Hughes: Markey shows "disgusting" judgement in mysoginistic fundraiser host Eliott Spitzer

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Tue Feb 19, 2013 at 17:11:10 PM EST

Newly minted MassGOP Chairman Kirsten Hughes today called on Ed Markey to cancel his upcoming fundraiser in the District of Columbia, hosted by Client Number Nine Eliott Spitzer.  The press release follows.

Today, MassGOP Chairman, Kirsten Hughes called on Congressman Ed Markey to cancel his planned fundraiser with Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer, best known for his long time exploitation of women which led to his resignation, is reportedly teaming up with Markey for a D.C. fundraiser.

"You are judged by the company you keep and it's disgusting for Congressman Markey to rub elbows with a man best known for his solicitation of prostitutes," said Kirsten Hughes, MassGOP Chairman. "Instead of lining his campaign coffers with donations from the disgraced Eliot Spitzer, Markey should immediately cancel the fundraiser and denounce Spitzer's abhorrent and unacceptable behavior.  Anything short of a public condemnation and cancellation would send the wrong message to women everywhere."

I must have missed the Sen. Vitter press release... (1.67 / 3)

It's okay that he paid for sex with prostitutes, right Simple? (0.00 / 0)
because he is a Democrat....!

LOL - Like many of your arguments you are indeed falling apart dude. (0.00 / 0)
On one hand you give people like Shaun Toohey shit for being a male stripper => http://www.redmassgroup.com/di...

MA GOP Candidate: Male Stripper & Tax Delinquent (+)
by: Simple J. Malarkey

The MassGOP has a long history of finding some very flawed candidates, know Shaun Toohey gives a new meaning to the term: Two-fer  - Simple J Malarkey

But on the other hand you give Elliot Spitzer a pass ... So yeah dude you're all over the place.  You clearly lost all sense of reality.

Malarky is just the typical liberal hypocrite.  Double standards, don't you know?

Believe it or not, (0.00 / 0)
I'm 100% with you on Toohey, but you are still using a double standard in this instance.  We are so much better off with Ives who appears to be willing to see beyond party lines then a hack wannabe.

a GOP candidate for the vacated seat held by former Senator Kerry attending a fund raiser held by Senator Vitter?

No?

I'm sure you had something...dishonorable liar that you are.

War on Women (5.00 / 1)
The affects of prositution are many and almost 100% negative.  From physical abuse, emotional torment and psychological distress to drug and alcohol abuse, unstable home and personal relationships and a plethora of health issues prostitution is an assault on women.  If Markey is true in his support of women and women's issues having an acknowledged user of prostitutes as a host of his fundraiser is a slap in the face of women and he should be ashamed and women pissed.

Tread lightly here, Rob (5.00 / 1)
After all, you used Red Mass Group to raise money for former state representative Steven Levy.  And Steven Levy has been arrested for domestic assault (Metrowest Daily News, 10/30/03, "Candidate's domestic violence charge uncovered" By Kristen Bradley and Jennifer Kavanaugh).  So, since you and Red mass Group raise money for former domestic abusers like Steve Levy, should all Republicans refuse to let you and rmg raise money for them?  Should you be banned from raising money for Republicans, Rob?  What does Kirsten Hughes think about that?  Be care ful around slippery slopes.  You dont want to slip and we don't want you to get in trouble.

domestic violence CHARGE (4.80 / 5)
Speaking of slippery slopes, be very careful when using Domestic Violence, particularly charges versus convictions to judge the character of someone.  Surely you know Domestic Abuse is one of the most commonly used FALSE charges used in contentious divorces or custody disputes?  Real victims are very real, but rarely heard from.  The amount of false allegations, on the other hand, is of epic proportions, and drives more Federal funds to the state for everyone they can put into the system.  Anyone can charge anyone for anything, but convictions are another matter.  If you offer proof of such, it might warrant further discussion though the state of our courts and justice system have been reduced to the point that justification for a restraining order is if someone claims to be put "in fear" of the other person, whether the accused has done something or not, and violating an RO is usually guaranteed as soon as you show up. Thus the Domestic Violence charge and.or conviction.

So it might warrant further discussion, but only upon further information, but even then, it is a real poor analogy to use against RMG for supporting a candidate, or raising funds to compare to an Attorney General who was outright breaking the very laws, (himself) that he prosecuted others for.  I suggest you slippery slope suggestion and comparison was a BIG FAIL.

Why should any Massachusetts Democrat denounce Markey? (0.00 / 0)
None of them were willing to denounce Ted Kennedy, and he killed a woman while driving drunk off a bridge!!  Oh yeah, and he and Senator Chris Dodd sexually molested a waitress at a NY restaurant too!  Ya know, they were protecting her from the Republican 'war on women'...

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

And none of them denouce Gerry Studds either.... (5.00 / 1)
Studds didn't kill anyone, he just raped a boy at a resort location while being a sitting US Congressman....From Massachusetts no doubt.....

We in Massachusetts hate child rapists, unless they are Democrats and running for Congress.....  Then we elect them...

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

I guess at the end of the day there is no monopoly on bad behavior as we have seen it from both camps. (0.00 / 0)
Of course it's easy to say that as a Republican because we have Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd as trump cards . . .

Hey, Rob, have you forgotten how much you like Newt? (0.00 / 0)
Have you forgotten Rob's endorsement of Newt Gingrich for President?   Newt has been married three times.   Each of his first two marriages ended when he had an affair with a younger woman.   In one case, his wife was ill when he had the affair.

