I also believe that RMG has great potential but that it far too often gets dragged down by petty personal squabbles, in addition to the annoying trolls, and the same tired old agendas.
I admit to being as guilty as anyone and that is in part why, like a near occasion of sin, I've attempted to scale back. It's not quite a Catholic during Lent but there's only so many times that even I can bear to read the exact same argument and fight the same battle when, in truth, I have no interest in battling but rather amicably exchanging a sincere difference of opinion and having an honest debate and discussion.
Mea culpa, I'm not innocent from such things but it's precisely why I feel the need to refrain more often than not as I don't want to be guilty of that which I dislike. |
Ultimately, I come back to RMG - and participate probably far more than is healthy - as I do legitimately enjoy being a part of the open dialogue, healthy discussion, and transparent accessibility. Places like RMG serve a good purpose and fulfill a informational exchange need. As I've written recently, I got involved with the MassGOP largely due to its old listserv and it was probably discontinued largely for much of the gripes I've listed here. As such, while I occasionally surface for a gasp of air, it's also why I find myself diving back down, even if perhaps a bit too deep.
I guess all I can conclude is that while RMG isn't perfect, and it can't be due to the imperfection of human nature, it's the best damn thing we currently have. I just hope that for one reason or another that it doesn't go the way of the extinct MassGOP listserv.
On the blog I would post a video of a recent speech or public appearance of an elected official and analyze the facial expressions and nonverbal signals to truly determine what they wanted to say or how they felt.
There is a true science to this stuff and though it is not absolute science, it is very good at determining how people truly think.
Here is an example:
In the video above (which is no longer any kind of mystery as we know he was lying) I would suggest that the finger waving is an obvious sign of someone trying to impress upon others a false standard. At the same time he speaks in single word increments - I - did - not - have - sex - with - that - woman - Miss - Lewinski. It is all very contrived.
I am not any kind of an expert on this stuff, but I find it fascinating and there is much you can learn about it on the Internet.
Remember this video?
What are your thoughts? We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.
