Who's up for a "Draft William F. Weld for U.S. Senate" effort?

by: Karl Marx

Fri Feb 01, 2013 at 15:56:08 PM EST

Bill Weld! A lonely, dispirited, broken MA GOP turns to you! How about it?

Bring back the (mostly) good old days of surpluses, welfare reform and a solid MA economy.  The 1990s rocked in MA.

This race will get lots of national attention. (0.00 / 0)
Why not run a candidate who represents Americans who have lost confidence in Obama?

Just one of the many examples of... (4.00 / 1)
...conservatives who just don't get it.  You write, "Why not run a candidate who represents Americans who have lost confidence in Obama?"

If you think about that for 1 minute, it shows how out of step with reality you are.  Just 3 months ago Obama won a national election by 3 million votes and his public approval rating has increased since then.  This popularity is only magnified in Massachusetts.  Yet you want to make the race a referendum on the President?  Please do.

Scott Brown did it. (0.00 / 0)
It's not easy, but it's not impossible either.

The fact that Obama is riding high right now is all the more reason to go for it.

Different world than Jan. 2010... (4.00 / 1)
...teaparty rage was in full bloom...none of that today.

[ Parent ]
The opposition is still there, (0.00 / 0)
particularly among the true believers in the tea party.

[ Parent ]
True believers only... (0.00 / 0)
...do not win elections.  You ned 50% plus 1.  In Jan '10, there were way more than the true believers.

[ Parent ]
I agree. (0.00 / 0)
That's the idea behind running someone who actually endorsed Obama in 2008.  But you seemed to credit "teaparty rage" with Scott Brown's victory -- that's what I was responding to.

Even (0.00 / 0)
I can't support him, and he's family.

G.O.P. Growth. Opportunity. Prosperity. For all Americans.

Could Weld run? One report is that the former governor turned former New Yorker had to take a No New Politics pledge as a precondition of his hiring at Mintz Levin and ML Strategies, where old friends Steve Tocco and Bob Popeo work.

"It never came up," he asserts.

Really?  It never came up?

Yeah, just what the Senate needs, (0.00 / 0)
...another Angus Effing King.

No way (0.00 / 0)
He endorsed Obama over a true American hero.  End of discussion.

End of the GOP (0.00 / 0)
A Weld candidacy for any statewide office would cause me to change my registration.

Eww
