling people to reproduce with either sex. That is SO STUPID! It's totally unnecessary and would be so terrible, and the benefits of prohibiting it now are HUGE.

[ Parent ]
Understand the issue (0.00 / 0)
Don't be an idiot, there are actual rights that come with marriage, or that should come with marriage anyway, and saying that people have a right to conceive offspring with someone of the same sex, or change sex and reproduce as the other sex, is not a prudent or conservative position, neither fiscal or social.

Lenny show me that you understand the issue. Lol doesn't cut it, don't be a fool with our future.

[ Parent ]
ok (5.00 / 1)
Serious question.  Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that there are alternative universes where with different planet earths taking an infinite number of different paths from this moment in time forward.  In your estimation, what is the ratio of universes where the course is such that ssm becomes legalized and then it leads to the same-sex procreating transhumanist distopia of your fears to universes that take a different course?

[ Parent ]
All of them? (0.00 / 0)
I don't see how any of the Earths with SSM could avoid a Transhuman dystopia, given a long enough time to work on it before society craps out completely and can't afford to spend any money or energy on labs.

But let's say some of the Earths with SSM decide to take a prudent step of enacting an Egg and Sperm law to ward off the Transhumanism and prohibit same-sex couples from conceiving offspring. First of all, the SSM activists won't accept that law because they'll see it as denying them equal rights, they'll claim that marriage means they have a right to conceive offspring together, but lets say the rest of the country grows some balls and says tough luck, same-sex conception is unsafe, just be happy you are married, and use donor gametes. Well, that would mean that society no longer considers marriage as approval to conceive offspring with their own genes, and could start to force other couples to use donor gametes. That's dystopian, even if not Transhuman.

[ Parent ]
disappointing (0.00 / 0)
It's two steps, John.  As you are clearly obsessed with this matter, one would think you would have at least thought it through.  First the alternative universe has to actually fully enact ssm, then, from that subset, it has to lead through ssm (not some other way) to your transhumanistic nighmarescape.  Anyway, that you put the answer at 100% for those that do reach the second step proves you are out of your gourd and furthermore have no real imagination (one bizarre fetish/fantasy does not an imagination make).

The real answer is probably more like one in a zillion, and even then the real $$ cost is unclear- which is why for fiscal conservatives to use their finite influence and resources to take on fighting this unlikely and crazy scenario would be, as you say, "SO STUPID."

[ Parent ]
Are you crazy? (0.00 / 0)
I won't cost anything to prohibit same-sex conception!

[ Parent ]
It won't even use up any influence or resources (0.00 / 0)
I agree it's easier to go along with the flow on ssm and say we don't care about it, fine go ahead, but it divides conservatives and uses just as much influence and resources fighting amongst ourselves.

And I admit I can't follow your two step thing. What do you mean it has to lead "through ssm" to genetic engineering of people?

[ Parent ]
meaning (0.00 / 0)
Genetic engineering of the type you fear takes place in those universe, but among the cause(s) of it taking place is not marriage- same-sex or otherwise.  Obviously, there would be universes with no ssm and with genetic engineering.

[ Parent ]
I thought we were only talking about universes with ssm (0.00 / 0)
Yes, there could be earths that reject same-sex marriage but nevertheless practice genetic engineering, those are apparently the worlds that Romney and Maggie Gallagher envision. I thought your question was what percentage of worlds that allow SSM would go on to allow same-sex conception and genetic engineering. And I did consider the scenario where same-sex procreation is prohibited even though ssm is allowed, I just think that's unlikely, as is the opposite. I think we will probably have both or neither.

[ Parent ]
at least (0.00 / 0)
You acknowledge there could be genetic engineering in a world without gay marriage, so therefore the two are not necessarily connected.  That's a start on the path (back?) to the reality.  Follow that path, John Howard, follow that path!

[ Parent ]
Can't be on (0.00 / 0)
a path to reality when SSM is the cause of everything.

Terrorism would end if only we got rid of SSM.
SSM can ONLY lead to SSC which will end the world.

....and sex outside of marriage is to be fined and otherwise controlled.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
Yeah, I don't see how terrorism can end if we keep SSM (0.00 / 0)
SSC might never be possible, but SSM certainly calls for it and makes a demand for it and a right for it.

I think ending SSM in the USA is essential to ending terrorism against the USA. And since we should end SSM anyhow to preserve equality and human dignity, it seems rather outlandish to choose SSM over the chance to end terrorism against Americans.

[ Parent ]
Why not have people pay the cost (0.00 / 0)
There is already a $30 fine for fornication, I just think we should pay it on our tax forms, like we do the fine for not having health insurance. Why make people that don't have sex outside of marriage pay for all the STDs and pregnancies and abortions caused by the people that do have sex outside of marriage? It'd collect some revenue, and remind people that they can and should say no to sex before marriage.

