Massachusetts Legislators get pay cut - again!

From patch.com:

Massachusetts lawmakers will get a pay cut this year, in accordance with a state law that links legislators' salaries to the state's median household income.

The pay cut amounts to about $1,000 annually from legislators' current base pay of $61,132, the Associated Press reported.

The governor himself will be impacted by the pay cut, as will the lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, state auditor and state senators and representatives.

Officials' salaries also dropped in 2011, by 0.5 percent, according to the AP report.

So think about this - the state has better than national average employment numbers, but still losing median household income, and higher than national average cost of living.  That generally results from the creation of low wage jobs and an evacuation of better jobs.

I would think that another year or two of this kind of economy and the Legislators would rethink some of their anti-business policies, but most of them work as Defense Attorneys on the side, which helps...

Either way - its nice to know some of the bastards got hit with a pay cut....Happy New Year to me....!!
