Obama Lied - Twinkie Died

by: Vote3rdpartynow

Fri Nov 16, 2012 at 11:04:13 AM EST

I wanted to share a poem with you borrowed from this website here and authored by GrandPa Tucker.  I guess we can say that America voted for a Ding Dong and it killed the Twinkie.

The maker of America's most loved snack food is going out of business.  Read it here and then enjoy the poem.

Ode to a Twinkie

Oh, Twinkie with your golden hue,
You have delicious goop in you.
There you are! Were you waiting long,
Between Sno-balls and stale Ding Dong?

My friends all think I'm kinda kinky
Cause my role model is a twinkie.
But they don't know what we've been through.
Dear Twinkie, I can count on you.

I tell my troubles as I bite.
You never tell me, "That's not right."
You listen to each foolish fear,
Then slowly, deliciously disappear.

I hold you close when we're alone
And think the thoughts that are my own.
Then turn to you, my dear sweet yummie.
You clear my mind, tickle my tummie.

Your outside is a little plain,
But inside you are "mellow lane."
I like you better than these folks,
Who look at me and then make jokes.

People should be more like you.
You don't judge the things folks do.
Inside is where your beauty lies.
Within the plain, there's sweet surprise.

18,000 plus to lose jobs in business closure (0.00 / 0)
From this news story here:

"We deeply regret the necessity of today's decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike," said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer. "Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders."

Of course there are thousands of others whose income relied heavily on the sale and distribution of these foods.  Many of them will also lose their jobs.

As we speak Ebay now has 12 pages of Twinkie related product and ads for boxes of Twinkies are now showing on Craigslist for $20 per box.

It seems the currency of the Obama administraion is not gold, but gold-filled cupcakes...

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

It took you 6 days to fall off the wagon... (0.00 / 0)
On Nov 10th you wrote,

"Let's learn how to talk to people about issues that are fundamental to Republicans.  Nobody likes taxes - so why can't we talk about them?  Nobody likes irresponsible government spending - so why can't we talk about it?  Let's move away from 'Liawatha' nonissues and start talking about real issues.  Note: I know I am among the worst of those people who talk about 'Liawatha' issues, but no more.  From now on I will only write about real issues and how they affect people like you and me"

You of course will claim that you're concerned for all the workers who lost their jobs.  But you emphasize the superficial and lead with mean-spiritedness...calling the President of the United States a "Ding Dong".

Of course what I get a belly laugh about is your plea to me to stop being mean to you and to take my marbles and go away.  Obviously you the type that loves to dish out your own version of meanness and than protest that your virgin ears are being soiled by the truth I speak.

The loss of 18,000 jobs is not a real issue? (0.00 / 0)
I would say the thousands of union workers among the 18,000 that lost their jobs would call this a very real issue. And if calling the President a 'Ding Dong' when writing about the famed Twinkie strikes you as anything other than an attempt at humor then you are truly a stick in the mud....

But lastly Simple, how can we miss you if you refuse to go away?  And don't 'belly laugh' too hard or you may wake up the rest of your family that doesn't live in the basement....

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

"It took you 6 days to fall off the wagon..." Simple J Malarkey (0.00 / 0)
I seem to remember YOU Simple J Malarkey making a little wager and backing out on your word too.  Why don't you tell all these nice people how long it took you to fall of the wagon?

No way. (0.00 / 0)
Their business is to sell twinkies to the fattest nation on earth in the midst of an obesity epidemic.  They went bankrupt!?!?! Not saying the union didn't play a role, but there must be a lot of blame to go around.

There is someone else to blame for Twinkie's demise - Congress! (0.00 / 0)
Read this article here.

Yet as the political recriminations echo amid news of 18,500 lost jobs in an already sluggish economy, some economists suggest that Americans shift their blame from Big Labor to the role Congress might have played in writing the Twinkies' obituary.

Since 1934, Congress has supported tariffs that benefit primarily a few handful of powerful Florida families while forcing US confectioners to pay nearly twice the global market price for sugar.

"These large sugar growers ... are a notoriously powerful lobbying interest in Washington," writes Chris Edwards of the Cato Institute in a 2007 report. "Federal supply restrictions have given them monopoly power, and they protect that power by becoming important supporters of presidents, governors, and many members of Congress."

Such power has been good for business in the important swing state of Florida, but it has punished manufacturers who rely on sugar in other parts of the United States, the Commerce Department said in a 2006 report on the impact of sugar prices.

So there is another large part of this puzzle.  Congress allowed a powerful lobby to seize control of an agricultural resource and abuse it so that it favors a single entity - in this case the state of Florida.

Here is a good history of the legislation. It seems to boil down to a simple problem - in 1934 Cuba was a huge supplier of sugar to the USA.  So large that it could control prices for what little sugar was used back then.  So legislation was passed to apply a tariff and control prices in order to protect the 8 or so large Florida sugar growers.  Fast forward 70 to 80 years and the legislation has not changed, but the USA uses about a hundred times as much sugar and the tariff still has a competitive disadvantage for anyone outside Florida.

So while Congress dithers the sugar industry is killing businsses and jobs.  Maybe when they are finished trying to find out who Petraeus is sleeping with they can get back to their real job or just get the hell out of the way...

And for the Moonbats that will blame greedy highpriced management... (0.00 / 0)
I would direct them to here where they can see that the unions had a part ownership of the company and a large part was also owned by.....wait for it.....here it comes.....GE!  Yup, the same GE run by Jeffrey Imelt.  Ya know, Obama's BFF.

And the highpriced executives, well, the top 4 Execs had their salaries cut to $1 per year at the beginning of the year by a bankruptcy Judge.

So it boils down to this - the execs take a haircut on their salary to $1 per year.  The stock they owned dropped from $34 per share to $2 per share.  The execs forwarned the unions in May 2012 that a strike could, and likely would, kill the company, and guess what happens?  Yup, the unions decide to strike.  Even the other unions that were involved in this company asked the Bakery, Confectionary, Tabacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union not to strike because of the company's delicate financial situation.

They strike - the company closes and Moonbats will not understand how it happened.  Intead they will listen to mainstream media types that will argue how this is exactly why we need unions.  Go figure?