[ Parent ]
Who said they were necessarily connected? (0.00 / 0)
There are all sorts of combinations that could happen, but some of them are better than others. The best combination is preserving natural reproduction with a ban on creating people that are not the union of a man and a woman, preserving everyone's right to marry and procreate offspring with their own genes, and affirming that marriage approves and allows the couple to have sex and procreate offspring together.

Bad combinations would be allowing same-sex procreation but prohibiting SSM (Romney and NOM's position) because it sends the message that it doesn't matter if couples get married when they have kids together, and prohibiting same-sex procreation but allowing SSM, because it strips procreation rights from marriage.

I never said gays or gay marriage was the cause of genetic engineering or transhumanism. I think gay people and people with GID are being used as pawns by Transhumanists to justify making people that are not the natural union of a man and a woman, and to achieve eugenic goals by normalizing shopping for better sperm and eggs and separating procreation rights from marriage.

[ Parent ]
Do you see (0.00 / 0)
what you're dealing with?

Terrorism by Muslims exists because of same-sex marriage and will exist until same-sex marriage is no longer.

The sheer lunacy...

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

[ Parent ]
Just one reason (0.00 / 0)
I know there are other reasons, obviously there has been terrorism and jihad since before gay marriage, but you got to admit it went up as gay marriage advanced.  And gay marriage is symbolic, it confirms their views that the US is the Great Satan, and if we were to end same-sex marriage it would relieve tensions, while pouring on more gay marriage will just inflame tensions more.

It's lunacy to try to impose libertarian transhumanism on the whole world. I think there are just a few hundred libertarian transhumanists sitting all day at their keyboards, inciting us to overthrow Islam, but they have outsized influence due to having a monopoly on the blogs and are using threats of bigotry to intimidate everyone who questions them.

[ Parent ]
And it's not about the future its about right now (0.00 / 0)
Also, you seem to think my proposal is just to prevent a transhumanist dystopia in the future. No, it is mainly to resolve the marriage debate right now, and the Egg and Sperm law is just the catalyst that brings about immediate benefits. The current situation sucks, and is rapidly getting worse. Not only do same-sex couples have limited patchy state recognition and no federal recognition, but we are wasting lots of money and resources and confusing kids about their future and I think making everyone depressed and despondent by having their marriages equated to same-sex couples. I think respecting marriage and affirming everyone's equal right to marry and conceive offspring, while also taking care of same-sex couples, will cheer up lots of despondent men and get the economy moving again.

The last thing we should do is stick with this status quo of years going by as we are divided by the never ending marriage debate. Do you really want to endure the fight for an FMA? Let's avoid that, it is killing us.

[ Parent ]
fraud (5.00 / 1)
Man, you are such a fraud...now you're trying to back away even from the lame justification you used to hijack this thread.  This is was your premise for why fiscal conservatives should join your bandwagon of insanity:

"Gay marriage will lead to...huge expenses for subsidizing and researching and regulating same-sex reproduction."

"Will lead to" = the future!

[ Parent ]
And it will lead to huge expenses for research (0.00 / 0)
Fiscal conservatives should want to preserve marriage and reject equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. I'm not backing away from that, it's a virtual lock that gay marriage means subsidizing same-sex conception and all the research and regulation it will involve, and all the legal battles that make lawyers rich at taxpayer expense. It means continuing to waste money on the marriage debate and distracting us from real work and making people depressed about the future and the present too.

The only way to stop all that waste of money is to enact an egg and sperm law, the Bio-Conservative position. That's redundant, it's simply the conservative position. Only Libertarian Transhumanists oppose an egg and sperm law. And if we enact that egg and sperm law, and we still have SSM, then that also is dystopian and expensive, because it means we will have stripped conception rights from marriage and invited the government to evaluate the safety and risks of everyone's reproduction instead of affirming that every marriage has a right to use their own genes.

MEANT to be overly mocking and offensive.  This loon has been here trashing the joint for years....trashing the Constitution for years, being ignorant on court rulings, ignoring EVERY word others say--replacing them with his brain farts and ignoring all aspects of law and governance.  I no longer have the inclination to explain YET AGAIN to this loon....ANYTHING having to do with his obsession.  He's purely uneducable.

Doesn't matter what you say...he'll lie about your words as he's done right here.

If you think it should be legal you are a transhumanist (0.00 / 0)
The bioconservative position is that Congress should pass an Egg and Sperm law to keep reproduction natural, between a man and a woman. There is no middle ground, no third way, either it's legal or it's prohibited. Just regulating it is called "Democratic Transhumanism", not "Democratic Bioconservatism."

And the 2nd thing was Eagan's column on his support for gay marriage. So i explained why supporting gay marriage is not fiscally conservative, it will require huge investments etc. Then Lenny wanted to go on some tangent about possible futures, and you made unresponsive comments that were off topic and ad hominem. It would be nice if you participated in good faith.
