How Does One Spell Campaign Implosion? F E R R O

by: DeanCavaretta

Wed Jan 30, 2013 at 18:16:36 PM EST

So Rick Green has only been a Registered Republican since 2011 (Source: Town of Pepperell residence listing). And Kirsten Hughes registered to vote as a Republican in Quincy in 1998 at the age of 22 (Source: Hughes Quincy voter registration card).

Yet, Paul Ferro and Matt Elder in their zeal for Mr. Green, are going to lecture the Quincy City Councilor and all of her supporters on voting, website claims and activist credentials?

Ok, fine, but their half-truths and lame tactics are moves NOT from the NewMassPlaybook, but a page right out of the John Walsh Playbook.

Item: Voting to adjust the annual property tax levy (within the guidelines of Proposition 2.5), especially when Elder and the Marlborough City Council passed a similar measure, along with countless other localities across our fiscally strapped Commonwealth does not constitute "massive tax increases" as Mr. Elder would like RMG readers to believe.

Actually, Ms. Hughes has never supported a tax override while on the City Council.

Item: Calling out Ms. Hughes for voting elsewhere or not voting at other times in the decade preceding our current one when (R) newcomer Green has zero political, fundraising or volunteer experience in the same time period proves what exactly?

Read State Committeewoman Elizabeth Mahoney's Voting Analysis of our two candidates here: http://tinyurl.com/b4tuzzt

Lastly, this has been a hotly contested campaign. If true, I applaud Rick Green for just taking down the Ferro Endorsement from his campaign website. I thought Steve Grossman conspiring with the Boston Globe in their last minute 2010 attack on Candidate for Treasurer Karyn Polito and the Red Sox License Plate Story was the lowest blow I've seen in American politics.

This week's manufactured attacks and so-called 'opposition research' by a Chairman of one of my Republican City Committees is a close second.

Dean Cavaretta, 2012 (R) Candidate for State Senate

Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Harvard, Hudson, Littleton, Maynard, Precinct 3 of Northborough, Shirley, Southborough, Stow, Precincts 2 and 3 of Sudbury, Westborough, MARLBOROUGH and Devens.

Dean, grow up. When you were running for chair (or was it co chair? Or ED?) I never once publically said "Dean, why should the MassGOP have as its leader a "candidate" who has run for office 4 or 5 times, losing all 4 or 5, and most recently run one of the most incoherent campaigns in political history"

Until you:
1) win an election yourself
2) are a campaign manager or paid staffer of a winning election
3) either/or

You have no right telling anyone how to do anything involving politics.

(I don't expect a response. You've shown you love to post something and run away. Come talk to me at the election tomorrow if you'd like)

When you can't argue the facts, use a straw man (0.00 / 0)
You can not refute the substance of what Dean says (as I've read else where, you voted the same way you accuse Hughes voting), instead you basically call him stupid and you won't listen to stupid people.  Wow, that shows real intellectual depth.

not the same (0.00 / 0)
I voted for the tax split (The Council doesn't set the split, we just approve it) and then vote against the budget due to many things in it I can't support. Kirsten voted for the split than voted for the budget, which included tax and spending increases.

You voted for it until you voted against it... (0.00 / 0)

no (0.00 / 0)
it's 2 seperate votes about 6 months apart. If I vote for the split am I doing it because:

-I want to raise taxes on businesses
or
-I want to raise taxes on residents

The answer is neither, so I purpose cuts of the budget, and if I don't like the budget than I vote against it.

But nice try.

Simple, for you, I kept it simple! (0.00 / 0)
I gave one single topic, with public records, to show why I think Dean is not the top of the class.  Starting with, he can't apparently do math.

Ferro disappears from Rick Rappaport Green.com (0.00 / 0)
What happened?

Elder's and Ferro's brilliant hit pieces not work out as planned? How many other people will disappear from Rick Rappaport Green.com tonight?

I had this lengthy Reply all done up.... (0.00 / 0)
Listing all the Elections Dean has lost.  Badly (Example: 2012 State Senate race, Spent $36,000, got 7% LESS than 2010 Nominee who spent $3,000!). Or maybe listing a library of quotes from "his" RTC members mocking Dean.  Heck, I could just pull up some of the things he wrote about himself (garnering President Bill Clinton's phantom endorsement is a personal favorite).

But that's a waste of time. To many topics.  I'll give you one category.  Campaign Finance Reports.

That will let me illustrate to the readers what a flippin' buffoon Dean Cavaretta is!  All Hyperlinks are to OCPF reports as filed.

Cavaretta for State Senate original, Pre-Primary Report for 2012. Ending Balance?  ($1,280.23)

That's NEGATIVE, as in he listed himself as having a negative bank account balance.

"But, Paul," you may ask  "you can't HAVE a negative campaign balance!  You can have cash-on-hand, and then outstanding obligations!  But your bank account isn't 'negative!""

You would be right!  A person much, much smarter than Dean explained this to him (hint:  it was me).  So he submitted an "amended" report.

Yeah!  Dean can learn!  Oh, wait.  Spoke to soon.

Advance a mere two months later.  Time for Dean's Pre-election report. Is it possible?  Could he be stupid enough to submit his campaign finance report with an incorrect negative balance again?

Mind you, this is a man who was a "senior staffer" on not one, but TWO state-wide campaigns.  A man who has run multiple times for various state and local offices.  Surely, he wouldn't fill it out wrong!?!?

You would be incorrect.  New balance? ($67.29)

Yup, he had to fix it.  Again.

But wait!  It's not over!  He Screwed it up.  Again! The new "fixed" balance? ($396.77)!

So he had to file a third version.

Two campaign Finance Reports, three incorrectly filed out reports.  All with negative balances.  He had to file five different versions.  For two reports.

That's just one category.  Perhaps now the reader can understand Matt and my contempt for Dean.

LOL - In a way it's funny that a guy who can't handle simple math (0.00 / 0)

Is rooting for a candidate that can't spell => http://bluemassgroup.com/2013/01/mass-gop-chairman-election-enthusiasim-vs-union-thugs/

Using a straw man to change the subject... (0.00 / 0)
Paul, write a separate dairy outlining your opinion regarding Dean's incompetence. Here Dean has placed the last minute mud-slinging surrounding the GOP chair race squarely at your feet (a point I wholeheartedly endorsed).  Yet you do not address Dean's assertions.  Instead you attack him.  Obviously you attract him for two interrelated issues.  First Dean is right and secondly, you have no defense so you go on the offense and attack his character.

Given your past history, it is no surprise that you attack his character, than do an honest assessment of your actions.

I can think of one single vote where Councilor Matt Elder Voted... (0.00 / 0)
...to cut city spending by $2,000,000, saving every residential and commercial property taxpayer in Marlborough.  That's what Republican City Councilors, like Matt Elder, can do to keep taxes down.

I spent hours looking for a vote where Kirten Hughes voted to cut the Quincy Mayor's Proposed Budget.  She's had one chance.  She didn't.

That, as you know, is how a local Republican elected officials save the taxpayer money.  Not Prop. 2.5, or the "tax rate" which no City Council "sets".  It's about not spending, then not taxing.

Not "beacon Hill Democrats" but Local Republican Leaders LEADING on the local level with a less-spending = Lower taxes message.

At least you would know that.  If you had every been chosen by your fellow citizens to represent them.

Something Matt Elder, and I have been.  Multiple times.
