Dean Cavaretta: It is Time for a New Mass Playbook

by: DeanCavaretta

24 months ago, some of us involved in senior positions on the various 2010 statewide campaigns launched our website: www.NewMassPlaybook.com

Our collaboration was a sincere attempt at self-examination and determination to try and run MA Republican campaigns differently and more effectively, after all the votes were cast in the Gubernatorial Election Cycle.

Now in 2012, maybe we needed to lose (again) badly to have a real sense of urgency? Only this time, we stand on the brink of political irrelevancy. So, the time has come for this long overdue debate on how best to reform the Massachusetts GOP and its operations.

Our view is, we all need to be in this together.

Congratulations on running for GOP Chair... (0.00 / 2)
...I expect you to do much better that the 30 point lose you experienced against Jamie Eldridge.

You're a real piece of work SJM, a real "big" man. Yes Dean (5.00 / 2)
lost but I think it was one of his first efforts at public office. He's got a good future and is a very articulate candidate. Of course Jamie the Moonbat had all the apparatus behind him in one of the most liberal districts in the state. Love those unions backing neo-socialist Eldridge. So STFU creep.

Not a good showing... (0.00 / 0)
Middlesex and Worcester
Warren 49% - Brown 51%
Obama 57% - Romney 41%
Eldridge 65% - Cavaretta 35%

He ran behind Brown by 16% and behind Romney by 6%. I like Dean, but he's probably not the best guy to lead the MassGOP.

The race is fair game (0.00 / 0)
I like Dean also. His hopeless candidacy for Senate is a great example of what ails the party. And he should be asked about the race he ran. (If you are running for MassGOP chair, all your previous Republican activity is absolutely fair game.)

But, while I wouldn't be such a jerk about it (as Mr. Malarkey was) it is legit to ask Dean why he lost so badly. If he has this "new playbook" approach that will change the game for Republicans, why didn't those ideas help him? He will say that he had no money. But why couldn't he raise any? He might say that he had a well-funded, well-liked incumbent in a presidential election turnout. Well, then why run at all? Would he, as MassGOP chair, run hopeless races? For what purpose?