So, if your buddy, Newt Gingrich, is good enough for Rob Eno's endorsement to be our President, what's the big deal about Ed Markey's fundraiser?

Well of course, Spitzer broke the law and Newt didn't ... but not bad for a bad analogy BlueWatch : ) (5.00 / 1)

How does what Spitzer did equal hatred of women?

"Misogynistic" => reflecting or exhibiting hatred, dislike, mistrust, or mistreatment of women. http://dictionary.reference.co...

I know the definition. I'm questioning how the word applies. (0.00 / 0)
Are we saying that Spitzer is a misogynist because he cheated on his wife or because he cheated on his wife with a prostitute?

This is amusing. (0.00 / 0)
Listen to the Dems spin away !  Let's face it, this is the kind of ham-handed, boorish antics we can expect from a guy who hasn't been in a competitive race since before Mork 'n Mindy was on the air. Who knows, maybe next week Markey will announce that he's going to auction off Jesse Jackson Jr's memorabilia collection.

BTW did Fast Eddie ever fix that thing with his driver's license?

No shame (0.00 / 0)
"Fast" Eddie Markey (D- DC) is asking for help from a man who resigned in disgrace over his involvement in a prostitution ring.  A former aggressive prosecutor who himself broke the law.

For all the moral relativism spewed by the left around this event, can anyone really see a Republican candidate for Senate inviting David Vitter to hold an event?

Scott Brown denounced Todd Akin when Akin made his undeducated and offensive comments about rape victims.

Vitter and Larry "Wide Stance" Craig blocked Mike Sullivan's nomination to be ATF director, which should be a badge of honor for Sullivan.

You can't shine a sneaker- this was a bad move by Markey. He's counting on the media to ignore it and the public not to care because he has a D after his name.

Tin-eared and tone deaf (0.00 / 0)
I believe the fact that the Fast One would schedule a fundraiser with Spitzer shows that he's totally out of touch! Frankly, if this is what we have to look forward to, this should be entertaining to say the least !

[ Parent ]
Yeah, about as entertaining as (0.00 / 0)
watching a fake Indian, (and much worse), go to the Senate on illegal and dead people's votes.  Remember, this is Mass.  They don't do entertainment.  They do the insane.

[ Parent ]
A fine line indeed ... (0.00 / 0)
I guess it depends which side of it you are on.

[ Parent ]
illegal and dead peoples' votes? (0.00 / 0)
Brown lost by 238,298 illegal and dead peoples' votes? Really?

http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele...

And of course Bill Galvin fixed the election and is going to jail anytime soon now!

Really?

I'd really like to see a functioning anf competitive Massachusetts Republican Party if for no other reason than keeping Democrats accountable to their base. But folks you can't be functioning if you believe more than a quarter million votes weren't real.

What would Rick Green have done here? (0.00 / 0)
He probably wouldn't have brought up Markey's Spitzer fundraiser at all, because libertarians think prostitution should be legal, that adults should be allowed to have consensual sex for money, government shouldn't be prying into anybody's private business, etc. So this is more than a way to win over women from Markey, it is also a subtle message to the Libertarians that their extreme positions are not going to be the GOP's positions.

I have to disagree... (0.00 / 0)
with you on this one, John. I think Rick would have been very critical of Markey on this. Spitzer is scum and anyone who associates with him is asking for trouble. Rick would not have let a chance to stick it to the Democrats pass him by.

[ Parent ]
Is that the Libertarian position now? (0.00 / 0)
Green is a Libertarian, is he not? Libertarians like Ron Paul support legalizing prostitution, drugs, gay marriage, etc, or at least letting states decide (though he wouldn't support a state deciding to limit these things, so that's a cop out). Ron Paul even said "But there are strict rules on freedom of choice of this sort, because you can't hurt other people, you can't defame other people, but yes, you have a right to do things that are very controversial. If not, you're going to end up with a government that can tell you what to eat or drink or whatever."

Did Spitzer hurt anyone? Did he defame anyone? I don't support prostitution and argue that even highly paid prostitutes are hurt and clients and society are all hurt, and I don't support adultery, but Libertarians aren't in a position to call Spitzer "scum" or defame him if they think it should be legal. Unless they think that scorn and ostracism should be the punishment for doing things they don't like but think should be legal. But that's just a cop out too, and so much worse, so hypocritical and cynical and full of malice and carelessness and self-righteousness. So if Rick Green or any Liberty kids call out Markey because of Spitzer hiring a prostitute, they'd have some explaining to do.

[ Parent ]
I am not a libertarian (0.00 / 0)
and I can't speak for Green. I'm just saying that as chair of the Mass. GOP, one of his responsibilities would be to criticize the Dems. in this state when they choose to associate with people of questionable character. Hughes did it and I credit her for doing so and Green would have done the same. The conservatives who backed Green would have given him hell if he were chair and let this go with no statement.

[ Parent ]
I think he would have let it go (0.00 / 0)
After all, wasn't the one associated with pure fiscal issues, in contrast to the moralizing and social conservative fixation on sex between consenting adults, and not talking about marriage and adultery? The Democrats and feminists and gays seem to have forgiven him, probably because he normalized adultery and it was "high class" (The New York Times really pushed the $1,000 an hour fact). I think social conservatives have forgiven him, though they don't condone adultery or de-linking marriage from the right to have sexual intercourse or procreate together, like the feminists do. They have forgiven him for Christian reasons. So that leaves a small group of outraged moralistic non-christian hypocrites.
